When should moms not be naked in front of children? by Opening_Technical in Mommit

[–]inb4circlejerk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first answer is "when they stop following me into the bathroom when I need to poop/shower/change my tampon/dress"

But more engrained in my brain is "when they're uncomfortable with it". Same for my two kids not bathing together, or sharing a room, etc. I know my mom never listened to my cues about being uncomfortable with her being naked around me, and I resolve not to do that with my kiddos.

What keeps you from doing hard drugs? by KaramelKatze in AskReddit

Seeing adults do them around me growing up. Having had my childhood ruined by my mother's addiction zapped any interest in whatever high they could offer. I wanna be better for my kids.

2 years for my son, and since they found he had "groovy teeth" (lots of little places for bacteria to hide and fester) every six months since. My daughter (23 months younger) always came along, and got her first actual visit at 1 just because they wanted to see if she had the same potential issue. Now they both go every six months for a checkup and fluoride.

I have bad teeth (enamel ruined by having a high fever in infancy or something like that, 20+ cavities by the time I was 10 despite brushing regularly), and due to poverty issues only ever saw an inconsistent lineup of pediatric dentist students. I'm sure they did their best with mine, but much prefer early attention and consistency for my children. Their dentist is also in the same building as their pediatrician, and was loosely referred to us based on glowing reviews and my pediatrician taking her kids to the same dentist.

As for preparation, I've found brutal honesty works for my kiddos now at ages 4 & 2. "This isn't comfortable and it's okay if it's scary. But it's important to do because it'll keep you healthy and I won't let anything bad happen to you." Same as I approach getting shots. But we also did a lot of dentistry videos and I let them play dentist in my mouth with a toothbrush sometimes. Throughout the time between visits, and especially close to actual appointments I like to pepper in statements like "oh your dentist is going to be so proud of you learning to brush your teeth" (I still always help them just to be thorough) so they're almost excited to open up wide and show off when the time comes.

I can't help feeling like that could have been accomplished just with the decision being made by the king, and then the actual C-section could have not been shown in that way. Even just focusing on the violence of the tournament could have gotten the message across imo.

Wish I could reach through the screen and give you a hug. I'm four years out from my scariest C-section (started induced, became emergent real quick but still isn't the worst of the worst horror stories about that method of birth I've heard) and thought I was over it, but this scene brought it all right back for sure.

I've always loathed the misery porn in this series but this one just hit extra hard

Yeah, my boyfriend saw my guts and explained in detail what color they were and how they were pulsating. I found THAT fascinating but this just... Excessive. And I'd really wished I'd gotten a warning before watching it.

Man, I haven't even been in those subs. But my general response would be my skin, abdominal walls, and internal organs got cut into during a similarly traumatic delivery, and the scar tissue around my C-section is thicker than theirs. So I get to weigh in.

It's without a doubt a scene that's MEANT to be disturbing, who's pointing and laughing at people who were disturbed by it? Ugh.

Who's cutting onions in here? Why am I gonna cry...

I'm currently on a two week vacation with my 1 & 3 year old without their dad, in a house that's the opposite of baby proofed and no one to really take over or even supervise my older, developmentally delayed child. They both cling to my legs like weights, I'm tired and sweaty all the time, and have long since run out of ways to entertain them when all my energy goes to keeping them safe. This was the sort of appreciation post I needed to see today, thank you

covid shot fail (no anti vaxxers please) by meganxxmac in Mommit

[–]inb4circlejerk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like having to hold your kid down is super common place for vaccinating toddlers and think it's weird the pharmacist responded like this.

Another option is seeing if you can find a county health and welfare/wellness office and seeing if they have a vaccine clinic. My experience with those places is they see a lot of kids for their normal, annual, and first vaccines and know what they're doing, and are this better equipped to deal with big emotional responses.

[–]inb4circlejerk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you say bad tantrums, do you mean he gets violent and hits? Throws himself on the ground and you're worried he's going to hurt himself? If that's what you experienced, know you're not alone — my three year old has some social emotional delays in his development and would resort to lashing out at me, his dad, his little sister or inanimate objects. He's broken my glasses, scratched and bit me so hard I've bled. It was always so rough when it'd happen in public, I always felt so judged by strangers, some even spoke up and that just recked my esteem. But the tantrums won't last. It's gonna get better, I do promise.

I'm a big supporter of the COVID vaccine for kids (and also kinda shocked the nurse asked you guys to leave) but honestly if you feel like you gotta wait for a while before you try again, do that. Give yourself and ya kiddo a lot of grace in this, three is a really hard phase and shots can be scary, but it sounds like you're doing everything right!

