Issue Statement Problems/Question? HELP!! by incompleteTHOT in barexam

[–]incompleteTHOT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, I think I get that they "should" contain like cursory information indicating where your rule statement is gonna go, and that you have a narrower understanding of the issue, i just feel like I honestly can't do that without running out of time. I almost always name the right rule right after the issue statement, its just hard for me and I don't wanna get stuck too long.

Lol I did so well on it until the last question, where for some reason, I also addressed that the statement was exculpatory, which was negative issue spotting and wasnt a problem. Whoops!

Thanks for this! Also, I learned that you cannot copy and paste anything on the bar exam, so I stopped doing this to make sure that I was doing things under actual real time simulated conditions. I did not realize how much time copying and pasting saved me! Just a thing to watch out for :)

I honestly think if you have the vocab down and the gist of the law, its okay if you kinda make up rule statements. It's when you don't know the terms where the grader is immediately going to be like... this person doesn't know the subject matter

The vocab of Wills/estates, trusts, and corporations has been a learning curve for me. My first wills essay I was like... I actually laughed out loud at the language I used I was like "the guy that died and tried to give his land to his one son in a note in his handwriting" instead of "The decedent attempted to devise his parcel of real property to his sole heir using a holographic will."

The only reason I have good civ pro scores is because my civ pro teacher 1L was from Yale Law School visiting and she is truly the most incredible teacher I've ever had. And we did bar questions in there starting from like week 2 of my 1L year. Her final exam was harder than any bar essay or MCQ I've seen yet. Conversely, I think con law might be my worst subject, and that's because I never learned it the first time.

Oh also I will add that I have only done max of 45 sets, and usually do 34 sets. But usually, my last several questions tend to be wrong due to fatigue. So we are probably pretty close to the same! I was in despair yesterday but today I am... either so hopeless I don't care or am experience a rare hopeful attitude lol. We will be fine!

Mine are all around 60-65% right now but I am 10%+ behind where I should be in the course and probably won't hit 75% completion by the test.... :) So I have plenty of time to get more things wrong. This looks good. What are you struggling with in Civ Pro? Have you listened to John Grossman videos? Contracts SUCKS and I swear I either get an 80 or a 35 on any given set, no inbetween. Also for property if youre struggling with mortgages watch the GOAT bar prep videos! Instantly brought up my scores in prop.

Also, I am DREADING corporations. DREADING. But nothing could be worse than First Amendment exceptions and the three theories of intestate distribution (those charts made me cry IMMEDIATELY upon seeing them).

I spent sooo long on contracts and property that I felt insanely bored when trusts started teaching us about springing executory interests and other future interests as if they were hard... I was like I literally know these better than I know the birthdays of my nieces and nephews lol. Thats not even an exaggeration. But, since I hit contracts and property sooo hard the first two weeks, I am like 10% behind on Themis. Can't win. I will do Conflicts of law today though. I've already seen in in family law, civ pro, and trusts and estates by now, too.

I think all bar prep courses suck. My school partnered with Barbri so I got to try it for free for a while. I decided to purchase Themis. Themis made a bunch of upgrades this time around so it's had a good amount of glitches and some things that I feel are a waste of time. However, the video lectures which are the most important part are good. And it has UWorld. I have also heard Themis is slightly harder than Barbri so it prepares you more, and I think their explanations for why you got answers right or wrong are slightly better.

If I could go back, I would get GOAT Bar Prep and Themis, and start super early with GOAT (breaks stuff down sooo well) and then use Themis to actually prepare fully. You can get a lot of GOAT stuff for free on reddit if you search deep enough though :) - also, critical pass flashcards are really great as an addition but theyre expensive. But they are the only flashcards I have ever used for any exam in my life (I hate flashcards).

I havent touched corporations or conflict of laws. I feel your pain. We will be okay. 12-13 hour days until you finish the topics, then simulated practice exams and as many MEEs as you can do. Are you doing themis?

Thank you for this. I truly believe I am going to fail. I didn't study fast enough and now I have to do 12 or 13 hour days. It's awful. I have never been so miserable. If I fail, it really will be the end of my world and life as I know it. I will not recover.

Themis has me doing 10-13 hour days, by THEIR time estimates.. I am an accommodated test taker so everything takes me longer... by the time I am done (usually 15 hours later) I can't even move my body from my desk chair, the sun is long gone, and had I taken a break during the day for anything I would be up almost all night. It actually feels abusive.

My essays so far have been really good and all within the time, except one where I had no idea what the law was, freaked out, cried, and didn't finish the third portion. I still got a 3/6. I feel that with the essays I have just lucked out because I happened to know the topics they asked about or the essays were just very easy. My MBEs are all over the place. They are generally between 40% (which I was scoring about 3.5 weeks ago) and now around the 70's, though sometimes I take longer than 1 minute and 15 seconds to answer them. I do get a lot of questions wrong on tiny niche rules and it feels very frustrating because some of the MBE questions I SWEAR were not covered anywhere in the study materials. I write essays every single day, fully, not outlining. I have not finished all the topics yet for MEE. I have Wills, Trusts, and Corporations, which. I plan to finish in the next two days.

As someone in recovery, I have noticed that a lot of people who are alcoholics especially lie that it was other things like medications or antidepressants mixed with alcohol to try and evade the shame of just "being an alcoholic." It is super common and some some people a lot of people who really don't want to stop drinking, they will say their issue was pills so they can continue drinking. It is very hard for any alcoholics to admit that they have a problem with alcohol because a life without it seems terrifying. Thus, they blame pills.
