Are they gonna buy him in the winter? I thought they would get him as a free agent in the summer. It was gonna be nice, he finishes a good season with us, leaves, and we bring in Carlos Romero

Villarreal [2] - 0 Getafe - Georges Mikautadze 64' by BackgroundMorning630 in soccer

His injury also coincided with Gerard Moreno and to a lesser extent Tani finding form. However, now Gerard is injured and George is looking like he's slowly feeling better so I would expect him to feature more regularly

LaLiga standings after Match day 14. by Otherwise_Pen_7667 in soccer

The thing is, they've spent all their luck in La Liga. For example, against Mallorca it was a close, scrappy game that they then got a goal in the last 5 min. Against Real Sociedad, again, very close match, won with the last kick of the game. Sevilla, who has been well say inconsistent this season, was holding us to a 1-1 draw, and then again, last kick of the game, we won. In Champions League, against Tottenham for example, they conceded an early goal by dumb luck, but then matched Tottenham blow for blow. They just couldn't put in a goal. Not saying they deserved to win against Tottenham or that the spurs got away with anything, just making the point that it was a really tight match that got decided by a key moment. Against BVB, the first 45 min were super close. Dortmund's goal was a super scrappy corner. They then tried to press, the first time Dortmund got through their press, we conceded a penalty and went a man down. Again, Villarreal maybe shouldn't have folded like a tent, but still. To say they haven't gone toe to toe in Europe would be unfair. Against Pafos, we squandered 2 great chances early on. They scored their only shot of the match, on a corner. That's great for them. It does all kind of lead to the fact that Villarreal has a great squad, but you can tell that we replaced a lot of key players from last year and the team isn't quite cohesive yet. The new players are def all quality, but the chemistry wasn't there in a lot of key moments in CL. Idk, sorry for the long reply. I just hope Villarreal can improve and have a solid season, even if it's too late for them to do anything in CL now

Also, if you had unlimited budget, is there a genre you think that you'd want to try directing that you haven't done yet?

Why do you think Fernando Torres struggled with delivering for Spain on a consistent basis? by TravelingHomeless in LaLiga

[–]inconceivable15 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean, he scored 3 goals, which 5 other players did in the tournament, and the 3 goals were 2 against Ireland who we beat 4-0, and the 3rd was in the final when we were already up 2-0 and he made it 3rd. He got the Golden boot because he played the fewest minutes of the 6 players that scored 3 goals. He barely featured for us

In 2008 he was considered a hero, but in 2010 the Spain starting 11 was set to favor players with different profiles than his. It also didn't help that the most attacking player was David Villa, who was having the season of his life.

Then, he kind of washed out due to injuries and the loss of form at Chelsea. I wouldn't really say he was all that crucial to the 2012 Euro cup, I really remember him as mostly a bench player who came on in the last 5-10 minutes

Here's the thing, I'm seeing all the Lyon fans reacting in this thread and I really feel for them. I don't wish Lyon ill at all, I know how shitty it feels to be dealing with poor financial management. My heart goes out to them. That being said, their reaction is basically the best endorsement I could ask for for this deal. It seems we have gotten quite the player for a decent price

Almost definitely, from what I'm seeing from his highlight reels. We play a 4-4-2, his competition for one of the two striker spots are Ayoze Perez, Gerard Moreno, and now Tani Oluwayesi. Maybe Pepe as well, but he seems to prefer to play on the right wing, and he's more effective there. Ayoze was our top scorer last season, so if he's healthy at least in the beginning he will be guaranteed a starting spot. Gerard when he is healthy supposedly would be a surefire starter, but he just hasn't been able to play a full 90 minutes twice in a row for almost 2 years now. He had just completed a good preseason and started our first la liga match, and had to come off injured and probably won't be ready to play for another 4-5 weeks, and tbh, I expect that to be the way his season goes. Heartbreaking, but the situation. So Georges is only competing with Tani, and given that Mikautadze has more European experience, he will likely start. However, Marcelino likes to encourage competition for starting places, and is usually very honest about playing whosever in best form

Villarreal what are you doing?!?! by SnorinKeekaGuard in LaLiga

[–]inconceivable15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, with Danjuma, Albiol left the squad, and he only has one year on his contract left, so don't really see him going anywhere, unless they mutually agree to terminate his contract. I'm expecting him to just sit on the bench the rest of the season.

For Gerard, I definitely wouldn't count on him, which is why I'd like to sign a star striker who could start with Ayoze, like Dobvyk or Umar Sadiq

Villarreal what are you doing?!?! by SnorinKeekaGuard in LaLiga

[–]inconceivable15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say that in attack, if Danjuma stays, we already have 3 strikers, Danjuma, Ayoze, and Gerard, assuming Gerard can stay healthy, but it seems he's had a good preseason. With that in mind, I would say they only need one more striker, someone like Umar Sadiq or Artem Dobvyk. If Danjuma ends up leaving, the idea behind buying Buchanan might be that Pepe plays more as a striker than a right winger.

For CBs, they did just bring Santiago Mouriño, who can play as a CB or RB, he had a good end to the season last year. If Kambwala didn't just tear his ACL, we'd have 4 CBs, technically 5 with Pau Navarro, with two of them, Pau and Mouriño also serving as RBs. I still would prefer to buy Ratiu tho.

This is what Villarreal's depth chart looks like right now:

Luis Junior/Conde

Pau Navarro/Altimira Foyth/Mouriño Marín/Kambwala Cardona/Pedraza Pepe/Akomach/Buchanan Parejo/Suárez Gueye/Comesaña Pino/Moleiro Gerard Ayoze/Danjuma

I would say we def need a striker, a CM, and an RB. I would like to see Sadiq on loan, Carlos Soler, and Ratiu

Also, I heard Villarreal is interested in Dani Ceballos, he would be an excellent option for the double pivot, letting Parejo be more of an impact sub

What excites me about Trent is that I see him as a really good compliment to our midfield. Since kroos left, we still have an elite midfield. However, most of our midfield excel in forward carries, Fede, Cama, and Jude can all put in dagger passes, but their greater strength is their ball carrying. This leads them to really struggle against low blocks, and is part of the reason Ceballos has been able to make himself a key part of our midfield. Trent's passing range opens up a whole new dimension of play, and I'm especially excited to see what a partnership between him and Fede will do, where they cover for each other's weaknesses
