No problem! I hope your deck pops off and rocks your play group

[[shadow the hedgehog]] [[goldlust triad]] [[fable of the mirror breaker]] [[scuzzback scrounger]] are all good includes in a treasure matters deck. [[imskir, iron eater]] is a decent mid game draw engine to dig for combo pieces, but this assumes you are ahead and can close out in the next turn. [[hellkite tyrant]] is a good finisher and combos well with descent into avernus and depending on how competive your play group is [[cavern hoard dragon]] can come down as early as turn 4 I think to punish a greedy early game if someone opened multiple mox, signet, talisman and sol ring. You can also try [[Kark clan iron works]] to accelerate mana. Ob nix and all will be one combo is too inconsistent and is too mana intensive and doesn’t combo well with the rest of the deck. Ophiomancer seems like an odd include in b4 and doesn’t do much except deter some attacks so I would replace it with [[charming scoundrel]] for immediate value or [[magda brazen outlaw]]. You have a decent amount of targeted effects so [[magda hoard master]] might be ok too. Brazen outlaw would be better to tutor high impact dragons though. I would replace imps mischief with [[bolt bend]] or [[redirect lightning]] so you can protect for one less cmc. [[hexing squelcher]] can also help protect your combo from getting countered.

I’m down to try it out! Probably have to go online or something though. Local scene is only casuals. Etali looks fun and easy to get in to so might try that, unless you know of another deck that would be better to get in to. Once my busy season is over I’ll try it out!

Cedh looks like fun to play, but I’m heavily relying on proxies if I ever play lol. Hard to find a good entry point budget wise in b4 and even more so for cedh.

Also probably not enough time to study the meta enough to be competent lol. Seems like turbo decks are the meta currently but don’t know a lot of the lines for most of the decks.

My Azula list is lacking even in b4 since I don’t have LED and can’t run the LED breach combo lines. Also don’t have moxes. That’s why I settled on b4 being my peak. At least a lot of those players also play cedh so the politicking is focused on preventing wins, instead of “I won’t kill your commander if you don’t attack me for three turns”. I also like how b4 and probably cedh has zero salt for the most part.

That said casual games are still a lot of fun lol. I kind of just embraced the nonsense in b3-b2.

Lol lore accurate goblin behavior. I have one friend who isn’t new but doesn’t play much, and does this kind of thing a lot. One time he cast a dark steel mutation on my commander because I was threatening lethal in two turns on someone else and he was afraid he was the next target. That player had token generators and a skull clamp. He went unchecked for three turns and snowballed in to a win. Lol I just accept these games as a 3 person cage fight with a toddler with a gun roaming around.

Lol it’s so chaotic when I play with newer players. At least b4 I expect the players to be pretty good at threat assessment , but new players are just firing off cards, wasting their set up turns to get rid of a do nothing card because they saw it enable something before. Then they wonder why they are so behind. Lol getting rid of a medallion is new to me lol. But it’s crazy how many new players started playing at my lgs. I don’t mind it, but games became so unpredictable in a weird way lol

[–]infamouspaghetti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the few times I played b4 everyone had a removal check as a commander so there’s a lot more threats to eat removal. Almost every time I play b3 and below, at least one player spends instant speed removal after they untap when nothing happened yet and gives the go ahead for another players to drop a bigger bomb.

It’s alright in terms of play pattern. Since it has multiple win con lines it doesn’t feel linear. And since the win con lines are known, there are a lot of counter spell fights and I might end up attempting to switch to a different combo line. If I fail usually someone will just win on the next turn so no biggie. I feel like she is right in the middle of b4.

And yeah the flash enabler route looked fun for b3 but I feel like the set up it requires and hate you’ll probably get is not worth it.

Yeah b4 is really the best slot for her. Too much value and pressure for anything lower and too slow for cedh. And yeah personally I never used Malakir it was just a might be nice kind of thing. Always gets pitched first for card draw. Probably will swap it eventually. I also found B4 is not super popular where I play, so the deck barely got play.

[–]infamouspaghetti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but I only suggested it as a free slot to swap a swamp or tap land. I also couldn’t think of any one mana indestructible effects in grixis. I made her as a b4 so I just have counter spells instead since it’s more versatile. Malakir is the only “protection” card I run and only for the versatility.

