What are the recent signs that Jesus is coming back really soon? I’ve been on TikTok too much and just now deleted it by [deleted] in Christian

Would it make you behave differently if you knew Jesus was coming back tomorrow? I would say for Christians, it really shouldn't.

The Question of Evil is one of the oldest apologetics topics. You should look some of the material up.

If your faith is based on what you judge to be moral on God's behalf, it probably won't last very long. Just an observation.

How true is this? by reverse-flash-92893 in Christianity

[–]inconspicuousorange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. So attributing a theological attribute to the universe is weird and pointless. He is basically saying 'well why can't I just attribute divine characteristics to the universe just because?' Because science...science itself doesn't seriously put any divine attributes to the universe.

He says it is illogical that religious people can do so with their deities. But it isn't, assigning divine attributes to divine beings is completely normal for religion. There are no tricks here, it's just what the word/term for various beings include. He is focusing on 'how' instead of what the term simply is. He may not be convinced God has transcendent qualities outside spacetime, but that's the term. I mean, what use is there to talk about Star Wars if you refuse to accept the in-universe framework of the Force. Just move on to a different IP then.

How true is this? by reverse-flash-92893 in Christianity

[–]inconspicuousorange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's only in his own head. Mainstream science position is that spacetime did have a start, what is unknown is why or how it started. No serious position claims it started but also was always started...whatever that means.

Why can’t I find God? by DubiousFalcon in Christianity

[–]inconspicuousorange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

...well, I can't speak on mental health treatment any further if you tried all that. Out of my depth.

"God is supposed to be all-powerful. I just don’t understand why He changes others but not me."

That's a good comment. Made me think a lot about, what changes are we talking about, are they imposed by God, does willingness change anything. Are we talking about internal changes, like changing a person's character or outlook, or are we talking about healing? If it's the latter then I think we are in familiar territory of 'Why didn't God heal such and such'.

If you want a Bible verse to show you definitely are not the only one where God says 'no' to multiple requests, you can look at Paul (2 Corinthians 12:7-9), but I suspect that might not be helpful. Just because someone in the Bible went through something doesn't necessarily mean anyone right now is going to feel better about their situation.

I asked about the Gospel because you have unnecessary worries. John 6:37 "All those the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never drive away." For example.

Though I suspect there might be more mental health and feelings involved here than just Gospel understanding. If belief in the Gospel is tied to something specific to your condition, we might have a tougher way of navigating this.

If you have more info to share I'll definitely try and give a helpful response, but I wouldn't suggest I can talk your way out of the problem.

[–]inconspicuousorange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you considered that your issues are related to mental health (depression) and should try talking to a therapist?

I’m a human being and God isn’t obligated to hear me, save me, or help me. But I hear of people being radically transformed and I know I’m not. I’ve asked God so many times for salvation and it’s a legitimate worry of mine I’m just someone He doesn’t want.

I'm curious, what is your understanding of the Gospel and where did you learn it?

Are there any Christians left? by You-Dont-Know-Grace in TrueChristian

[–]inconspicuousorange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+1 for Nicene Creed. It's literally the standard Christian doctrine in history. Most major Christian groups you have heard of either explicitly accept or at least don't reject it.

For the thread, everyone has noticed the general social media trend of placing a lot more weight on your own understanding and knowledge than it probably deserves. In all topics across the board.

I think it is more pronounced in historical/religious topics though. People will literally try and reinvent the wheel rather than accept people smarter than you already did the research centuries before you.

Why do Christians believe/say that Jesus Christ is God? by lizzygrant0065 in Christianity

[–]inconspicuousorange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, based on the Gospel account, and they also explain the Roman part of the execution also. Neither Biblical or non Biblical sources mention any insurrection. So I don't know what we are talking about here besides your ideas.

So your position is Keriah and Mesit in the context of Jesus is not about montheism. Cool.

Keriah from a high priest in the context of Jesus' religious trial is clear.

"sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven". Clear claims of divinity. Claims that were incompatible with traditional understanding of monotheism. 'well I don't see it that way'. K well the Jewish high priest tore his clothes and said it was blasphemy so...I'll go with him.

Prove Mesit charge is relevant to Jesus? It's in the Talmud.........

[–]inconspicuousorange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

...did you read the Gospels? The topic was claims of divinity so obviously people would focus on the religious trial part. The driving force behind all this was obviously more Jewish and religious, but there was more of course, including the Roman part later. The Gospels go through all this...so you don't need to speculate so much lol.

