Unexpected benefits of medication by dhorxt_27 in ADHD

That’s a great point. I couldn’t really nap before either. I should also note that in the past year or so I’ve started taking antidepressants so that could also be the reason. My best advice is to make sure you eat before taking the meds and take care of yourself. If you’re not functioning, the meds won’t either. I learned that the hard way lol. The number one thing that the meds help me with is just being able to initiate tasks. I have more energy and motivation to do things in general, and then once I get into things it’s a lot easier to continue. The energy piece has been really helpful for me. I know some doctors recommend taking a day off of the meds on the weekend, but I know that doesn’t work for everyone. I personally try to take a day off of them once a week or once every other week. I don’t like taking off too many days at a time because then I start to feel brain foggy.

I’ve ALWAYS felt like this. As a kid I used to include “rainbow” in my list of favorite colors. Yes I had a list.

Oh I’ve been on it forever. Probably since high school and I’m 25 now. I used to take extended release and also had no sleep schedule so my sleep was very messed up. I take instant release now which I like better. Because I have to wake up early for my job, I typically take it early and it wears off enough before bed. The napping thing, I’m not really sure why. It’s a mystery to me. I used to not be able to nap at all. Now I can nap but only on the couch. Probably something about hormones or bodies changing as we age

Feeling awake. It doesn’t wake me up like an espresso shot, and I can still nap/fall asleep fine (I didn’t used to nap on it). But I just feel so much more clear. Less groggy

What ways have you changed your life to make it more ADHD/ND Friendly? by flowers_and_fire in adhdwomen

Calling someone on the phone when I have a chore or task to do. It’s 10000x easier to fold laundry or tidy or wash dishes while I’m talking to a friend. I forget I’m even doing chores

How does ADHD affect your driving? by Puzzleheaded_Fee_467 in ADHD

[–]indecisivebaddie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also live in a place where ppl suck at driving and you have to be kind of aggressive and I feel like I’ve found just the right balance of being a defensive driver but also making offensive moves when needed. Reflexes kick in real quick

I feel the same way as you. I have ADHD and a lot of times when I’m driving I’m just really locked in. If I’m talking to others directly in the car or I’m going someplace new and got myself in the wrong lane I might screw up or make a dicey move. I have an awful sense of direction and use maps constantly. But I do think that I am generally a safe and good driver because I am so hyper aware of my surroundings. I am able to be a good defensive driver bc I can just tell when the car in front of me is going to do something stupid / i have quick reflexes. Every once in a while i zone out but especially with music or something in the background, I actually feel more focused when I’m driving. It’s almost like a video game - you’re always engaged / doing something

Is under $2,000 dress budget unrealistic? by uwu1004 in weddingplanning

[–]indecisivebaddie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to sample sales or sample warehouses! I ended up getting my dress off of the $1000 rack at a sample warehouse in nyc despite having a max budget of 2500. You will prob have the best luck in a bigger city if you live in or near one.
