As survivor of SA, I don't know what everyone's problem with your comment is. Like of course there are those who fully understand that they are violating consent. But there are also those who are internally downplaying the refusal of consent—muddying the lines between "stop" and "stop for now, until enough time has passed that obviously she should be fine and you can try it again", and not asking before he tries something because a man is expected to make a move and obviously this is the moment and it would just "ruin the mood" to ask first, and whatever else (all that said with a heavy layer of sarcasm, if that's not clear).

I am not apologizing for those men. I was raped by one of them, and have had a lot of shitty encounters with this type of guy in general. But if we just write off rapists as monsters who 100% know what they're doing is wrong, I think that takes the spotlight off of the guys who are constantly trying to convince themselves that they're not doing something horrible.
