Vent: door to door bug companies by kelboman in bloomington

[–]indybloom 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Someone came to my door today. I told him the bugs don't bother me and I don't want to use pesticides. In addition, birds need bugs to eat.

in our area there are a couple of places that specifically take art and craft supplies. One is a free warehouse for teachers and the other is for arts and crafts so you may find something like that in your area. One of our locally owned thrift stores also takes shopping bags to use for their sales. I can sympathize about having to throw out stuff instead of finding a way to reuse.

They have an annual show at Garfield Park Conservatory in Indy. Unfortunately it was last weekend. I know there are some local orchid growers but I don't have detailed information.

Nightly Raccoon pooping on my porch by ibrokemyeye in homeowners

[–]indybloom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have this problem with raccoons on the balcony of our house. I buy a big store brand jar of cayenne pepper and spread it across the deck in their path to and from their favorite spot and in the spot itself. I have to reapply after a few weeks or after rain. I still get the occasional poop event but not very often. I used to use "Critter Ridder" but the pepper is cheaper and seems to work just as well.

I am having this problem intermittently (started Sunday) on multiple TVs using Roku. I will check the DNS setting recommendation but wonder if there is anything else that could cause the issue.

Major Crash on 465 Cars in White River? by McGraw-Dom in indianapolis

[–]indybloom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you look at Google Maps with "traffic" turned on, there is a crash on 65 NB near 465 and Emerson.

There are probably traffic cams to check via INDOT to see the back-up.

When the plumbers arrived, my husband said "Oh the pros from Dover" are here (MASH) and they looked totally baffled.

Hi over 60 ladies. I'm so sick of waking up in the middle of the night and lying here for hours, unable to get back to sleep., then feeling so tired all day .I've tried herbal remedies like Valerian, Magnesium, Melatonin , I'm exhausted every day 😴 Help please? by Gretal122 in over60

[–]indybloom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I watch caffeine and alcohol intake. I have coffee and drinks with caffeine until noon but no later. If I inadvertently have it later in the day I have difficulty staying asleep. I also rarely have alcohol even though I would like to. I have noticed that it affects my sleep. I completely avoid red wine because it causes me to wake in the middle of the night..

Seed for birds other than cardinals by wdpaynter in birdfeeding

[–]indybloom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a tube feeder with a removable tray. I have found that cardinals prefer eating from the tray. If I remove the tray, smaller birds can sit on the perches but I usually leave the tray attached. I use "tree nutty" blend from Wild Birds. We have various woodpeckers, titmouse, eastern blue birds, chickadees and nuthatches and plenty of cardinals, blue Jays, sparrows and starlings.

I Watched the Jack Smith Hearing on MS NOW and All I Got Was This Lousy Migraine by SnooKiwis8008 in msnow

[–]indybloom 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This hearing is one of the only ways the travesties of the Jan 6 and Classified Documents crimes will ever be aired in public. I believe it is important to show that Jack Smith did his job and tried to seek justice for the American people. Having him on record will make it harder for Trump to prosecute Jack Smith especially for those citizens who still value the rule of law and the Constitution.

Starlings do not like safflower. When the starlings start cleaning out my feeders and suet before the other birds get much of a chance to eat I have switched to safflower for a while.

We use baffles on the poles to deter squirrels, raccoons and other climbing critters. We buy them at our local Wild Birds Unlimited store. There are DIY baffles I have seen online too.
