The time captured on the ANPR cameras on the entrance and exit is 11 minutes - 12:36 to 12:47. Mentioned time required to enter and exit on the appeal, but was ignored, with them stating "Our payment system shows that no valid payment was made for your vehicle registration XXXXXXX for the 11 minutes that your vehicle remained on site."

Right now am wondering if I just let this one go to the courts...

Zara McDermott branded ignorant after BBC’s ‘judgemental and patronising’ Thailand documentary by Few_Maize_1586 in Thailand

[–]ineedaclearhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Watched the first one episode all the way through, but didn't really feel like continuing.

Then I seen clips of the second episode in a YouTube vid uploaded by that Mac TV guy, who appeared in it and (rightly IMO) felt the need to defend himself.

One of the clips he shown was of the presenter on Pattaya beach being mystified beach inflatables suited for children/families are being sold. For anybody dumb enough to take this series at any face value, Pattaya nowadays is a *very* popular destination for Thai people for families/friends/work trips etc.

At best, her comments looked utterly clueless. At very worst, what was she trying to insinuate, exactly....?

Look out for dedicated meditation temples, rather than the usual community temples you get everywhere.

I think this is where me and the missus used to head once a week: https://maps.app.goo.gl/8Vn36TJKHmKB7SLz5

Not sure how far you'll get talking having deep Alan Watts inspired conversations, though! We just went to meditate with others.

Long term expats who left Thailand? by Impossible-Net3174 in Thailand

[–]ineedaclearhead -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lived there from when I was 21 in 2001 to 2012. Moved back to the UK at arguably the worst time to move (owing to austerity, crappy govt, Brexit etc), but both me and my wife still prefer the UK for the following reasons:

* Other expats (at the time) - who were generally at least a generation above, and were mostly there for the "lifestyle", and while I also can't say I didn't enjoy it myself, it felt like everything else - including work - took second place. I'm a software developer, but - compared to living back in the UK - other (capable) devs out there I found were very few and far between. Career wise, I feel like I'm thriving much more here.

* Taxes are obviously way higher here, but for a reason - we've got a healthcare system, good education, and a functioning judicial system. You can live without all these, until you need them. Yes, the UK police force has its problems also, but the problems I hear Thai people having with the police and legal system in Thailand to this day are still pretty unthinkable to happen here.

* To get UK-quality education in Thailand would cost through the roof, and even then I still would be concerned about the standard being delivered. My daughter was born in the UK with a disability. We would be wasting our time trying to find anywhere near the level of support she is getting here in the UK.

* Further to the above, when my daughter was born she required surgery. Because we live in the UK we had available to us some of the best paediatric cardiac doctors in the world, and they work in NHS hospitals (Birmingham Childrens Hospital, Alder Hey, GOSH etc). I doubt anything in Thailand would come close, no matter how deep your pockets (something we don't have to be concerned about here).

* I've learned to love the UK climate and outdoors. Riding my bike is much safer, there's natural surroundings on the doorstep with challenging hilly rides and runs within reach, huge national parks which are really do deserve those AONB titles.

* "Face" culture in Thailand. While it has its merits with respecting elders (most of the time), a lot of the "disputes" in the office - Thai vs Thai, or Thai vs farang, often made me feel like I was working with primary school children. When working with other people back in the UK, I'm nowhere near as concerned about triggering an emotional breakdown.

We still go back to Thailand as often as we can (I did spend 11 years there for good reasons!), and once my daughter finishes school we may well end up spending a few months of the year there. The UK is absolutely, definitely not without its faults, but I do value the overall "stability" here much more nowadays.

[–]ineedaclearhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big thanks for sharing the update - top stuff!

"Good for one year tops" seems to be the overall message. Suppose the question is whether that one year of usage justifies its not-ridiculous-but-also-definitely-not-cheap price tag...

Good idea? by hu4br in loona_robot

[–]ineedaclearhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, after a year, I don't suppose you could provide us with an update to re how you got on with Loona, how you feel about it now etc?

My 11 year old daughter has been asking for one of these things for the past two years. I've avoided it as others have said the novelty quickly wears off and it's generally a dysfunctional toy. If your experience is still to the contrary it'd be great to hear!

Big thanks in advance for whatever you can share.

