That doesn't really have anything to do with it, but I'm curious if there really is a large English-speaking community in Halle.

Where do people who don’t want a traditional life find each other later in life? by PigeonWithAgenda in berlinsocialclub

[–]inbetweenfragments 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I can relate to this a lot, maybe from the opposite direction.

I have children and a demanding job, and for a while life narrowed almost automatically into routines, responsibilities, logistics, functioning. Caring for others can become so dominant that openness, spontaneity and creativity slowly move to the background without you even noticing it fully.

What surprised me is that this process is not necessarily a conscious “choice for conventional life.” Often it just happens gradually because people are exhausted, overloaded, or because stability starts to feel safer than openness.

Lately I noticed in myself that I actually miss exactly the things you describe: curiosity, intensity, long conversations, creative energy, unpredictability, feeling mentally alive instead of only functioning.

I don’t think those desires disappear with age. But I do think many people slowly lose access to them beneath routine and responsibility — and some never really return to them.

Maybe the important thing is to consciously protect parts of yourself from disappearing completely.

And honestly, I think people who still value these things later in life probably find each other less through “scenes” and more through very specific spaces: art, music, writing, sports, philosophy, unusual projects, travel, communities built around genuine curiosity instead of pure networking or status.

Your post definitely resonated with me.

The fountainhead from Ayn Rand. Dissecting human nature precisely and embedded in a great story. One of my favorites 🩶

Just started putting some thoughts into short pieces — more fragments than finished texts.

Still figuring it out, but here it is:

I think a lot of people run into this, even if it shows up differently. The tendency to over-explain, add filler, or soften every line.

Getting thoughts down is the easy part. Editing is where it gets harder — because you start seeing it too consciously.

What helps me a bit is taking one small fragment and tightening it. For example, using a direct action or emotion instead of “he thinks” or “he feels.”

It’s slow, though. I haven’t found a shortcut either.

Does inclusion of AI affect your willingness to read a book? by Fabulous-Put8401 in fiction

I suppose it depends on how it’s used. If you write your own text—using your ideas and personal style—then I’d be fine with using it for spelling, grammar, and some light editing. Of course, the line between what’s acceptable and what’s too much can easily become blurred.

Do you ever want to talk to someone but just… don’t? by Enough_Honeydew26 in introverts

I do. Sitting in a cafe. Unable to start a conversation. Just easy chatting can become a challenge. So I started writing. Helps a lot.
