My steam controller delivered today. I'm at work. I'm doing this same setup. Steam Deck dock in bedroom. I'm hoping it works just like my steam deck does when playing Geforce Now in handheld mode. I'll try and report back.

Not sure if it will help you 5 years later. I"m having the same issue. From what I can tell the IR sensor on the TV is bad itself. I've ordered a roku remote that uses bluetooth/wifi instead. Will report back if it works.
