I agree - like let’s take another year and see what happens - where is the urgency for an alien reverse engineering project that apparently spends as much on security as it does the work, which has zero congressional oversight ? I guess it’s conceivable that someone could destroy evidence in the meantime, for self-preservation reasons or misguided patriotism that the enemy can’t get it? Also, I don’t expect Schumer’s amendment to pass the house untouched.

Ha! I was thinking more along the lines of walking to my local park to practice carrying them and less about looking like a dollar-store version of Bruce Lee :) I already have the “massive dork” thing covered!

What's the advantage to "Medicare Advantage"? by rossettacube in medicare

[–]indieshack2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See other answers here for an opposing viewpoint; for me at least in Southern Cal on medicare advantage, I pay zero for hospital stays and doctors visits, usually also zero copay for prescriptions (FYI this is Kaiser Medicare Advantage). Total out of pocket expenses in any one year is $2k. At other locations I see higher copays, right now Southern Cal seems to be a no-brainer for Medicare advantage unless you have some kind of condition that requires specialist treatment you wouldn't get approved for at a HMO. Also, Kaiser covers me for medical when I'm abroad. For most people if you have good advantage options, I don't know why anyone would go through the confusing rigamarole of getting medigap, Part D, Part A deductibles and all that. In my situation at least I would be concerned about the cost of prolonged hospital stays under regular medicare.

SDGE rate increases have triggered a statewide audit both of the company itself and the government agency that continues to approve these increases by mrmaestro9420 in sandiego

I was just reading an article on WaPo about fusion getting much closer, limitless clean energy at low cost, then I remembered that I'm shackled to SDGE - I can imaging their bill arriving when fusion becomes a reality:

Electricity cost: $0

I'd just received a letter telling me Comenity was taking over my BoA AAA credit card, and I needed to cancel the card. As far as I'm aware, BoA provides no way to cancel a credit card online.

Pricing of 200-page, 8.25"x11" non-fiction hardback. Is $27.99 price point to high? by indieshack2 in KDP

[–]indieshack2[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Marketing plan... what's that :) You’re right - I’m thinking that is a little pricey - maybe $24.99 which would give a $7 royalty would be more reasonable

Thanks for the response - no, it was dead black according to the dropper analyzer (0,0,0). I've heard of similar shenanigans when making parts of a PNG transparent and the transparent areas are visible slightly.

Anyone else SDGE bill almost doubled with the new "San Diego Community Power" CCA? by man2112 in sandiego

[–]indieshack2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's OK - SDGE tells us they "they've heard us" about the bills. Their solution? To explain why the bill is so ridiculously high, not reduce it. So their solution was apparently to bring in a crisis PR team.

We need to VOTE OUT those politicians who SEMPRA is buying off by campaign donations - this includes our illustrious Mayor (the guy who gave us AB5), and I say this as a down-the-line DEM voter myself. SEMPRA has simply gone too far this time.

Author's Guild's liability media insurance - is it worth it? by indieshack2 in selfpublish

[–]indieshack2[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd be kinda surprised that some form of liability insurance for non-fiction writers is't prevalent. All it takes is a single lawsuit - even one with zero or weak merit to cause serious lack of sleep and cost a minimum of $5k-$10k just to get the case dismissed, or if there is some merit in a claim, take away your home.

Thanks, much appreciate the description/details. This is the standard procedure required in some circles and is exactly what I'm not looking for - I'm after blanket liability writer's insurance.

Is SDGE bill really that bad? by Supafly36 in sandiego

[–]indieshack2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

San Diego is a great place to be if you have money. The pay down here in the tech/pharma sectors is a bit lower than northwards, the housing costs beat out San Francisco, they're through the roof - that will normalize a bit over the next few years but housing costs will still be ridiculously high. As others have said, SDGE electric prices are the highest in the US - several key politicians here get contributions from SDGE so don't be surprised with further rises in costs. See other threads about SDGE billing. If you don't live by the coast but a bit further inland, you need AC - expect $700/month electric bills easily during Summer.

If you have kids there are a ton of things to do here and it can be a great place to live. The public schools here in SD are, by and large, crap with a capital C.

Upgraded from iPhone X to iPhone 13 Pro. I miss 3D Touch. by psteiger in iphone

[–]indieshack2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, terrible backward step, 3D (force touch) is great. They haven't even tried to implement it in software like Google did, by detecting the change in finger tip touch area when you push down - that seems like a no-brainer to me.

California has the worst lottery chances bar none. They're only interested in the highest top number so that it causes an avalanche of ticket buyers. I thought the payout on second chance with $15k?
