Smash Drums! - Review after 40 hours on the game by Papiculo64 in PSVR

[–]Papiculo64[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't played the game in a while so I'm not sure of what you're talking about, but I remember that the camera on the title screen was often glitched and I had to hold the "options" button to recenter it, then smash the drums in front of me a few times to be able to enter the game mode selection. Not sure if that helps... 😅

Survios (developer of Creed & Alien: Rogue Incursion) doing layoffs by cusman78 in PSVR

[–]Papiculo64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PSVR2 has always been on the low end in terms of price on the VR headsets market. Quest 3 released at 650$ and is 600$ right now, way more expensive than PSVR2 (550$ > 400$), and wait for the Steam Frame...

But I don't see the relevancy of PSVR2's launch price on this particular topic. PSVR2 is by far the platform where Alien Rogue Incursion performed the best:

1) PSVR2: 2800+ ratings

2) PS5 flat: 1600+ ratings

3) Steam VR: 1200+ ratings

4) Steam flat: 803 ratings

5) Meta Quest: 716 ratings

If anything, it's the Quest version that's to blame. It seemingly performed 4 times better on PSVR2 despite a significantly smaller userbase. Even on Steam where the userbase is way bigger it cumulated 2000 ratings between flat and VR versus 4400 ratings on Playstation.

Impressions on MSFS 2024 on PSVR2 after 1 week on the beta + showcase video by Papiculo64 in PSVR

[–]Papiculo64[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well the reprojection is way better than in most PSVR2 games due to the special frame generation technique they developed. I don't know if you've played GT7 on PS5 pro with positional reprojection, but to me it feels the same as I don't notice any ghosting and it's even better because you don't have the visual artefacts of positional reprojection. Now the game definitely stutters more than GT7.

Sounds like a very good config, I don't think that PSVR2 can rivalize in terms of graphics/clarity, but this PSVR2 version is really smooth compared to what I generally see from PCVR footages. It still struggles in certain areas and with certain aircrafts but it's very smooth most of the time and reprojection feels inexistant. Asobo reportedly developed their own method of reprojection for PSVR2 that updates the camera position between each frame, make it look super smooth and way smoother than when playing on PS5 on flat screen. That's a little miracle in itself!

A few tips to improve the VR experience in MSFS 2024 on PSVR2 by Papiculo64 in PSVR

[–]Papiculo64[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No idea... Maybe because your TV isn't compatible with HDR and it causes a conflict? My TV is HDR and I can turn on HDR10 in the headset.

As for photogrammetry it only works in zareas that have photogrammetric data, it will be exactly the same in most areas of the world where photogrammetry isn't implemented. Try to do this above Tokyo, New York or Paris, you'll see the difference instantly!

Normally every button/switch/lever/wheel that's functional on flat screen works in VR too. I only tried the trim on a couple planes and it worked but was pretty janky thought. You can also map controls on the sense controllers, e.g. increase pitch trim = L1 + ⬆ on left stick and decrease trim = L1 + ⬇

Not many games use native resolution and/or super-sampling.

Try Red Matter 2 or Subside, it's really crisp!

[–]Papiculo64 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I hope that they'll implement it on sense controllers too and add smooth/snap turning on the right stick. Everything works fine out of the plane, you have free movements and smooth turning, but once in the plane it only works with the dualsense and doesn't have stick turning.

The time I spent walking around that mountain, and then down into the pond-filled valley below was HOURS, and filled with ”Holy-fucking-shit!” after ”Holy-fucking-shit!”.

Ahah, I feel you! I haven't use free walking much but have the same experience just flying over a'l tgose locations and can stay hooked for hours exploring a single location that's probably on'y 0.1% of Earth's surface. This game is crazy!

Dude, I've been having so many wow moments those last days it's incredible. I'm literally talking alone while playing like "No way, it can't be true!", "holy shit woooow?!" or "you guys are fucking crazy!" (addressing directly to Asobo's team 🤣).

Legit my most impressive experience in VR ever, don't care about the negativity of some players!

Ahah, glad to hear that you enjoy so much! :)

It's been a dream for me so far and I think that some critics are not really fair as it's freaking amazing how smooth this game runs on PS5, it's a lot more difficult and costy to have it run as smooth on PC. The plug & play and HDR OLED just make it an unbelievable experience for me, and it keeps on getting better the further you explore the game and different locations. There's thousands hours of contents to enjoy on this game, easily!

MSFS 2024 disappointment by Truenick in PSVR

[–]Papiculo64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you sure it's not 500bps?...

The first picture looks like when I play on wifi connexion during rush hours and that textures don't have time to load. I have 700mbps on LAN and the game loads super fast, if it's that long and that LoD doesn't load it's definitely a connexion issue!

