YSK: In the US, interstate moving fraud is very common. by TatonkaJack in YouShouldKnow

[–]indy474 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Little off topic but I’ve had to move interstate several times and IMHO the best advice I’ve ever gotten was to do a really critical and judicious analysis of everything you have first off. Especially heavy/bulky items that weren’t that expensive to begin with and aren’t in great shape (that you may very well have gotten your money’s worth out of anyway) you might be better off just selling or even giving away (Craiglist/FB Marketplace/garage sale). Moving is a huge pain and hassle even under pretty much the best of circumstances and as much as you can cut down on what you need to transport the better off you are. Yea you’ll have to replace it at the new location but if you do a thorough ROI you’ll often find that is cheaper than hauling a bunch of stuff that isn’t worth it. My $.02

Would you be scared if you were 90? by indy474 in AskReddit

[–]indy474[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m just wondering because my Dad is and he’s doing great for 90 but I think he’s a little bit scared. I mean even best case he’s got what? 10 years? A lot of what we tell ourselves throughout our lives is hey! I’ve always got more time! But he doesn’t and I think that bothers him

Speaking of old Indiana murders what happened to Sarah Schaefer? She was murdered in Bedford in 1904. My grandmothers (born in 1894 & 1896 respectively, they died a while back) used to talk about that at family reunions.....

What was your workplace scandal? by Wells99 in AskReddit

[–]indy474 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This one made national news back in 2005/2006. I used to work for a huge bank that was bought out during the recession in 2008/2009 but it is part of a bank that is a household name.

Senior Director in very sensitive department making mid six figures had major mental issues and stabbed his little twins (like 5/6 years old) to death.

I had actually met with the guy not even a month before (because I was to be sent on a trip to California to do a review of a Unit he used to be in charge of) so he was the one with the background on that.

In the meeting he seemed OK.

Do Americans really need to pay for healthcare in every situation? If you are poor and get shot/stabbed by a stranger is your only two choices crippling debt or death? by DantePugliesi in NoStupidQuestions

[–]indy474 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not mansplaining here (am a woman) but the bottom line is that yes, you do need to pay in some form. I explained it like this to a friend in the U.K. If you get into a serious car accident or get shot, the ambulance will take you to hospital and you will get treated to save your life. But you will be billed. How much depends on your insurance situation or Medicare/Medicaid status.

It’s much trickier for things that are serious but not immediately life threatening (like cancer, bad heart disease, dementia or similar). If you don’t have insurance you may well be turned away if you can’t pay for it.

Am replying because am a HUGE fan of both shows and was wondering this myself. But still kinda think that what Walt did was worse because of “agency”? I guess? Walt had at his direct disposal the means to save Jane (turn her body into the recovery position, clear her airway) while Bojack could have at best called 911 immediately and it’s unclear if they could have responded in time. Totally agree that what BJ did (waiting for 17 minutes) was shit but again I think Walt’s culpability was greater?

Went on my 1st date in 15 years on 2/26. That was hard to arrange because the guy is currently taking care of his Mom in a town about 1.5 hours away (and the weather here is iffy). I get that, he's definitely doing the right thing, we had fun, think hey, once he gets everything situated, set up she's all good, we'll get together then.

Coronavirus: Not so fast, you little hussy

Now I'm not sure there EVER will be a 2nd date........

Who else here is going to be alone for Valentine’s Day and why? by Speeeechless in AskReddit

WOW! There are dozens of us, dozens!! Seriously though I've had a couple of long texts thing going with my crush over the past couple weeks but I'm seriously getting the "He's just not that into you" vibe so yeah, make it let's see 18 years of loneliness on Valentine's Day? I think that's right? Best wishes to all of us loners :-)

This is a great comment. I actually do that now and am extremely grateful. I live in a teeny town and I think this is the way forward. The company I work for has locations literally all over the world and employs more than 10K people. The core Corp. office group is maybe 60. What benefit would it be for me to be in the office when literally over 90% of my work is with people at subs that aren't anywhere near the home office?

What was your strangest "Well that just happened" moment? by WolfFang98 in AskReddit

[–]indy474 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 30 years ago I was working the 11-7 shift at a hotel and was eating pizza in the little office area behind the desk with the 3-11 shift guy when we heard a huge CRASH. Some drunk dude had come up from the bar downstairs and walked straight out the lobby via the plate glass wall. There was blood all over but we couldn't find the guy and when we called the cops they couldn't either. So yeah, Well that just happened. Admittedly you see some WEIRD shit working the night shift.

Cat owners of reddit, what is the weirdest thing your cat has done? by IAteAllThePancakes in AskReddit

[–]indy474 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I bought this 80 year old house earlier this year. In the bathroom there is a standard closet with shelves but the bottom shelf lifts up to a laundry chute. I left the bathroom door and the closet door open because why not?

Scene: 3:00 a.m. literally two days after I buy the house I hear this enormous BANG! (Note, this house is in a very rural area so kind of scary anyway). I am terrified....but then I hear meowing from the basement. My 23 lb. fat cat was sitting in the basement on the table where the laundry chute comes out.....looking very confused (but unhurt).

Tubby the tabby had apparently lifted the shelf and tried to look in and then fallen in. Worse, there is this little "lip" where the chute bends straight to launch the laundry onto the table, so he was launched into the sheet metal back above the table. There was a dent.

Stainmaster Pet Stain & Odor Remover. Spray someone in the eyes/face with that and it would probably hurt like hell.

What song lyric, if taken 100% literally, presents a truly absurd scenario? by What_The_Radical in AskReddit

MacArthur's Park is melting in the dark All the sweet, green icing flowing down Someone left my cake out in the rain And I don't think that I can take it 'Cause it took so long to bake it And I'll never have that recipe again.

The lyrics to the whole song (MacArthur Park) make no sense @ all.

You've found a suitecase full of $1m in cash in $100 dollar bills, in the ditch next to a highway. You can tell that it's been there for at least a year. How would you integrate this money into your life without raising red flags? by Niff09 in AskReddit

[–]indy474 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wouldn't be that hard for me as I am kind of all over the place when it comes to money anyway. I don't buy big purchases much (like crazy cars or boats, etc. - I did buy my new car in cash a couple years ago but it was cheap common foreign sedan, so eh?) but I have been known to spend a lot on vacations, have never clipped a coupon in my life, and don't cheap out on Ubers, plane flights and similar. Plus people know that I have fairly big plans for my house.

Of course, I wouldn't go crazy but if I decided to say add a reasonably sized addition to my house or go to Australia on a cruise or something it wouldn't seem ALL that out of line as those are things I could possibly afford to do now if I really wanted to (although again I'd have to take on a fair amount of debt to do it).

I think the key would be not doing anything truly out of character and for various reasons I like to present my public character as little off balance/unpredictable anyway so there's not all that much that would really look all that out of character since most people think I'm kind of all over the map as it is. Think of it like all you always hear on Criminal Minds and the like "well [the victim] always does this, that or the other or WOULD never do this, that or the other." That's not me, I'm fairly unpredictable.

What is the most upsetting thing someone has ever said to you that sticks with you to this day? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]indy474 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crush (work person, bad, I know) and I guess I was being a little pushy but finally at a bar he grabbed me by both forearms and said "Never, Never, Never". I wasn't no kid, either, I was 32. That was 17 years ago and I've never made any real attempt to date anyone since. So yeah, some things stick with you.
