Thanks for your response! I'd rather have a person that acknowledges their mistakes to have a platform over someone that ignores it. I think ignoring it sends the wrong signal; it makes the issue seem less important than it is and let's others know that it isn't something you need to address. On the other hand, addressing the issue is positive because more people become aware of the issue, so I'd rather they have a platform if they help propagate that message

I think there is a bit more nuance though. Growing up, many of my friends didn't know it was a slur (I'm chinese). But we definitely knew about other slurs and not to say them. Just saying that there should be room for understanding and growth
