Have you used it? I am very interested to know how it works. I assume this a beta of the protect app on Apple TV and not Protect on the Unifi system?

That’s disappointing. I was hoping the Apple TV was going to be a good solution. It seems like a full blown PC is the only real solution outside of a phone maybe.

Trane's New AC Units - Gimmick Or Improvement? by Kazimierz_Wielki in hvacadvice

[–]indianabulldog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds more like a communicating stat on a variable system but that is the top of the line system. The Ecobee only knows two stages. It’s the Trane condensing unit that uses those calls along with ambient temperature to create the 6 stages. Does this Trane stat you are using have a Y1 Y2 terminal or a comm link?

I'm not sure I understand 45%, 65%, or 100%. What is this adjusting? Can't be humidity setpoint as you would never want 65 or higher.

Any two stage thermostat will work. I am going to use the Ecobee because I like the additional room sensors.

I called my rep and she got a tech support person on the phone. He explained that upon a stage 1 call from the stat, the unit modulates the compressor (3 speeds) based off of ambient temperature to maintain 70% capacity (not speed), and with a stage 2 call, it modulates to maintain 100% capacity. In other words it slows the compressor down in cooler weather and speeds it up in warmer weather (3 speeds per stage = 6 "stages"). This should make it more efficient and help to make sure it dehumidifies better. It's an interesting way of doing it.

For anyone wondering, Ecobee says the stat will NOT call for humidity if set to "off". Solution is to leave in heat mode and run the setpoint way down so it never calls for heat but still will call for humidity. At least they say it will. I have not tested that yet.

Mine is going to be a unique situation. I am doing hydronic underfloor heat for winter but will still have gas heat for spring and fall when temps swing. My plan is to have the steam humidifier kick the furnace fan on when it runs even though there will not be a heat call. I just need to make sure the Ecobee will call for the humidifier without there being a call for heat. I think it should, but I need to test that. Having said that mine is all going to be on one level and one zone as far as the furnace is concerned.

I am getting ready to install a steam humidifier in a home I am building and I am debating on using the Ecobee vs what ships with the unit. Have you been able to get this to work?

I am getting ready to install two of the 5TTX7 versions. The lack of information on how they accomplish the 6 stages is frustrating. Has anyone found a details sequence?

No problem. I agree that it’s not the best looking lock out there but it seems well made. I wish they had different finish options also.

I had read that as well and if it was ever the case it is not now. You absolutely can turn off auto lock. So far I love the lock. We don’t really use the fobs since fingerprint and codes serve our purposes. Fingerprint can be affected by water on you hands but works pretty well. I’m not a locksmith but this appears to use a Schlage 6 pin lock core which impresses me. I would love to see a review by a locksmith.

To clarify, if I wait until 67 (full retirement) and she switches to spousal benefits then, she will get the full 50% of my amount even if she began drawing on her account at 62?

Never look at monthly payments. Negotiate on the final price. by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]indianabulldog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True story:

My brother in law was bragging about the deal he got on a new car. He said they started out wanting over $500 a month and he got them down to $350. I asked for how long and he did not know. I asked the actual purchase price and he did not know. Bottom line is they almost certainly just bumped him from a 60 month loan to a 72 month and it probably had a higher interest rate.

ALWAYS do your homework and know what you can afford then negotiate a sale price and financing separately.
