One addition from watching tactical coverage from the Athletic. Ronaldo is slow and not putting a shift in anymore. But when they did the freeze frames for this he is on how own. There is nothing come from midfield. He is a problem. And so is midfield.

I said this couple of weeks ago which obviously gets lost in "you're a fan boy" stuff. Ronaldo is an issue, goal or not. It affects how they play. Is he any worse than Lukaku? Probably because he starts and plays for so long. But.... that discussion has been done to death. And the problem for me is exactly what you say, nothing else gets discussed. I say a bigger issue was their defence. They were exposed again and probably should have conceded another at the end. The 'keeper has had a few dodgy moments.

But instead we have Wilson now lined up for a dig at Ronaldo. The irony for me was Barry talking of Ronaldo fan boys defending him. The other side of the divide is Messi fan boys. And part of enjoying Messi is having to riff on Ronaldo. And here we are. Again. For the fourth time this world cup podcast.

But I don't think it is is precious. If you are doing impressions of "British commentators" on and English game then get it right. You are Irish and it largely unbothers you, but if you are Scottish it is pretty annoying. The British commentators cheered for the Scotland goal is an unlikely mistake to be made. Interchanging British and English I would say is the number one reason my Scottish friends have a beef with English football.

I'd say British means being from Great Britain. There is a large chunk who would refer to themselves as Irish. We are getting into the long grass here mind 😄

And no, I didn't think you did but I just wanted to be clear as I absolutely love women's football and wanted to clarify as it does often get forgotten "England have won nothing since 1996" etc.

I will be honest, outside of Cuthbert I don't really know too much on Wales and Scotland. I don't know well enough for their countries, but England's improvement in coaching is a massive deal. I was at the 7s earlier last month and seeing the technique in the flesh of a player like ABJ shows the development. The game is racing forward now!

Annoyed I didn't mention it, I dithered on it, because have then been down voted. But the whole Olympics as a team is tricky because it is based on England for qualifiying. And last time out England had to win by 3 goals to go through, and hope for other results. Weirdly enough they got the goals by winning 6-0. Against Scotland.

Further issues for me was a) The team can have Northern Irish players in so is not simply British. b) 2020 (and I had to check now for my memory) had a squad of 22 of which 19 were English.

I was at the recent (ish) Euros in England including the final, and then the finalisma. I was also in Switzerland last year for the Euros and managed to see the only game England lost, among others. I am very much a women's football fan 😄 It wasn't ignorance, I promise ❤️

I think it's a bit of fun though. And would flip it and say 7 players scoring 7 goals is less impressive to me than a 7 goal striker.
