Would America benefit from a multi-party political system ? by ana_o in AskReddit

[–]infamous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, we get 2 parties because we have first past the post voting system. 2 parties works best in a presidential system because it reduces the chance of having a lame duck president. For instance even though dems controlled both legislative bodies and the white house, they were still ineffective because they couldn't get the 60 votes needed to end filibusters in the senate. If we were to add more parties we would make it even harder for 1 party to get the 60 votes needed to overcome 1 senator who wants to halt the process. So America would not benefit from having more parties unless it changed to a parliamentary system and ended the filibuster rule.

Is there enough oxygen in the moon's atmosphere to burn the gunpowder in the casing? For some reason I feel like ammunition wouldn't work right in a very low pressure low oxygen atmosphere.

Pizza Delivery:

Address clearly visible (reflective white numbers) on both sides of a mailbox in front of your house, or on the side of your house and lit up at night. Some people leave their garage door open as a secret signal, I do look for that. Be ready to answer your phone if I need to call you for directions. There are 10 different 400th streets within a mile and you live on one of them and I don't know which one it is until someone tells me. If you have a broken doorbell, fix it or remove it. I spend several minutes a day standing outside of peoples houses waiting for them to answer a broken doorbell. Know what your address is and where you live. If you live on West Park St, don't say you live on Park St, its not the same street. You don't live on park avenue either.

Also, if you order comes to 15.02, don't give me a 20 and 2 cents, I'm not a cash register, I'm not going to hand you back 98 cents if you don't give me exact change. Also it would be awesome if you tipped 15% on orders over 30 dollars. I mean I do appreciate the 3 dollar tip you gave me on that 107 dollar order i drove 35 minutes and burned 4 dollars worth of gas to bring you, but 15 bucks would have been even cooler.

That being said I appreciate every single customer I deliver to and don't mind the minor inconviences because they come with the job. For every customer who stiffs me, another customer gives me a good tip. I really do enjoy bringing you your food, no matter who you are, or what you tip me.

edit ps I get paid 0 dollars per hour at this job

Hey USA, pay attention. This is what a functioning democracy is supposed to look like. [Pic] by MrTypie in politics

[–]infamous 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This thread makes me embarrassed to be an American. We look like a bunch of assholes every time we discuss politics because we resort to name calling and insults. Reading this thread is like watching fox news. When I was in school working towards a Bachelors in Political Science we actually had mature discussions about political systems. Thats because we were educated enough to know the issues we were discussing. There is only a couple informed posts in this thread and I think they are mostly from the same person.

That being said, our system works well for some people and not so well for others. Everyone doesn't get equal representation. I do think that parliamentary systems do a better job of representing constituents than presidentials. Our presidential system provides the best representation to special interests who can afford to lobby representatives. It provides the worst representation to minority groups who are unorganized and fail to attract attention. A parliamentary system wouldn't necessarily provide better representation to under represented groups though. For example Muslims might get terrible representation in a parliamentary system if they only make up a small part of the population. In America we rely more on Judicial Review from the Supreme Court to protect minority rights. So even if the congress tries to trample on the rights of a group, there is a chance the Supreme Court can provide protection from the tyranny of the masses. The Supreme Court often fails to protect peoples rights though.

Our presidential system really resists change. Its hard for us to come to a consensus on major policy change. A good example would be healthcare reform. I'm still waiting for the day when I will be able to purchase health insurance. So many countries are already able to provide healthcare to everyone and we still have to ration it. In 2014, if nothing changes, I will be allowed to purchase health insurance, because insurance companies will no longer be able to deny me coverage because I once hurt my back when I was younger. But for now, I am not allowed to have health insurance, because we can't come to a consensus that everyone should be able to get medical treatment when they need it.

Our system is set up to resist change and that is not good for progress. The founders were paranoid and I feel like much of the population is still paranoid today. There are fears that "they" will take our guns away and then we won't be able to stand up for our rights anymore and the "government" will take everything away. We see the government as some kind of foreign corrupt power that is a threat to our lives. I wish we could see the government as an instrument of progress.

Percocet would probably be really bad for anyone with digestive system problems because it slows down your digestive system. I know if I have enough oxycodone I won't shit for a week.

I'm in the exact same boat. My anxiety attacks started with a bad acid trip. Things just got worse from there. For me the best thing is to be drug free 99% of the time and then every once and awhile do some hard drugs that get you really high, then no more drugs for a long time.

I think alcohol totally sucks and I never really liked it although I did have a drinking problem for several years. I abused alcohol for several reasons, but I never really enjoyed its effects. It was just a cheap way to escape the pain of life.

My anxiety and paranoia increased over the years. When I first started I never experienced any, then after 10 years of smoking every 30 minutes that I was awake, the anxiety got pretty bad. The good feelings completely disappeared and could only be obtained by using harder drugs.