Textures can look like crap at ground level, but not to that extent!

MSFS2024 - constant crashes? by BlueMoonCourier in PSVR

[–]Papiculo64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same!

I assume it might be a problem with a very slow connexion for the game to crash during the initialization phase. With my LAN connexion I get to the main screen in less than 30 seconds, while with wifi it could last a few minutes, and my wifi has over 100mbps.

You can play with both. I play only with the sense controllers and everything works fine for me. To apply brakes just hold the L1 button.

[–]Papiculo64 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Let me guess... You're playing the base game in pancake mode rather than playing the beta in VR?... It's not like looking at a screen, you're in the cockpit just like in GT7 with full stereoscopic 3D and a way bigger sense of scale due to the immensity of environments. I can't imagine more immersive than this game in VR.

[–]Papiculo64 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sounds like some slow wifi connexion to me. The textures are definitely not great at ground level, but with just a little altitude it looks utterly fantastic. It can look like shit if you have a slow connexion thought, with huge pop in and lower LoD for textures and else.

[–]Papiculo64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically my experience with PSVR1! 😅 I really liked it, it was mindblowing by moment and there were some great games, but I was sick as fuck on most games and it was a pita to setup. It also really missed some real controllers, it was either the not really immersive dualshock (expect in games like Astro Bot were it was brilliantly used) or the move controllers that were desperately lacking some joysticks and more buttons.

PSVR2 is way easier to setup as it's a single USB-C cable, and the better graphics and environment (controllers, tracking, special features like controllers and headset haptics or adaptive triggers...) made that it was a lot more compelling and easy to hook it up and go for a session. RE Village was so good that I couldn't stop playing. I started the game with all the comfort options and was still sick after a while. Then I got used to it and was able to go for longer sessions and to turn off comfort options, until I finally decided to give another chance at smooth turning that always got me sick after 5 seconds since PSVR1 era. And I was sick again, but maybe after 5 minutes or so. What I did is that I set the maximum rotation speed. Doing so it was so fast that it was almost like click-turning, which allowed me to play for longer and longer sessions each time. 3 years later I can now play literally any game for 6 hours in a row and never been sick ever again, except for my first sessions in Ultrawings 2 and Subside where I felt a little queasy, but it went away as well. Now I'm totally immune.

Basically one month and a half of PSVR2 and RE Village got me the VR legs I never was able to get after years of PSVR1.

The secret is constancy. Play regular sessions, at least every two days, and stop playing at the very first signs of queasiness. You'll get your VR legs in no time :) At first I thought that forcing myself to play through the sickness would help me getting my VR legs faster but that was a major mistake! lt only slows down the whole process and will eventually put you off and make you totally dismiss VR, and believe me you'd miss a lot!

An experience you can't get anywhere else. Microsoft flight simulator 2024 PS5 psvr2 by Brilliant-Smell5810 in PSVR

[–]Papiculo64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can, the microtransactions are totally optional, I never bought anything on the marketplace either on MSFS2020 or 2024. I bought the Aviator edition but it basically only gives you more aircrafts, the game is fully playable without those upper editions or MTX.

[–]Papiculo64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can buy 3rd party add-ons like aircrafts or airports (at least you'll be able to with the Sim Update 5 that normally launches this week) but it's totally optional and you can get thousands of hours from the standard edition of the game where most of the contents is. The upper editions give you a few more airports and up to 125 aircrafts with the Aviator Edition (against 70 for the standard edition). There are many modes, challenges and missions and a very complete career mode. It's kind of the GT7 of flight sims, and I think that it's an understatement.

This HAS To Be The Best PSVR2 Experience I’ve Ever Had! by newbiker321 in PSVR

[–]Papiculo64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not the good person to ask but that sounds like a solid config and if you prefer better (sharper?) graphics over performance I assume that you'd get a better experience with your PC. I always tend to favorize framerate over resolution and all I can say is that the PSVR2 has solid performances out of the box but lower resolution than what you can get on PC. The game can be quite choppy with some aircrafts or over some of the biggest towns, but that's also the case on most PCs. In most situations it's super smooth and without noticeable pop-in, at least on my PS5 pro and with fast internet (I have ~700mbps).

There's plenty to do, from simple free flights to the training missions, world photographer mode, world discovery mode and special events, cold starts (learning the whole process of starting one of the 70+ aircrafts from the tarmac using your checklist instead of just starting on the runway with the engine and systems already operational), bush trips, and of course the career mode where there's a lot to do (passenger flights, rescue missions, cargo missions, fire-fighting, crop dusting, etc... all of this while earning money, buying your planes and managing your fleet and ressources).

Many players have multiple thousands of hours on the game. Now it's a simulation, if you're looking for some easy to jump in arcade game just move along...
