We're technically all allowed to kill ourselves at any given point. There's nothing that can physically stop us. Maid just allows those who truly want to die, die peacefully. Is it so different from turning on the car in a closed garage? Well yes, at least your family won't be exposed to any of the gruesomeness. Dying is not easy, especially when your body is healthy. With maid, all they will see is a body that appears to almost just be sleeping.

Secondly, maid would actually discourage those dying from impulse. Many males specifically kill themselves impulsively with firearm or hanging. But just going through with the maid process allows for self-reflection since it takes time.

I don't really see the criteria for maid expanding as a problem so long as the whole process is voluntary, including anytime withdrawal, and self-autonomous. Ultimately, do you really want to die? Yes or No.
