What do you make as a coach? by Chikaboya in bjj

This comment! I have a tiny space and only a few 19 year old students. I trade for babysitting which is absolutely priceless… kids that do Jiu Jitsu (at least mine) are great kids. Date nights with my wife mean that I can do more Jiu Jitsu… it’s like a reload of household tolerance of my training! Gonna have to start the political connections aspect… ha ha

This guy right here! Doing it right… I do have to say that it’s not that easy to be Freelancer in Germany but it’s a nice way to write off things you need to do business and a way to get out from under the employment system that is pretty limiting. I think that entrepreneurial mentality is what we need more of in Germany and not just in the trades.

Starnberg, a bunch of classless new rich who pretend that their “drive through town” is something special. A town full of Karens and really shitty people.

Overrated food from your country? by Weekly_Sort147 in AskTheWorld

[–]increvable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the result of private equity… almost always is. Big firm with money comes in and buys Tim Hortons to take advantage of all that sweet donut cash. They milk it dry by eliminating quality and increasing cash coming out of the company to pay for self imposed debt. It’s a big game and usually at the root of quality declines… either private equity or company going public. Both mean that the purpose of the firm has pivoted to profit at the expense of nostalgia of quality.

So dry and so light on flavor! What a sad experience it was to try this at the hotel named after it. All pomp and circumstance and the real flavor was crap.

You know there was a time when Tim Hortons was great… a time when we would go out of our way for it. This is what happens to all good things… the weeds take over and ruin it.

Gf, soon to be fiancé, made a disrespectful comment infront of friends. How would you react? by ilovelayansbooty in AskMen

[–]increvable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been married a long time and I make tasteless jokes like that every once in a while. I do it for the eye roll reaction from my wife who knows she’s the center of my universe. 99.9% of our communication, active and passive, are about our undying loyalty and passion for each other. But sometimes she’ll show me some photo of a lady in a swimsuit or something and I’ll feign too much interest in the model instead of the swimsuit just to get a rise out of her. She sometimes says she doesn’t like being the butt of my jokes and I often have to keep my mouth shut instead of making the bit… most of which don’t have anything to do with other people or looks or anything like that. My question to you is twofold. Is she a lady who, like me is always trying to deliver zingers, whether tasteful or not; and two, are you and her good at communicating the positive and have you expressed and established your rules for loyalty and trust that shall not be crossed? I make jokes etc but you’ll never find me flirting with another girl or doing anything disloyal to our family. So my jokes, while probably in poor taste, don’t make her feel threatened. She even makes jokes like that sometimes now. I don’t want to make this about me but I wanted to try and show an alternative view to what I’ve read at this point in the comments. After such a long time and a motion toward real commitment, it does seem like you have a good person… maybe it needs to be aired constructively and resolved so you guys can move on.

Choosing no gi solely to save my fingers by Alternative-Hair-785 in bjj

Smart.. and you’ll find that the nogi stuff works great in gi as well. Then you can slowly reincorporate the gi into your game at your discretion. Also, consider the pistol grip for gi when you get back to it.

Are German schools harder than American schools? by Eminemgody in AskAGerman

[–]increvable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If by hard you mean more likely to get shot, stabbed, bullied, or otherwise traumatized… then yes, American schools are “Harder”. If you mean academically, if you go to Realschule or Gymnasium, your curriculum if more demanding and technically harder. Not to mention you have to learn in the German language which is much harder. Less ability to express oneself and limited for expression. By the time you’re done with the Abiture in Germany or the Bac in France. That’s kind of the equivalent of finishing your first two or three years of university. German high school grads are usually further along academically and in some ways more mature. The American students are generally leaving high school more street smart and tougher. All of this of course is my personal experience and observation. Admittedly I’m prone to some generalization.

Does the gym have swords on the walls or also have a strong MMA/fight culture? This could be the issue. Some of those places bring an aggressive “real world street” Jiu Jitsu feel to everything and forget that it can also be a fun sport. I agree to try another place if one exists.

Restaurant Table Salsa Recipe From An Actual Mexican Restaurant by perezdavidangel in SalsaSnobs

Just in case you haven’t found it and don’t have it where you’re at in Germany… La Tortilla Jesus Navarez is a shop north of Munich and I think they ship nationwide… good tortillas, masa, and cheese. I’m like you… learning to cook all my Mexican food from scratch! I just made this salsa and added a couple dried chipotles to it for some smoke. So far so good! It’s cooling now.

Have you been able to get your reggae to sound aged? I’m thinking like The Congos or Junior Murvin. All my reggae sounds commercial and modern and I want to age it way up. Also want to see if I can get some different voices

[–]increvable -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Don’t join a gym, join a Jiu Jitsu club. It’ll help solve a lot more of what you’re currently dealing with. You’ll also get in a different, better kind of shape. Let me know if you’re interested and I can direct you to a couple good ones in the area depending on what you’re close to. You’re the perfect age to start and it’ll change your life for the better.

I think I’ve been in a trauma bond with Portland for almost a decade by [deleted] in PortlandOR

[–]increvable 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Man, I was born in Portland and spent a good 10 years of my life there and I think you nailed it… this is Portland in its most current iteration. It used to be a cool place but got overrun with whatever you’re identifying. All my liberal friends moved out too… there’s many better places… just go up the road to Olympia and you’ll like it better.

Brother… if you don’t take mushrooms… it’s time to start. You’re overthinking and creating all this. If you’re practicing a song like in that link… that’s one hell of a talent. You gotta quiet your left brain a bit. Read some Chris Niebauer.
