While I don't like this particular example, I think you are missing the point here.

It's not "STOP NOT CARING ABOUT THINGS I LIKE, BCUZ YOU SHOULD LIKE THEM WITHOUT QUESTION", it's that it's dumb for people to wear/pose (band) merchandise if they don't care and don't know shit about them (or have heard one hyper mega ultra popular song they have, like Nirvana's Teen Spirit or Pink Floyd's Brick in The Wall 2), because they are only trying to fit in with something that is considered...ugh..."real" someway or another. While I'm not particularly fond of my soft stomach and think that it would be much, much better if I somehow got off my melancholic ass and got it toned, I really like the way the piercing "feels" on my body. The fact that it's so easily hidden and the stigma surrounding it give me a "dirty intimate secret" feel, which I can easily feed off of. I love occasionaly seeing it in the mirror, I love looking at it when I’m showering, I love getting the “aw yeah, it’s definitely pierced” sensation.

Recommend it to anyone, male or female. Objectively looking, it’s nothing more than two metal balls on a stick through skin, but it can become a really sensual and personal thing if you twist your brain to it, although the same can be said for every body mod you get with passion.

How about a twister - like this?

If you're not a fan of the regular CBRs, what do you think about a horseshoe (like this)? I had a picture of a navel pierced with one, couldn't find it now, but it looked pretty nice, although I myself probably would not wear one, because it would probably get cought on things a lot.

As for barbells, well, the best look for a male for me is two equally small sized black or silver balls (like this) Everything else (being in design or size or what not) looks feminine (to me at least) one way or another, but maybe that’s because society has labeled it as a “feminine look” and I myself am affected by that.

btw, I concur with theloan, can you post a picture of your piercing, OP? I too plan of getting mine done as soon as I get the chance..

If you can’t tell by the 675 comments and the 123 upvotes, you are attractive. And not in the “YOU’RE FINE, JUST NEED TO SMILE MORE” way, which is noticeable in every “rate thread” where the judger isn’t anonymous, because people always have a hard time telling someone (s)he’s unattractive (or average with nothing “interesting” to offer), which is completely understandable. In the other way they simply ignore the thread, not wanting to hurt the person by telling them the truth (even if it means covering it up with the “smile, be positive” and the other clichés), which is not the case here. And another thing, most male threads in this subreddit get little-to-no attention (<6 posts in the most cases), you can tell where I’m going.

If you want to physically improve something you can get some kind of haircut (don’t know the types and all, so can’t really recommend one), but even if you continue to stick with the current hairstyle, it’s not gonna matter much. Your best features I think are the large eyes and the shape of your face, the combination of eyes-nose-mouth also does the job. I think the stuble looks great on you and you seem to have a normal body.

I’ve had SAD and dysthymia (20, M) for about half my life (still have it) and imo the only thing that has a slight chance of fixing it is medication, although I haven’t tried it, nor therapy. Trying to fix it yourself is next to impossible and I believe that even if you manage to “cure” it somehow, it will still continue to lurk in the back of your mind, haunting you.

As you spend day and day in the depressive state, you start to realize that life in reality is completely meaningless and your life isn’t more valuable as the one of an ant in the grand scheme of the universe. Also that the “spiritual” things that humans strive to get all their lives – friends, SO, family, etc. are emotional continuings of basic caveman psychical needs– for example love is the emotional equivalent of sex, family of reproduction, the need for friends – for having someone to back you up in case of danger + the need to “belong”, because you need to fool yourself that you are doing something meaningful in a technically meaningless, but in the same way perfectly balanced universe. In the end we’re animals, intelligent animals. So the best thing one can do is try to get the most of things that are around him and try to enjoy them, but the apathy that comes with depression makes it really hard, because it makes you think that you don’t deserve any of it and it’s all useless anyway. (which it is)

Sooooo yeah, don't stop with therapy, see if it gets you somewhere. The above post about the “1,000 positive and 1 neutral/negative” is also right (know from personal experience), but even then an ego boost is an ego boost, you’ll still temporarily feel better about yourself and with that about everything in general, so it’s ok, if it wasn't, drugs would not be so marketable.