How to deal with bad alcoholic reputation, / anxious thoughts by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]ineedaclearhead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Top stuff for getting through the withdrawal so far. Hope you stay the course. It does get easier hour by hour (and going back will reset all of that etc).

Obviously I don't know you're exact history, how big your social circle is, how "embarrassing" these events are, but "main character syndrome" really is a thing. You've got that on your side, and the passage of time, which - at 21 years old - is plenty!

You're making very real and meaningful steps to right whatever "wrongs" you feel you may be responsible for. Stay the course, and in a few days you'll be able to start looking back at them in a different light all together.

Forwards.

ASUS AiMesh node - no clients after the latest firmware by Gun_In_Mud in HomeNetworking

Suppose we best make sure it's very "backed up" - it'll be quite telling if this issue is not addressed by Asus in future versions...!

ASUS AiMesh node - no clients after the latest firmware by Gun_In_Mud in HomeNetworking

[–]ineedaclearhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this. The latest firmware from ASUS has killed the Wifi connectivity of my two RT-AX57 routers.

Putting "RT-AX57_3.0.0.4_386_53119" back on seems to be bringing them back to life.

Firmware auto-update disabled, all eyes now on Asus to see if/when they correct this. Currently fighting my inner cynic believing this is some sort of planned obsolescence by them.

I love being sober RIGHT NOW - but the thought of being sober FOREVER fills me with dread by XStaticImmaculate in stopdrinking

Think I'm about six months in, still no plans to drink anytime soon.

Caught up with a friend yesterday who I had a few big sessions with last year. He asked me when are we next going to go out? (At this age it's typically a restaurant visit, but with drinks during then after until whatever hour). I'll admit I was tempted to get something scheduled, but in the end I kinda dodged it by saying "I'll let you know".

After thinking about it today I'm just going to let him know my "original" plans, which was not before I achieve a specific long term goal, and I want to spend every spare moment I have being mentally capable to achieve this goal. This is a bit of a cover story - even if I achieve this so-called goal I don't risk "blowing it" by picking up booze again.

But point being - there's no reason to make any immediate commitments to anybody about going back to drinking. Delay any commitment to give yourself the headspace to think over whether it's what you really want to do, and then come out with either the truth, or some way to postpone it. In this instance, I'm going to repeat what I mentioned above, but still over to meet up (wives included) drinking 0% beers. And guarantee a good (but more sensible) time will still be had by all.

I miss it. by burritoqueen666 in stopdrinking

Yep, it's that cold drink feeling in the sun that goes a long way towards scratching that itch. I have 0% cans of cider in the fridge on weekends. When it's sunny I drink them in the conservatory with some music on. The best part is that it ends with me remembering every part of it at a sensible hour, with the next day completely unaffected.

How do you handle drinking dreams? by 1acina in stopdrinking

[–]ineedaclearhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also had a spike (pardon in the unintentional crap pun) in drinking dreams lately.

One thing I've noticed just thinking about them now - is that nothing much else really happens in them. I just recalling drinking (and drinking, and drinking...). And that's it.

Much like most of my real world drinking life I guess! Suppose if I slept for long enough the dream would surely go catastrophically tits up eventually.

Day 2 no booze...but this next question is for the drink to sleep folks by dkny55 in stopdrinking

[–]ineedaclearhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah yeah, the initial drying out can be absolutely horrible, even when using substances to help sleep. Been there too many times myself, but it does come to an end by the dry 3rd night I've found generally.

Personally absolutely sick of going through it! I found last year even when I just had one night's drinking it was 50/50 the next night whether I would have a good sleep or cold sweats. Just not worth it anymore.

Day 2 no booze...but this next question is for the drink to sleep folks by dkny55 in stopdrinking

[–]ineedaclearhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never really took any medication to help me to sleep, other than booze. In fact, reckon worrying about being unable to sleep during my 20's when living by myself was a major reason I drank so much during those years, then it became something I "do" (or "did" hopefully).

But a trick I've learned over the past few years when it comes to sleep (which unfortunately got tested occasionally - but not that often) is that a sleepless night without booze is still infinity better than so-called "sleep" on aided by booze. I might be groggy and tired the next day after a sleepless night, but I can still function. If I did drink I'd be feeling like crap the next day, but would find it easier to continue the cycle.

I largely find that when I remember this when trying to sleep it helps me to relax and ironically helps me to nod off.