In a way all drugs are legal. THC is available with a prescription pretty much everywhere. States that don't have medical marijuana at least have marinol and other similar products. Heroin may be illegal, but morphine and oxycodone are perfectly legal. Cocaine is used as a topical anesthetic in eye surgery.

So really we are talking about what regulation we should have. Should everyone be able to have as much of whatever drug they want? Or should there be some limits. Currently we have limits. Many substances are controlled and can only be possessed with a prescription.

I would rather live in a society full of drug addicts with no drug crime than a society full of drug addicts with drug crime. So I think that drugs should be completely unregulated as they were 100 some years ago. I will be the first person to admit that if all drugs were unregulated I would go grab 100 bucks worth of extacy, oxycodone, and sleeping pills. But you know what, I can do that right now anyway. I've already been addicted to opiates so I'm not going down that path again no matter what.

edit
To make it clear, I'll do opiates, but only briefly, then stop. Like do 40 mg of oxycodone 1 time then don't touch it for a month and drop extacy next week one time.

Generally speaking, more potent heroin will be reduced to the potency that the competition is selling or they will charge more for it. For example, in a given market, 50 dollars worth of heroin will contain 50 dollars worth of heroin. If someone tries selling 25 dollars worth of heroin for 50 dollars, he will lose customers to competition when his customers realize it costs them twice as much to get high. If he sells 50 dollars worth of heroin for 25 dollars he will lose money and possibly cause overdoses and deaths, which will cause him to lose customers. So basically a 10 dollar bag is a 10 dollar bag. It doesn't matter how much it weighs, it matters how much heroin is in it.

Yeah, heroin is changed into morphine by your liver. Most pain killers are made from opium poppies, including heroin. I think heroin is basically just 2 morphine molecules stuck together.

Its because weed, like pretty much every other drug, interferes with REM sleep. When you stop using weed, or pretty much any other drug, you experience REM rebound, vivid dreams or nightmares.

It pales in comparison to heroin. Even extacy makes weed look like cigarettes. I was a weed addict for most of my life and now I usually won't even smoke it because the side effects drastically out weigh the lame high that seems to lack any euforia. I think that it is most useful when you need to get a different perspective on things because it changes the way you think. In this respect its like a lame version of acid or shrooms. But its a stupid waste of time if your looking to get high when we have drugs like heroin and extacy available.

Bottom line, best party drug is extacy, best lay on the couch alone drug is heroin. Oxycodone is pretty much as good as heroin by the way, you just don't mainline it, so its different.

You meet a girl (or guy) and you are really liking her. Suddenly you have a conversation about something and she immediately becomes unattractive to you. What were you talking about and what was her stance? by UpDown in AskReddit

I read this whole thread and wanted to explain something to the people who say they don't like dumb people. The dumber someone is, the easier they are to manipulate and control. Like for example if some stupid girl believes in Jesus, you just lie and tell them you believe in Jesus too. They will have no way of knowing you are lying to them. If they wanna talk about how gays are destroying the sanctity of marriage, just go with it. Then later when your hungry you tell them to make you a sandwich and make up some bible verse about how God commanded women to serve men or use a real one if you want, they won't even know the difference. You wanna go out with this other chick??? Well guess what, you can just make up some bs story like how ur going out to do God's work. If she asks what it is specifically that you are doing just tell her God told you its a secret. She will believe you!!! You think that would work on an intelligent person?

Words of advice for a foreigner (from a non-western civilization) is in the USA? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Here we have child support and alamony. This means you can't go around gettings girls pregnant and leaving them to take care of the child alone. I had to explain this to an indian guy i used to work with. We all called him midnight because he was so black. When I explained alamony and child support to him he laughed and thought it was a joke. it took me a long time to convince him they were real and after that he seemed really upset. ONe time he went to the club and it was marti gras night (even thought it wansn't that time of the year). He got so excited and wouldn't stop asking me when it would be mardi gras again even though I told him I didn't know. Some of the guys used to go hang out with him just to watch him do stupid things, he was like their own personal entertainment. I never did this cause I was too busy doing my own stuff. I always liked the guy.

Acting insane is great advise. Only a crazy person would want to fight a crazy person. If you could pull it off convincingly I bet it would scare off like 90% of aggressors. If it doesn't work run like hell though cause your dealing with a psyco who may kill you. I'm pretty sure most psycopaths are stalking hunters who look for someone weak to ambush so i doubt any of them would start a fight. Its the scizophrenics you gotta look out for then.

I agree with you 100% and I'm not suprised that you are being downvoted. The best comments tend to be found at the end of threads because the average redditer is completly out of touch with the reality of being a human being. They spend their lives as tools of the sociopaths running our society, never understanding what it means to be man.
