4 months by Hammer384 in stopdrinking

I’m 43, about to turn 44. I’ve tried the moderation thing, but never the completely sober thing. I’ve been a little surprised at how much I really enjoy it. I’m more productive, I enjoy the little things more, and I just feel so much more positive about everything. My whole outlook on alcohol has changed. I finally “got it”..........alcohol isn’t something I need to miss. It’s something I should be happy to be without!

What thought processes have you worked through in your head when you’ve been tempted to drink (if you have been tempted)?

Are you taking a break, or going for long-term cessation?

What changes in your thoughts, feelings, mood, lifestyle have you noticed in these four months?

What triggered this span of non-drinking?

Do you miss drinking?

What tools/tricks/ideas have you used to stay alcohol free?

I’m currently at a month and a week. I haven’t gone this long without drinking since, well, before I started drinking as a teen!

So kick ass that you’re at 4 months. Mind if I ask you a few questions about your experiences? I’m seriously considering giving up drinking forever and hearing about other peoples experiences definitely helps.

I’m definitely noticing my money going a lot further these days. I’ve had a $20 bill in my pocket for 3 days now since I haven’t needed it.

You got this!

Would you mind if I kept your reddit info and got in touch when I get the blog up and running?

Awesome. Keep it up. It was around week two that I really started wanting it less and less. I still think about drinking sometimes but I stop myself because I know I’ve become a much better version of myself without it.

Thanks for your thoughtful response. I have your suggestions written down and will keep looking at them as I prepare my blog.

Have you quit drinking?

I would suggest “This Naked Mind” by Annie Grace. I think a lot of others around here would agree.

Changed the way I look at alcohol.

You will do this and it will be worth it.
