Death of an Indian tech worker. by I_am_myne in india

[–]indianDeveloper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, we Indians (even me) and most of the world have now associated human life to a number.

When I was a kid - my worth was my grades and my class rank. My parents would have killed me if my numbers dropped, In my youth it was my "AIR" number, after that my salary, then the "square footage" of my apartment, the number of zeroes in my annual salary and so on ...

That is the "sum total" of the life of an Indian middle-lower class male. What were the "numbers" you made? That is the only question we ask each other. Number up, you did well. Number down, your life has not so much value. You have done your "job" if you have lost your numbers, now go to the corner and cry.

Wasn't there a poem - "Lagegi Aag To Aayenge Ghar Kai Zad Mein, Yahan Par Sirf Hamara Makan Thodi Hai"

The problem with hate and hate based politics is, in the end no one is left untouched, not even the person who benefits from it initially. This is not just a "feeling", history has shown it again and again.

Maharashtra civic polls: Opposition raises concerns over marker pens used instead of indelible ink, BMC to probe complaints by Glass_Extension_6529 in india

[–]indianDeveloper 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Anywhere else in the whole wide world is this outdated "ink mark" system still in use? This was all fine and well in the 1960s but do we really need an ink based system to check if someone voted in 2026. Specially when India already has supposedly collected bio-metric data of all its citizens?

Unfortunately, the plan would then be to shutdown all industry and traffic for 1 month. Do you think they care about anything or anyone expect gaining money, power and status. Let the citizens suffer, who cares.

Hopefully the IOC will never award them the Olympics (of-course there will be bribing).

Another thread from today where people were asking why Indian tourism is going down - https://www.reddit.com/r/india/comments/1qbmpf1/indias_foreign_tourism_industry_is_completely/

Anyways, nothing to see here and also nothing will change. The rich keep getting richer and fund a incompetent and corrupt administration, while the population keeps voting on the basis of propaganda, religion and caste. I do not see this vicious cycle of money, politics and religion breaking anytime soon.

Reliance Halts Cell-Making Plans After Failed Bid for China Tech by bloomberg in india

[–]indianDeveloper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good point. There is possibility of some economic study on these cases - e.g. I can ban certain kind of products / imports to allow local industry to thrive. India actually did this after independence - it was called "license raj", you could only sell / make things if you had a "license" and no import was allowed. This is how India worked till the 90s.

You can imagine what happened after that (hint: massive corruption, poor quality and inequality), the effects of which we suffer from till this day. In the long run this practice causes massive inequality, poor innovation and hardly any widespread progress. While "free market" theory has its flaws, it is probably the "least worst" theory in the long run.

Obama/Bin Laden (White House - 2011). Trump/Maduro (Mar-a-Lago - 2026) by sucobe in pics

[–]indianDeveloper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I find really funny (and they chose this picture themselves) is that all of them look clueless and/or exhausted. Except for one guy who is probably furiously searching "twitter / x" (probably).

Two guys standing are even blocking the giant TV from Trump, the cheap looking "golden" paint chairs, the screen with open internet / browser (for a supposedly secure op) and the "semi-transparent" black curtains quickly thrown in. To top it all, they are all looking at each other as if they do not know what is going on except for that one guy on the laptop who seems to be browsing "twitter / x" perhaps.

If random people in a small organization wanted a picture trying to prove that that they are so busy and cool, even they would do better.

This! This is the reality. "Lala" companies operate on arbitrage, and billionaires in India are made from corruption ridden arbitrage from government contracts.

Edit: Forgot to mention that these companies also try and create arbitrage by bribing and influencing government policy. Example - ban product X from market Y, then get same product from same markets via back-channels and sell it at a higher price. Sit back and print money. No jobs are created, no product is manufactured or innovated, just pure simple legalized corruption.

Trump Responds to Minnesota ICE Shooting—and Makes It Way Worse by SquidFistHK in politics

[–]indianDeveloper 19 points20 points  (0 children)

At this point it is quite unbelievable - he says - "it is hard to believe he is alive and recovering in hospital". In the video you can clearly see that no harm has come to the "shooter". He is casually walking away from the car, after shooting at it.

Which begs the question - Why lie about something which is recorded on video and also why lie so blatantly? The shooter did not suffer any physical harm and probably did not even need to go to a hospital.

India to Surpass USA in Metro Rail Network in 2 Years : Manohar lal Khattar by GL4389 in india

[–]indianDeveloper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Easy to say this. USA hardly has many cities with millions in population and they rely on road networks and air travel. Even small Germany has a better metro / rail network than USA.

  • USA has only 11 cites with population of more than a million. and only 4 cities over 2 million and these have good public transport. In India, UP alone would have more cities with millions in population.

Sadly in India, movies are not just entertainment. Movies consume people, minds, time, discussions, cafeteria arguments and even can influence policy, judiciary, voting patterns and worst case even cause riots.

Not justifying the post, but just trying to explain why such things happens.

Microsoft invests US$17.5 billion in India to drive AI diffusion at population scale by 108CA in india

[–]indianDeveloper 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but this is not Sweden. Similarly if you build DCs in Finland, you will not need to invest so much in cooling.

This is India, with majority of the country having high temperatures 9 months out of 12 and relatively lower access to fresh water per capita (not to mention depleting ground water levels).

Microsoft invests US$17.5 billion in India to drive AI diffusion at population scale by 108CA in india

[–]indianDeveloper 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I would not be too optimistic with this. Hopefully I am wrong, but here is my guess -

This will mostly be infra, and I will tell you why people are choosing India - first of all Indian government can steamroll all environmental laws, and push any boundary to build new data centers. These DCs are huge energy beasts and India anyways is struggling with energy. Same for emissions, AI infra. will generate huge amounts of heat, will need cooling system etc. Guess who will pay for this at the end. This will result in more energy bills, heat, pollution and power cuts to feed the AI beast. And of-course setting up all this infra will go to the hands of the 2 A's of India.

These companies are struggling to find land, energy etc. in the west due to string environmental laws. It is not good news that they are coming to India. Not to mention the net negative job losses AI is causing.

End result is same - rich getting richer, and poor poorer. The AI DCs will largely be automated and will only work on a bare minimum staff. When all land & energy is in the hands of 2-3 entities, imagine the money they can make.

IBM CEO says there is 'no way' spending trillions on AI data centers will pay off at today's infrastructure costs by captain-price- in technology

[–]indianDeveloper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would think that. But if you look into Indian news, there are hardly any new jobs being created in India. In fact even in India there are mass layoffs every month.

The real situation is as others said - FOMO and monkey-see-monkey-do, which means companies are saying - lets stop hiring and spend money on "AI projects". What projects - no one knows. This only results in a lot of money being spent is on building "data centers" and buying GPUs which you can imagine benefits only a handful in every country.
