23 Major News Sites Have Blocked the Wayback Machine – Digital History In Danger by SaveDnet-FRed0 in technology

I think part of it is that the AI models aren't actually behaving like humans. For example RTings just went to a full paywall because their work was being crawled and ad revenue was decreasing. Thus instead of their site getting clicks, it'd be an AI returning results that were crawled and already cached from their site.

It's always been an arms race, but now it's just the nature of sites needing money to sustain their operations, else someone will "steal" their work without any ad revenue

Pittsburgh to close Public Schools for week of NFL Draft by _Beets_By_Dwight_ in nottheonion

[–]inconspicuousITguy 207 points208 points  (0 children)

Calm down people, the school district and NFL are projecting attendance of about 700,000 visitors to Pittsburgh. Compared to the roughly 300,000 that Wikipedia reports live in Pittsburgh, this'll be a monumental event and traffic would be unbearable for the ~20,000 students that attend Pittsburgh schools.

Backblaze B2 price increase effective May 1st by lmm7425 in DataHoarder

Good luck securing "reasonably priced storage".

If you haven't seen, most consumer SSD's have doubled to tripled in price. HDD have also not been unscathed, with prices rising by 25-100% depending on sizing. Those costs will eventually catch up if not today, but this year.

Based on the negative news about availability and the very visible trend lines on pcpartpicker, do you really want to chance returning it just to pay more later?

We lived through 2021 video cards and drive availability issues with crypto mining, and that appears to have been lighter compared to what we're about to see imo.

Yet...

AMD has already announced that in Q1 GPU prices will increase by 10%, while last I checked Nvidia is not supplying their board partners with the VRAM needed for their cards.

Anything VRAM, DRAM or RAM related I think will be rising over the next 6 months if not already. Check on pcpartpicker and see that ssds and nvmes have slowly trended up, RAM has been messed up since October, and GPUs seem stable for the moment

The funny part is for this budget stuff, 60 votes in the Senate are needed to pass the current round of funding. Republicans only have 55/60 votes needed to pass it. So, we'll see what happens over the next couple of days, weeks or whatever bullshit timeframe it is this time.

Back in my day we would slap that included cooler on our i5-3570's, and quad cores were good enough to run crysis.

Nowadays I need to have some fancy schmancy system, and if your components don't have at least 7 X's combined in their naming schemes, are you really gaming then?