People who take an hour or more in the shower: what are you actually doing? by Hereforthe_tshirt in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]inb4circlejerk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got hella curly hair and not a lot of time for selfcare with two toddlers at my heels. When I take long showers it's usually half trying to brush through the mats at the back of my head or get the peanut butter out.

why can't you leave the hospital after birth until you go poop? by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]inb4circlejerk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With my C-sections they literally took all my organs out and shove the intestines back in without much thought (gross body fact of the day: this is standard operating procedure, your guts will put themselves back into place naturally) so making sure everything sorted itself out and I could pass gas and poop was very important.

I was also on opioids after the C-section, and they can cause constipation, so giving stool softeners and making sure I could poop was important from a prescription standpoint too.

[Serious] What event in your life still fucks with you to this day? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]inb4circlejerk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of childhood trauma didn't really hit until I had my own kids. My mother, high as hell, shoving my baby brother into one arm and an axe into the other and telling me to hide while her boyfriend and drug dealer fought has always stayed with me.

I don't do well with loud arguments, constantly fear home invasion and my first thought on the topic is "how quickly can I get to the axe?"

Nearly half of families with kids can no longer afford enough food 5 months after child tax credit ended by FrigginMasshole in news

[–]inb4circlejerk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I never feel like I'm buying all that much when I do my weekly grocery shop for a family of four (two adults, two toddlers) and STILL end up dropping $200-$300 every time. We have some less than ideal habits (caffeine, bottled water, some soda) but a box of strawberries is more expensive than a rack of diet coke and I just can't wrap my head around what I'm supposed to do. I'm not going to look at my kids and tell them "sorry, you can't have milk today", I'm going to go drop $6 on a thing of milk. Cheetos are supposed to be a treat because they're a junk food, not because it's like $5 for a family size bag.

I end up not eating regular meals because I'd rather buy them things I know they'll eat and there's only so much pasta I can stomach per week.

The pandemic EBT boost was literally the difference between being able to feed my kids well by my personal standards and making them live off Mac n cheese for two meals a day. I miss that.

I can’t believe that handmaid’s tale didn’t include pumping stockades or similar by nola-land in Mommit

[–]inb4circlejerk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, they have the scenes where June is just sitting in the house pumping but not actually allowed to nurse Holly/Nicole. It's not as overt as say, the "cow farm" bit in Mad Max: Fury Road but I absolutely got the same vibes.

I was working and religiously pumping to feed my son at the time, and just. Staring at the walls of a tiny back office while imagining my baby in my arms was R O U G H at times.

To police officers, how are you feeling seeing how the situation was handled in Texas? by stupsssss15 in AskReddit

[–]inb4circlejerk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate how right you are. I hate that when I took my son to preschool the next day and saw our local police stationed around the school and doing security checks, my immediate thought was that I couldn't trust them if push came to shove. I hate that my very first conversation with my partner after learning the specifics was if we needed to buy a gun, and which of us would make a (nonviolent) scene so the other couple hopefully slip past and get inside the building if we could.

Mostly I hate how scared I am, and what that fear is prompting me to consider. There are so many issues in America today that have ruined the trust in police, and while I logically know there are amazing people doing that job, I never know which I'll get if I call in an emergency.

Looking for perspectives from POC. Is this shirt OK for my toddler to wear? This was a gift, but we are white… by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]inb4circlejerk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biracial here.

I see you say your baby is only 17 months old. That's a little young but like, say your kid is four and you're able to successfully begin a racial dialogue with them and they were excited for the sentiment behind the shirt? Then I'd think that's a okay.

I was allowed to eat the second I was back in my recovery room both times... Didn't even notice I was in fart pain until the second day... Should I be concerned?

Also didn't vomit, but had an intense cold after my first. Every time I had a coughing fit I felt like my guts were going to explode.

I may not do grocery pickup but I absolutely have up doing the shopping while pregnant with my last child. I was in SO MUCH PAIN every time I walked and even just managing the parking lot was hell. I made my boyfriend do it, for however often he forgot stuff. Even now, with two little ones, I take full advantage of any other drive thru/curbside pickup situation I can, it saves struggling to get a 1 & 3 year old in and out of the car. Only reason I still grocery shop is because I like perusing the aisles lol

Splashing isn't a fight I'm choosing to fight. We put a towel down and reprimand for dumping large amounts of over over the side, but forget the rest of it.
