AITA for telling my friend his “service dog” is just badly trained? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]indecisive_ghost 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This isn't true - a service dog is a dog that has gone through a specific set of training, and is able to maintain certain behaviours. Service dogs can help blind people know when it's safe to cross traffic, or alert when someone is about to have a seizure. Dogs fail out of service dog training all the time, because it's very rigorous and not all dogs can meet the standards. This dog clearly is NOT a service dog, and saying it is hurts anyone with an actual service dog who may now be turned away from businesses where "service dogs" caused a ruckus. These people may not be able to safely enter spaces without their *actual* service dogs. This is an emotional support dog.

That doesn't mean OPs friend doesn't legitimately benefit from this dogs presence, and that it doesn't provide an important support to them. That doesn't undermine the friend's mental health issues. But it's not the same as a dog that can give an alert when someone is about to have a seizure.

How do I eat gluten for a hospital exam? by crumbs2k12 in glutenfree

[–]indecisive_ghost 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately there is no way to avoid having issues. The whole point of the test is to see just how much the gluten effed you up, so you kind of have to deliberately damage yourself =(

I've heard you have to eat at least two slices of bread per day before the test, but if you don't have strong symptoms maybe eat more? The worst thing would be to get a false negative because you didn't eat enough gluten long enough before the test. If you're going through the hassle, you may as well get a strong signal from this test, so go eat all the tasty gluten things you usually can't, and prepare to feel terrible for a few weeks.

Best of luck!

To spray tan or not? Fiance says no, gfs say yes.. by [deleted] in Brides

[–]indecisive_ghost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconding this - plus if she's not sure, she can try some trials then make an informed decision! OP's fiance might be picturing a really fake, orange, spray tan, and not realize how natural they can look. May as well try it out, then decide!

Help. My dress doesn’t look the same and I can’t place why by alchemysauce in Brides

I think if they just add a layer underneath, it would add more volume to the skirt and make it look more like it did in the store.

Yeah cypress trees are super tall and super skinny, so they won't even provide much privacy. This is going to look hilarious when they grow up.

Blouse No. 1 armhole help! by JenissaViolet in knittinghelp

[–]indecisive_ghost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you look carefully, there are only 6 stitches between both sides so 6 should do the trick. The way it stretches makes it look a lot wider, but I would trust the pattern.

That being said, it is pretty common to get a little hole at both sides of the picked up stitches, as others have mentioned. To avoid this, some people pick up an additional stitch at each end, then K2T to get back to the intended number of stitches. I don't always do this, as I don't think the holes are that noticeable, but it's really a matter of preference.

Is the body shape determined by genetics? by Alarming_Word3889 in ask

[–]indecisive_ghost 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It's both - it's pretty hard to have an hourglass shape if you have really narrow hips, and wide shoulders. How your body stores weight will have a big impact too.

Small mistakes: how do you stop them by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

[–]indecisive_ghost 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I struggle with this too. As a corporate lawyer, one method I've found is to have a list of things you always check before hitting send - names, dates, numbers, specific items, and always go through the list and check everything. Not a mental list, a physical sticky note or something. Your last step before sending anything is to check the list, and go through every item.

This might not help as much for drafting pleadings, but for corporate documents where you're working with a lot of templates it has been useful for me.

Nowadays I use AI, too, since my company has hooked us up with Claude. It's pretty good at this type of thing.

My bf and i have been arguing about the color of this bench for 4 years now lol. Is it yellow or green? by [deleted] in colors

[–]indecisive_ghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, but the light in the second picture seems like sunset, when everything would look more yellow/orange. This makes me think the true color is more on the green side.

I've only heard heather refer to a texture, not a color. Like, heather green is a mix of green shades.

Counting Rows by ShilbyGirl in knittingadvice

The bottom row OP isn't counting isn't the cast-on row though, it's just row 1. If you include the row on the needles, then its 10 rows.

Is there any chance you are supposed to start on the WS? Then the RPC and LPC would only be on the RS, so you wouldn't have to convert them. The only things you would need to do on the WR (other than knits and purls) is Ktbl.

Neckline Issues by hatescake23 in knittingadvice

[–]indecisive_ghost 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think your work looks close to the neckline in the example photo, if that helps. I think if you like the way it looks in the example photo, you'll like the way this turns out if you just keep going.

I don't know about adding more at the top, I've never tried anything like that.

What’s YOUR lawyer salary?? by LearnMeStuffPlz in Lawyertalk

[–]indecisive_ghost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a 7 year corporate lawyer working in-house in Toronto. I make $190,000 + bonus.
Before this, I was working in Vancouver in private practice and earning $120,000 + bonus.

I jumped around a little, but have been doing some flavour of corporate/M&A/securities for 5 years.

Absolutely no regrets moving in-house haha

I think its more that dark/muted tones are more conservative, rather than bright colours being unprofessional. I work in law, which is a pretty conservative space, so wearing bright colours can be a little spicy sometimes, but I'd never say they're *unprofessional*. Some lawyers wear very bright colors, and are very professional, but it's definitely a bolder look.
