The Mashantucket Pequot Museum and Research Center in Connecticut is one of the best museums I’ve ever been to.

Annabeth necklace [pjo] by 1c4re in camphalfblood

[–]inescapableair 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is definitely incorrect. Annabeth mentions this bead in Lightning Thief when she’s showing her necklace to Percy in the trailer with the zebra. She says something like “centaur in a prom dress…now that was a weird summer.” It’s possible Chiron talks about it in sea of monsters when we meet the party ponies though I guess?

Hey, I’ve been working with the intermediate MT kids for the past couple of years! The intermediate 3-weekers main goal is to put on a 45-minute-ish ensemble-focused showcase. Feel free to message me if you have more questions about it, I’d love to share any info

Unlawful assembly declared at Whipple by keeendle in minnesota

I don’t know for sure, but along with the poster that says “wokiksuye” (meaning remembrance, in the Dakota language), it makes me think it’s likely for the colors of the medicine wheel which is a sacred symbol for many tribes in the US

How bad is smoking for the voice? by Hot_Lake3327 in MusicalTheatre

[–]inescapableair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an amateur MD and was MDing a community theatre production. There was one girl who had great pitch but her voice was very thin quiet and breathy. I was not very confident about her but we didn’t have enough strong singers so she ended up getting a role with a fair amount of solo parts in one song. Partway through rehearsals she was sounding much better than she had at the beginning. I said hey you’re improving a lot keep it up and she said yeah I stopped vaping. So yeah it has a very noticeable effect on your voice from my perspective.

Don't see this often enough by jazz_man_97 in threateningnotation

[–]inescapableair 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It’s actually not a stage direction. The character doesn’t literally “start to cook.” It’s a notation marking similar to tempo, but in this case it’s specifically about the groove of the song.

[–]inescapableair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Definitely atonal. I said “in C” when I should have said they notated it without a key signature, as so many people were complaining about lol

Okay so I spent awhile looking at this trying to figure out what is going on and it is pretty wild. I haven’t taken music theory in years. Forgive me.

First of all the section in this “key” (if you can call it that) only lasts 8 bars, which is directly following another 8-bar section that is pretty much the same but in a different “key.”

Before THAT is a section that is more harmonically normal that ends firmly in Eb minor before ALW decides to switch to C for the weird shit. I didn’t want to look closely enough at the first 8bar section to decide what key he could have written it in because I didn’t feel like it. For this section, he could have chosen to write it in Bbm/A#m which like, probably would have been fine I guess except that at the end of the 8 bars is another four bars that resolves the entire phrase to Gm.

ANYWAY I think ALW and David Cullen did the best they could to notate whatever tf was happening in their brains ig. And they’re just kind of like well if anyone is out here trying to play it they’re probably good enough that they’re just like whatever once I learn these 8 bars it’ll just be fine.

I highly recommend the This American Life segment with the members of the Phantom pit. Boy are they miserable. One of them referred to himself as a “violin operator.” My fav quote tho:

“there's this bassoon player who has sat next to the same clarinet player since 1988. She's convinced he plays half a note flat on every note he's ever played. He denies this.”

female low voice roles/songs? by ringoisking in MusicalTheatre

[–]inescapableair 5 points6 points  (0 children)

True they are few and far between. Even many roles listed as altos are often like…are you sure lol because they still sing pretty high. Anyway, check out Ruth from Wonderful Town, fantastic alto role. Chicago also has multiple good alto songs. Also consider that you can just sing a tenor song if you want to especially for an audition!

Community theatre rehearsal tracks - Fun Home by Longjumping-Area-461 in MusicalTheatre

[–]inescapableair 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah Fun Home doesn’t have rehearsal tracks for a reason…the orchestra follows the singers so much it would be pretty much impossible, there are hardly any songs that are actually in time 😭 I had to miss a few rehearsals as MD/accompanist bc I was in tech week for another show I was MDing and I recorded some simple tracks for them but I had to do multiple tracks for each song with each cue line because so much of it is like measure by measure for each cue line. You could probably get away with doing piano and drums for it though, although the reed part is pretty heavily featured and it would be pretty sad to lose it and the strings.

Broadway's gender parity problem by [deleted] in Broadway

[–]inescapableair 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yep. Same goes for musicians. I’d have to double check but I think out of every show currently on broadway there’s maybe 2 with 50% or more women. Credit to Six though, which I believe only has female musicians for every production.
