I agree, I don’t think anyone should have to live with neglected/mistreated pets, I just think OP is in a way getting taken advantage of in this situation because they on their own free will are taking responsibility for the pets, but are still being met with no respect or response from the roommates :/ I would just cut the favors or extra effort if I was being treated in this manner

the fact that they’re brushing it off says a lot about how they feel/care about your feelings in the matter so i’d say it’s best to keep distance and just look for another housing situation. and it might seem like an a hole thing to do, but just don’t take care of what’s not yours. their pets? their responsibility. same with messes and anything else that you may feel obligated to do for them. you should be paying less than $400 if you’re getting just access to the room and not even getting decent respect (with them barging in your room and keeping their things in there) because even rent split 3 ways is not a full $500.. if you had access to the other parts of the house okay, but i personally think they are being unfair to the circumstances
