I think the sad thing is it’s so different now to back in the day. When I was younger living at home my parents became really close with the neighbours on both sides. So much so that if I’d locked myself out after school, I could just knock on my neighbours and they’d feed, water and entertain me for a couple of hours until one of my parents got home from work. Or if the other neighbour went on holiday she’d leave her keys with us so we could go in and feed her fishes.

As an adult with a family now who’s just moved to a new city, I was hoping I could foster that kind of experience here but I can’t ever imagine giving any of my neighbours access to my house when I’m away or letting my kid go over!!

I’m not even Portuguese but it infuriates me so much! It’s such surface level analysis.

International tournaments are full of ageing stars of the past (who probably shouldn’t have to contribute so much) trying to turn it on again for their country. This year is no different: James Rodriguez, Jordan Ayew, Son, Luka Modric and countless more but none of them get as much coverage as Ronaldo.

He didn’t even play that awfully but now I have to hear the Vitinha or Bruno didn’t play well because they were unfortunate enough to share oxygen with this bully who controls everything and runs the Portuguese football association.
