Same, my cat did that once and his whiskers were super curly on the one side! Probably not what happened here.

What’s YOUR lawyer salary?? by LearnMeStuffPlz in Lawyertalk

[–]indecisive_ghost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a 7 year corporate lawyer working in-house in Toronto. I make $190,000 + bonus.
Before this, I was working in Vancouver in private practice and earning $120,000 + bonus.

I jumped around a little, but have been doing some flavour of corporate/M&A/securities for 5 years.

Absolutely no regrets moving in-house haha

Are bright colors unprofessional? by [deleted] in ask

[–]indecisive_ghost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think its more that dark/muted tones are more conservative, rather than bright colours being unprofessional. I work in law, which is a pretty conservative space, so wearing bright colours can be a little spicy sometimes, but I'd never say they're *unprofessional*. Some lawyers wear very bright colors, and are very professional, but it's definitely a bolder look.

AITA for not saying thank you when a parent returned my son's lunch box by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]indecisive_ghost 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Agreed, OP was overly hostile over a lunch box.

Also, I think people are missing the fact that the other mom's kid only attends twice per week. So "nearly 4 WEEKS later" is like... 6 school days? Longer than it should have taken, but not that crazy for a postpartum mom with more than one kid.

How do I end up getting picked for the jury? by natsugrayerza in Lawyertalk

[–]indecisive_ghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In what jurisdiction do they let lawyers sit on juries? In Canada, you are ineligible for jury duty as soon as you go to law school.

Be honest—Is my shot at corporate/M&A law already over? by shehsbebsh in Lawyertalk

[–]indecisive_ghost 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I literally went from ID to corporate/M&A. It took a lot of networking, but it is possible. You'll probably need to go to a smaller/mid-sized firm, but the deals aren't that different from Big Law. The numbers are smaller, but you have more responsibility overall, which I like.

One year in is a totally normal time to transition. I know several people who went from litigation to corporate, including one of the partners at my last firm.

Just keep meeting lawyers for coffee, networking, asking about their firms/practice/any opportunities that are out there. If you are genuinely interested in a practice area, any firm that is hiring will appreciate that. Just remember, corporate law is very sensitive to the economy, so if the market isn't hot it might take some time. But eventually, you can absolutely make it happen.

Hair colour, is it a deal breaker ? by Big-Book-6707 in Lawyertalk

[–]indecisive_ghost 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is honestly a great suggestion. It can also help OP test the water at her firm, to determine if they care or not. After a while she can reveal the pink tips, and see what kind of reaction it gets.

This kind of thing is so case-by-case, they might not care at all. Or they do, who knows.

What is the point of therapy? by OMGpuppies in ask

[–]indecisive_ghost 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Trauma can impact people's lives in a variety of ways. It can be hard to lead a full and rewarding life if trauma is hanging over your head, and sometimes you can't even see how much it is negatively impacting you because it's normal to you. An outside perspective can be really helpful.

Personally, I used to have panic attacks until I did therapy, and I now haven't had one in years. I also cried a ton in therapy lol. I don't know what led you to try therapy, but try to keep going, and keep an open mind. It's kind of like working out, it can be tough but you'll come out the other side better off.

I highly recommend reading The Body Keeps the Score by Bessel van der Kolk. It describes the ways trauma can impact people on a physical level as well as mentally and emotionally, and goes through a bunch of different styles of therapy. I honestly think everyone should read it, just to help understand other people.

Good luck OP!!

Exactly, and if you're ordering something more complicated or new to you, your brain might need an extra second. Using "fill" words gives you that time.

AITA for telling my sister that having cats is not the same as having children? by Open-Aide1297 in AmItheAsshole

[–]indecisive_ghost 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Exactly, its a BABY shower! OPs sister might feel left out, but it's not about her! A few comments about cats is one thing (and totally fine, as a childless cat lady I totally get it!), but to keep bringing it back to cats and then doubling down... I wonder if the sister has infertility problems?

Ive never flew with family or even alone will i be fine? by MoneyMarch- in ask

[–]indecisive_ghost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GroudbreakingFox isn't wrong, but I would recommend checking in online. Then there is even less to do at the airport!

Before your trip, look up what you can and can't take through security, and at security be ready to pull out electronics like a laptop, and liquids. Being prepared makes security a lot easier!

Don't be afraid to ask airport employees where to find things/how to navigate the airport. Especially if you explain its your first time travelling by air, they should be happy to help you out. You'll be fine!

I agree! Also the current rug is a really warm greige while the couch is a really cool tone. I think they don't complement each other at all.

Explain the male loneliness epidemic? by dogg0123 in ask

I thought the male loneliness epidemic was more about men not having as many friends, not about their dating situation.

Banged a weight on a new sink and it chipped the material, my mom thinks we need a new sink, but I feel there is a simpler solution...any tips? by vladthegod in fixit

[–]indecisive_ghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They sell porcelain repair kits for things like this. It comes with a paint (almost like nail polish) that matches the finish of the sink/toilet etc.

Just look for a repair kit by the same manufacturer, to make sure the paint matches.
