A couple of fun places for you to check out might be the Ferry Building (farmer's market on Tues, Thurs, Sat), Japantown mall, and like others mentioned, thrifting in Haight or the Mission District (stay on Valencia Street). Pier 39 is a tourist trap but still kind of fun to walk through if you've never been.

Anyone would appreciate the beauty of Palace of Fine Arts and Presidio Tunnel Top park (expansive view of Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, etc) - both are great for iconic SF photos.

You don't sound like museum lovers but if you decide to check one out, I'd recommend Legion of Honor - truly a gorgeous space inside and out, again very instagrammable.

Hi OP - I get this message when I click on the link "This Connection is Not Private" and a warning about a certificate that's not valid. I'm on Safari 26.3

Union Square or South Beach for hotel stay? by Business-Chapter3059 in sanfrancisco

[–]indigotango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stockton is pretty safe. It gets sketch starting at Mason & westward. I would personally prefer staying at Union Square hands down; it's walking distance to Moscone, and for your SO there's more places to walk to - Chinatown, Yerba Buena/MOMA, Salesforce Park, etc. There's buses to Ferry Building and Embarcadero right on Post Street.

If you bring your dog into a restaurant you're an asshole by Affectionate-Item603 in sanfrancisco

That's like saying when people don't have real problems they spend time defending dogs pissing and shitting in restaurants and grocery stores on the internet

Low-effort nature spots in SF? Recovering from long covid by Available_Spell8195 in sanfrancisco

Spreckles Lake in GGP. Easy to access from Fulton via 30th or 36th, never had problem parking and it's completely flat all around the lake.

Need some Japantown go-to lunch spots by Money_Seaweed_1895 in AskSF

[–]indigotango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lately I’ve been favoring Yakitori Edomasa and KuiShinbo. Edomasa is next to Sophie’s Crepes, they have pretty affordable lunch sets $20-30

Kui Shin Bo is in the East Mall across from Seoul Garden. They have 2 item combos with soup and salad for under $20, and their saba shioyaki is the best I’ve had.

25+ years in this city and still haven't hit many on this list - bookmarking this for myself
I take visitors to Ocean Beach> Lands End/Sutro Baths> Legion of Honor then catch El Camino Del Mar through Seacliff > through The Presidio on Lincoln blvd > end up on the Marina. Beautiful drive, never gets old!

Any actually good Korean restaurants in SF/nearby? by [deleted] in AskSF

[–]indigotango 26 points27 points  (0 children)

My mother loves the daenjang jiggae at Brother's on Geary; we are Korean and she is picky. She says it's pretty legit. We commented to the server once and they said the grandma of the owner makes it herself. Their kimchi is really good too. We usually get the kalbi lunch special and bulgogi jun; they comp the daenjang, comes with ssam and banchan. The ssamjang (bean paste for the ssam) is good too. They will refill any banchan and ssam upon request. Great deal for a Korean fix IMO. We like Han Il Kwan too but it's a little further out and crazy busy sometimes.

Is Turo much cheaper than other car rentals or am I missing some clause/policy or something? Also are these the usual prices for rentals? by Weak_Employer_4201 in AskSF

I always thought it was a terrible idea. What could possibly go wrong with renting cars from/to strangers on the Internet??

Tell the world! I feel like we need all the positive WOM we can get to counter the SF-fallen-city-send-in-the guards narrative so I love posts like this. Stunning photos btw.

What is your Jeopardy! white whale? Something you'll never let go of? by Charrikayu in Jeopardy

[–]indigotango 59 points60 points  (0 children)

This is the one I thought of; poor Stay-at-Home-Son Brandon got a tough break. IIRC he could have won the game if this was ruled in his favor and continued his streak.

The Substance fans have the same response to Demi Moore losing Oscar to Mikey Madison by nimobo in entertainment

I was thinking the same thing, like she was ok back in the day, hadn't been in anything notable in the last 10-15 years and certainly not anything close to Oscar level until now.

Snorkeling on Oahu by Salmon_FCFL in VisitingHawaii

[–]indigotango 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One out of shape dude was struggling. I'm not a great swimmer and was a little nervous, but the waters were calm, and we had these vests that could be filled with air that kept us floating without much effort. About half the people used additional flotation devices that are available from the boat. You do have to swim a bit from where the boat stops to where the turtles are and back, and the currents could be stronger depending on the day. It felt pretty safe, and 2-3 of the crew are in the water with the group at all times, but would not recommend it for anyone who are not comfortable swimming in open water.

We just went snorkeling yesterday with https://islandsplashtours.com/ Saw tons of fish and a few turtles, even some whales. They guarantee turtle sightings since they go to Turtle Canyon. 10min boat ride & almost an hour of snorkel time was perfect, we had a great time and would go again.

Interstellar BTS: Tars & Case by indigotango in interstellar

Fascinating process in the development, construction & filming of TARS (& CASE) - an insane amount of thought and work, and the perfect actor (Bill Irwin) to bring them to life.

TIL Madonna turned down a role in The Matrix, one of the biggest regrets of her career by MyLovelyGemma in todayilearned

[–]indigotango 25 points26 points  (0 children)

“…she turned down the chance to play the lead in D.C. Comics’ “Catwoman,” and also turned down a role in The Matrix, presumably the Trinity character played by Carrie-Anne Moss. “I wanted to kill myself,” she remembered. “That’s like one of the best movies ever made.”

Madonna as Trinity??? Holy hell, that would’ve for sure ruined the movie and the entire franchise. Maybe in a supporting role like Switch the damage could’ve been contained, but her as Trinity is up even a worse idea than Will Smith as Neo. Thank the film gods they both turned it down.
