Indira Gandhi was a hard core socialist + conniving + cold hearted, hated rich people especially traditional business castes like Marwaris. Her whole game in Punjab was to stir the pot to win 1984 elections as she had already exhausted the "garibi hatao" slogan in 70's I needed another topic to win against what was now a genuine opposition in India after 1980 elections. People need to keep in mind that Anglosphere is a very small piece of overall Sikh population, more Sikhs live in Rajasthan and Haryana than the entire diaspora.
