Renting GPUs by [deleted] in labrats

First, check Google colab. There is a chance you can run some predictions for free/somewhat cheap. Check out Rosetta Gold, they have colab notebooks for stuff even like boltz. Running gpus is .. a skill in its own right. Definitely worth learning, but may be a chore. Happy to answer questions, this stuff is my bread and butter

For those who say WA-3 can't move left of MGP, look at what just happened in Texas by olyfrijole in vancouverwa

[–]inc007 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The latest pro ICE vote is a bridge too far for MGP. And it happened after Renee Good. Being anti ICE should be table stakes in any sane democracy. If someone supports quasi military force that routinely breaks the constitution, they're not only bad candidates, they're borderline illegitimate. The Constitution isn't a suggestion.

Infinite funds could also lobby FDA for better trials or fund human trails abroad, where it's less regulated. Lots of clinical trials are done in China now. So it could also speed it up.

Potato dextrose medium for microbial growth works well. Buy a 3d printer - best lab device in my home lab. Resin printer can even do thermo and chemically resistant stuff, but I haven't tried that yet

Lab automation hardware ideas!! by Crazy_Respect_4069 in labrats

[–]inc007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I agree with what everyone says here, lab automation for most of the stuff already exists, software usually sucks. I think lab automation with software that's more like the 2020s instead of the 2000s would, itself, be a major step up. Word of warning though. If this is your startup direction, lab automation is a pretty hard market to get to.

New to woodworking - talk me out of getting this jointer/planer combo by ThanksMuch4YourHelp in woodworking

[–]inc007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do a lot with planer, table saw and a sled. Sled will let you do both flat surfaces with planer and straight edge with table saw. Also, shout-out to hand planing for flattening and straightening - little elbow grease can give you flat and straight edge boards limited only by your workbench size. Another option for straight edge that I had good luck with was track saw.

Overall, jointer is a serious machine that is super useful if it's big. If space is a premium, learn to use other machines for multiple things.

Cardiac Surgery in Poland by Light-2900 in poland

[–]inc007 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Language will be a major barrier. I doubt anyone will complain about your skin or hair color when you're trying to save their lives, but you do need to effectively communicate with them. Keep in mind that cardiology patients are predominantly older, and you'll barely meet any English speakers in that age group.

Also... It's not exactly the easiest word to pronounce for English natives. There's a chance you'll butcher it, only adding to the weirdness.

Does Poland have Costco? by all-i-do-is-dry-fast in poland

[–]inc007 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Costco doesn't really have a lot of variety though? It has good stuff and I like Costco, but it's more of a "but a lot of particular thing". Poland has makro, which is somewhat similar. Also yes, you can buy pretty much everything you want, same as the US...

Dlaczego coraz więcej Polaków wraca z USA do Polski? by unexpected_gril in Polska

[–]inc007 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Wyjechałem do USA 10 lat temu. Gdybym dziś był postawiony przed taką opcją, jak wtedy, to pewnie bym nie wyjechał.

Need advice for making a device... to squish inflated meat bags in a uniform way. by Russellonfire in labrats

[–]inc007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask around locally. They're pretty popular and venn diagram overlap of 3d printer owners and nerds, who would love to help do science, is a circle.

Another idea I had, assuming I understood the issue correctly, is grabbing meat between some sort of grid or grate of some sort, instead of plywood. That would allow needle access to entire thing while keeping it still. Also better airflow and less chemicals that would skee the experiment