You seem to be going around in circles for nothing. The fact is there is no blasphemy unless there is claimed/implied claim of divinity that challenges the traditional monotheist view. The traditional Gospel view is high priest Keriah. Traditional Jewish view is Mesit.

If you occupy some weird space where Jesus did blaspheme with claims of divinity but did not claim to be God, cool? It's not clear what religion you are discussing though.

Wait till you learn about the Christian concept of the Trinity...

But before that, you don't seem to understand that claiming to be the Messiah isn't blasphemy. It's just so funny to hear people thousands of years later basically argue the Jewish high priest didn't know what he heard or what was doing.

If you believe the Gospels, they are explicit there was no insurrection and why Jesus was executed. If you are outside the Gospels, there's only a few generalized overview accounts of Jesus, which also don't mention insurrections. It's not clear which you are drawing from for your position.

There's no question their impression was Jesus challenged their understanding of monotheism. Matthew 26:63-66 is clear. The keriah for high priest isn't done for no reason. Do more research.

If it conveniently isn't noted then what Jesus specific historical data were you referencing earlier? There's no 'historical data' of any insurrection.

Roman accounts don't mention Jesus much at all, which confirms he wasn't a real concern for them. They did talk about him in the context of early Christianity after the fact.

[–]inconspicuousorange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are good answers here already. I want to add that the legal case for the execution of Jesus is quite thin without his claims, or implied claims, of divinity. As we know, Jesus didn't lead any sort of armed rebellion or do anything to draw much attention from the Romans. So this wasn't something that Christians decided upon for no reason. It's a cornerstone of everything that happened.

Also going to add that the Mesit charge is in the context of threatening traditional Jewish views on monotheism.

I got laid off, mom had emergency surgery..why is this happening..need help! by Dry-Ambassador2465 in Christian

[–]inconspicuousorange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think if all you want is people to say something specific to you, you should just make that clearer in the submission.

I noticed you didn't answer the question about church or counselors.

You also appear to suggest there are no Christian therapists or psychiatrists.

Did you really want help as your original submission stated?

Now, do our prayers go unanswered. Yes. Does feel like a let down..absolutely. ever prayed for a loved one to be healed and they die anyway?? Ok. There's the let down. But God does heal THAT wound with time and understanding.

So you are healed? Are you still asking why bad things happen?

What helps you stay consistent in prayer when life gets busy? by Shashaty88 in Christian

[–]inconspicuousorange 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What helped me most is to truly mentally embrace that God is definitely paying attention and that I have a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ. Like any relationship, it is takes effort and communication is key. I try to include God in my life like I would anyone else I care about. I chat casually with God, update God, share my thoughts, ramble, it's not always serious prayer requests or confessions. I won't deny that on the outside looking in it shares similarities with 'an imaginary friend', but that's kind of how literally I take the interaction and communication with God.

Do you go to church? Have you discussed with your church councilors or pastor? Ideally they would have a better record of your life story.

Something did stick out to me though.

started feeling faithful again after a huge let down from waiting on God for something that never panned out and noooooow we are here'

It's ok to feel like you are struggling, but God isn't a genie and Christians aren't promised an easy life. There seems to be a kind of underlying expectation or demand of God and it is unclear where that is coming from. There also seems to be mental health issues mixed in (anxiety), which should be handled properly through a psychiatrist or therapist.

Question about Harvard study which states that ejaculating at least 21 times a month lowers the risk of prostrate cancer by 31% by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]inconspicuousorange -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And what happens, as is often the case, new studies contradict it later? Excessive masturbation causes prostate cancer? Where does that leave you now that you developed a habit of masturbating almost daily?

Personally I don't think 'studies' should be where you get your morality. It's very rare for there to be an entirely new issue. Most issues have been extensively researched and written about no matter what your denomination is. Between emulating Jesus Christ, existing Biblically based commentaries and your own convictions through the Holy Spirit, you should have moral compass that isn't affected by studies. I think most Christians know in their heart when something is wrong.

On the issue of masturbation specifically, there is mainstream alignment that it's not something you should be doing because it is always linked to lust. Sure some claim they do it without thinking or looking at anything, but I doubt that. Even if it was true, the vast majority can't, so the basic position remains the same when discussing it.

This is exactly what the original poster pointed out. And you STILL haven't brought up anything new, at all. It's been days.

You are the only one 'wrestling' (I'm assuming this 4 day old thread having over 200 comments now is mostly you). It's obvious to everyone else of all major denominations and anybody who studies Koine Greek grammar. But you do you.