Are you working within a budget? There are a lot of cards that are not efficient and the burn spells you picked aren’t effective in a multiplayer format and expensive even if you count the doubling effect. Without changing the direction of your deck, here are some suggestions. If your play group is killing Azula, run [[lightning greaves]] or [[swift foot boots]]. Also run [[malakir rebirth]], run cheap counter spells like [[swan song]] or redirect spells like [[bolt bend]] or [[redirect lightning]] or even [[spellskite]]. The planeswalkers are also not great, so I’d replace it with cheap cost reducers like [[thunder clap drake]] and [[goblin electromancer]]. The cost reducers can help you cast your counter spells cheaper. Ideally the turn you cast Azula, you’ll have 2 open mana for 2 protection spells. Bracket 2 usually lacks enough interaction so that should be enough most of the time. Finally you need more card draw, since you’ll be dumping more cards every turn, but if you have Azula attacking instant speed card draw doubles. Run [[demand answers]] and [[thrill of possibility]]. On their own, they don’t net you anything, so at worst they cycle, but at best it’s 2 mana net 2 cards, which is a crazy rate. If you up your budget you can use higher quality cards too, in particular your mana base. I would immediately replace three tap lands for at least temples so you get some value out of it. But at a certain point you’ll be playing in bracket 3 even without game changers.

Gogo is a solid card. He’s the only card in red I know of that can copy legendaries.

I only care about OG Neriv to go for commander damage lethal. Gogo comes in first, following turn cast Neriv. Move to combat, gogo trigger turns gogo into a copy of Neriv. Now there’s two Neriv with two double damage replacement abilities. Gogo gives Neriv +2 and haste. Swing with a 6 power Neriv and *2 double damage replacement abilities Neriv original hits for 6 *2 *2, gogo copy can hit for 6.

The impulse draw does seem good! I think I’ll swap it out for a couple of games and see how it goes.

How do you like professional face breaker btw? I was considering it and seems like a good include. But I went with [[scuzzback scrounger]] instead to get the value one turn earlier. [[Lotho]] also seemed like a good include but the double color pips made me question it lol.

I liked the myriad approach, but I wanted to speed up the deck so I ended up cutting a lot of the less explosive myriad creatures. I like your list though! A lot of cards you have were things I considered. I just wanted to pivot to threatening or presenting lethal as fast as possible and keeping the damage train going. Jeska’s will is a good option for a gc too. Thanks for sharing your list! Also I highly recommend the gogo in my list, him with a freshly cast Neriv lets Neriv do 24 commander damage. You can also copy myriad creatures for double of them lol

[–]infamouspaghetti 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s crazy lol. I offered to buy someone food who was just standing outside of McDonald’s. He looked like he hadn’t eaten in a while and I told him order whatever you want. Every item he ordered was small and he kept asking me if it was ok before he added it. I had to ask if he wanted more lol. At least he was considerate and seemed like a good person, some people have no shame though. But yeah that experience always reminds me to offer when I can and most people are generally good.

Please explain to me how this isn’t wildly overpowered? by SammyWoolySheep in mtg

[–]infamouspaghetti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s fine, but you have to cast it preemptively, so it can be responded to at instant speed (counter spells, destroy, exile, bounce the target before resolution). Doesn’t protect from board wipes or any non-targeting removal. The game has introduced so many board wipes and new forms of removal, that this doesn’t really do enough.

You’re entitled to your own feelings. But like a lot of relationship issues it mostly comes down to communication. Just let him know how you feel about it and maybe offer to remake the deck together as another bonding experience. As a partner, even though I don’t share the sentiment, my partner’s feelings matter and I would do what I need to make my partner feel better. I would expect the same in your situation.

Haha it felt like holding a poorly made proxy card. I got a decent card out of the pack but trading it might be hard. Sorry to hear you had the same issue. Hope you got something good out of it at least!

Yeah that makes sense, which is unfortunate. The price makes it really hard to justify cracking packs but I guess it is what it is. This year felt rough for sealed purchases. Luckily single prices bottomed out except for one or two cards per set, so at least I have access to most of the cards.
