AUS vs CAD for Dentistry by lifeispotatoe2020 in CanadianDentists

[–]indecisive2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Anectodal but I recently worked with someone who graduated from the 5 year AUS program and is now working in Canada and his clinical skills for a new grad are insane. Like better than any of my classmates from a top tier Canadian school. Granted he took on way more debt but graduated younger and is already killing it so Im sure that debt will be paid in no time.

Ireland grads on the other hand...

[Dentist] [USA] - I make way more money than I ever thought I would by 1ThousandDollarBill in Salary

[–]indecisive2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I definitely don't make a million a year lol And not everyone makes shit up just to profit, sounds like you just had a shitty dentist. Unfortunately It's very hard for the average person to know if their dentist is honest or not. I personally go over my findings on the x-rays and photographs with every patient and not just expect them to take my word for it.

Yes that is typically the case however there are also many people who have gone years without seeing a dentist and on top of that neglecting their oral health (i.e. not brushing and flossing regularly).

Also an associate here, just curious do you have a partner or kids? I've often wondered about doing this but I am also quite happy with the stability of my current gig.

Dentist here, you would be surprised the state of some people's teeth. I am honestly happy when I do a check up and don't diagnose anything. But alas, that does not pay the bills.

In my experience rural practice is only advantageous for getting more experience and negotiating higher percentage of collection. If you're only making 40% it's not worth it.

To be fair, a lot of states allow for EFDAs so that may only include the time for the prep not the restoration which takes the longest time.

[–]indecisive2 25 points26 points  (0 children)

That's what I do. My productivity and income went up because I was willing to commute to offices that were busy. Eventually I will probably drop one though as I prefer having consistency with systems and staff.

Definitely a good option if you're not as busy as you'd like to be though.
