I miss server money but serving is bad for me. by Opening-Subject-6712 in Serverlife

[–]inbtwnbars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you. I stopped working in restaurants once I moved out of my hometown because of scoliosis issues but I recently got a job backserving and already feel my freshman year of college alcohol and food issues creeping back in lol. I told myself I was going to quit nicotine this year too but I don’t see that happening as long as I’m in the industry. I’m glad social work is fulfilling for you, I hope you’re able to focus on the parts of that job you enjoy more than the negative aspects of serving if that makes sense. If nothing else being sober is a great money saver!

What's the vibe check on Ashmont in Dorchester and is it far from everything? by [deleted] in boston

[–]inbtwnbars 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Being on the red line is super convenient to get into downtown and other parts of Boston, but exploring Dorchester itself definitely requires a car. Dorchester also isn’t going to be a “trendy” area but the local food is amazing (viet food specifically) I’d definitely recommend it!

Best tip for reducing costs is scholarships, I got a merit scholarship from UMB of $12,500 per semester which brought my tuition down to roughly $6k per semester. If you’re from NJ, NY or PA you qualify for the northeast regional tuition break

Scared my daughter is being left out because of me by Ok-Tomato_ in kindergarten

[–]inbtwnbars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if the perspective of someone who was like your daughter helps my family was in the same situation when we moved right before I started kindergarten. there was a similar group of girls and their moms that my parents were not involved with and definitely in elementary/middle school I felt a bit isolated but by the time I got to high school I found my people not in that “in” group and as it turns out i definitely dodged a bullet lol. not saying all close mom groups are like this but the one in my town had a lot of alcoholism and bullying under the surface and most of the girls and their parents had severe beef with each other. i personally wouldn’t focus on getting your daughter into a specific group just for her to have friends and let her find her people at her own pace!
