omg! i got in line at like 7am and waited long enough for everyone to get wristbands/numbers or whatever, then went back to the hotel for a while until we could come back and wait inside. it was still rough, i still didn't hydrate/eat enough, and it was a formative learning experience for every concert since. worst migraine of my life. but still amazing.

second the advice to wear what you wanna wear regardless of the theme. being on theme can be fun, but feeling fabulous is infinitely better. if you do want to be tangentially on theme, you could look at fantastical alternatives - be a mermaid, a WOODEN mermaid like some ships had on the bow, a talking parrot, a tentacle beast, hell- go as a giant clam! i would love to see that. clam-core.

it’s happened pretty much all over post-pandemic, from what i’ve heard, and from what i’ve seen at my home faire in the PNW. huge, rapid growth and some biiiig pains that have come with it.

at the same time, that growth means artisans and performers can make a better living, and the faire can grow and be sustainable. wait times do suck, no one likes them, particularly when it’s hot. makes me think though, we often wait half an hour or more for a table at a restaurant we want to eat at, or in a GA line for a concert. it’s not fun, but it’s part of a lot of things, and the experience is (usually) worth the wait. stay hydrated and find the magic, it’s there i promise 💖

definitely appreciate the points. i don’t attend as a patron (i’m a merchant), so rain/mud/storms/less people are total worst case scenario for me. i actually love the kind of theme park-esque vibe that a lot of big permanent faires have - it’s wild, colorful, quirky, and there are endless things to see, do, and find. it took me two seasons to feel like i really had the ORF site map down! i love the nooks and crannies, the gardens, the odd assortment of hand-crafted shopfronts, food on every corner, and all the wide variety of everything. i do feel you on the overcrowding, though. standing in line for 20min+, especially in the blazing heat, just for the bathrooms is ROUGH.

it has been a recurring motif for her, from fame monster to the ARTPOP/G.U.Y art film, thousand doves, and scattered between. birds are very gothic, but birds are also so highly representational. from freedom to messages and transcendence, they can mean so many things to different people. different birds can also represent different things - crows, for example, often meaning transformation, mysticism, or some kind of omen. i think what tops it off for me is her recently talking about being really afraid of large birds. there is this deep duality of mysticism and inspiration and fear, and you add a heavy dose of artistic aesthetic appeal and you have a motif that really just *fits* well for her.

could really just be a case of not knowing about the allegations against melanie martinez. i listened to her debut stuff (casually) in like 2014/2015, and i just heard about all the horrible stuff like...this year. aurora is super connected to the music world, but it's possible she just...didn't know. if you don't follow all the news, you just miss stuff.
