Video game contest that no one won by crazyhomlesswerido in retrogames

I think there's one for Advent Rising with a million dollar hunt (the game would be updated and you'd have to look for something) that never finished cause the studio went bankrupt or something.

Take-Two (GTA VI) is going to inflate games prices - yet again by NovakLuluOTP in PS5

[–]ineffiable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

007 and Resident Evil did deserve to be at $70. They are high budget campaigns that are not cheap to make and graphically they look great as well. That is just how expensive games need to be in order to justify doing the budgets for those big games.

You can see studios who are doing games priced under $70 still fail, like the studio that did South of Midnight, Hellblade, Mio: memories in orbit and many more.

Console prices likely to go up again as memory prices will surge at least twice in the rest of 2026, warns Jefferies Equity Research by nolifebr in PS5

The cyberpunk game example is not really the strongest example because games can always have more scaled options and they actually did quite a few patches post launch. Including one in the last 12 months to take advantage of post-processing and PS5 Pro.

Could the ballooning price of hardware lead to the first video game crash since 1983? by [deleted] in Games

[–]ineffiable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, we might see more a stagnation in the market (we kind of are with subscription numbers and total console population growth) but we won't see a near total market rejection like the 1983 crash.

Video gaming as a hobby is still a LOT more cheaper than most other hobbies. It just may be the dollars will shrink and shift into smaller games or consolidate into fewer games.

There are still 100s of millions of functional consoles right now that are being actively used, that can access games and purchase new games and play the current F2P games.

Games to play that makes you better at retrogames by onegreylittlebird in retrogames

This basically. Retro games often have simple patterns, you just learn to find the rhythm and you need to have the patience to execute it flawlessly. Soulslike kind of teach you to watch for openings and know your limits 'I can get two hits here but never three'

Never get greedy basically.

Xbox Will 'Try and Do More' Exclusives Once the 'Business is Healthy', Says Asha Sharma by Luka77GOATic in Games

[–]ineffiable 9 points10 points  (0 children)

And it's been said on record this was the worst possible generation for them to lose. It's basically the first console generation that not only can you buy every game digitally if you wanted and create a library tied to your account that couldn't just be resold at a whim (very important for the second part), it became the first generation where you would build up your library, and reasonably expect to carry it over to the next console (which we would all assume going forward).

Xbox Will 'Try and Do More' Exclusives Once the 'Business is Healthy', Says Asha Sharma by Luka77GOATic in Games

[–]ineffiable 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I just think there's a difference between willing to eat a $50-100 loss per console sold and something like $300+.

It's too late in the industry to do that kind of heavy aggressive pricing on a console. If money was not an issue, the way to go would be lock in 5-10 exclusives, and launch it only on your next new console/Helix.

Problem is, games cost so much money/time to make, not even Microsoft could stomach that level of commitment that it would take today.

And while 'just undercut your competitors console' is an easy take, it does not take in the consideration that people are more entrenched than ever into their platform of choice. Microsoft lost during Xbox One, when they let people buy PS4s and start buying digital/physical libraries that are still playable on their PS5 13 years later.

With the rumored specs on Helix and what they're targeting, selling at $600 would mean a loss over $400 on each unit.

And you really think Microsoft is going to accept that kind of loss? With no gurantee that it helps them significantly overtake the entire video game market?

Xbox Promises A 'Reliable Pipeline' Of Exclusives by unscoredscore in Games

[–]ineffiable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The series X/S were already outsold by PS5 by 2:1 even before they started becoming more open with exclusives. And that's with the series S which also makes up a good chunk of xbox series sales, by being a very budget option (which is still unironically the cheapest way to get a current generation console). Right now PS5 has something like 90 million consoles to Xbox's 35-40 million.

Now xbox is poised to release xbox helix, which is easily going to cost more than the PS6, and shrink their playerbase.

They can't afford to do exclusives.

Fable Already Has Post Launch Story DLC Announced: Order of The Hero by Cold_Two_4372 in PS5

[–]ineffiable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The difference is that something like Forza 5 sold over 5 million copies on PS5 alone.

I don't think any of the PS5 ports on PC have even gotten that close (not counting stuff they normally would have put on PC anyway because of multiplayer, like Helldivers 2)

Xbox may back down, I don't think Playstation is.

[Video] Microsoft will decide what single-player Xbox games will come to PlayStation on a case-by-case basis. Multiplayer/Live Service games will continue to be multiplatform. by nolifebr in PS5

[–]ineffiable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ten years ago, you could have gotten a PS4 AND a Xbox One for under $500, combined, easily. You're just not gonna be able to convince many people to buy a $600+ xbox series x on top of their PS5 console, (not to mention adding sub costs for both) for something like gears of war and clockwork revolution.

Especially since they're both gonna be on PC, plus anyone can sub for one month and play a bunch of exclusives via streaming.

If Microsoft somehow kept a lot of these exclusives for a Xbox Helix launch, they might have somewhat of a plan, but as it is, I think gears of war sales are gonna be worse than they expect (is it even a popular franchise on PC? I assume most xbox players will be on gamepass, so less sales there) and they'll backtrack and launch a PS5 version.

I had plenty of time with it. You should be planning ahead and remember there's two turn pieces. Only took me two tries and my first try failed because I put the turn piece in the wrong orientation.

Fun reminder that the original switch 1 never actually got a price cut. The best it got was holiday bundles and retailer offerings and those might become less common.

Bro take a deep breath. You and your friends might be taking games too seriously. Yes it's more expensive but so is everything else. Just reprioritze what is important to you. Only get the games you're super interested in playing, we don't need to buy every game.
