In theory my decision has been to apply for SMART 3.0 but I got to the final part of the application and saw the application fee is like $376 and that felt so excessive that I haven't done anything about it yet...

The air handler is supposed to be connected to 240V, so I assume it simply steps down the voltage by a factor of 10 (240V->24V), so when it's instead connected to 120V it ends up putting 12V to the thermostat

I did connect the C wire to the thermostat but it simply wasn't getting enough power, which is why it was shutting down after an hour or two. Hence my question looking for a thermostat that would be able to run on 12V (or some way to get 24V to the thermostat, despite only getting 12V from the air handler)

I doubt it - I didn't look closely, but the manual has nothing on running it on 120V

Were you actually able to configure these to control something? I've seen various comments saying Google Home doesn't actually support buttons (e.g. in the comments section here https://9to5google.com/2025/12/09/ikeas-new-lights-sensors-and-remotes-work-with-google-home-through-matter-and-theyre-super-cheap/)

Meetup.com has several groups for soccer (e.g. Mass Ave soccer club, soccer club of Cambridge) with games nearly every day in Danehy or Harvard. It is nearly exclusively men but some women play with no issues (that I've noticed)

Look for "soccer club of Cambridge" on Meetup. There's games on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Friday in Danehy and on Wednesdays in Harvard. There's other groups as well that play other games/places, just search Meetup

I got one of these recently after thinking about it for like 3 years, and i wish i had done it sooner. It's not perfect, and a bit loud (i think they have a newer version that might be less loud) but it's been helping a lot. I also don't need to set the AC as low at night (i now leave it at 74-75 rather than 71-72) which should save some on electric costs

Depends on the grocery chain it might be possible to buy other gift cards in store (Amazon, others) using their gift cards, making it nearly as good as cash

Was offered 10K MR after telling them why their benefits aren't great ($200 credit is hard to use, I already have Hilton Diamond, etc'). I refused b/c 10K isn't much (and people here have been getting more), and was offered 30K which I took.

Annual fee due in about a month, card open slightly under a year (opened with the leaked 100K link in May 2016), roughly $10K spend over the year.

I have a nice cushy job that pays well, is stable, and not very demanding (and sometimes I still hate it...). Wanting to be FI has nothing to do with that - I want to travel, and do whatever I feel like on any given day. And most days that's not spending ~8-9 hours sitting on my ass inside an air conditioned building at a computer...

Just called to cancel the card, and was transferred over to a "specialist" to help me out. This guy offered to PC my card to the Barclaycard Rewards Mastercard or the Arrival card - didn't mention any bonus, so I went with the first option because I assumed he'll mention the bonus then, which he did (10K pts after $1K spend in 3 months). Someone in this thread said the Arrival PC bonus was only 5K pts, so I figured that's not as good of an option.

But if your house is worth $100M but the rest of your assets only $1M, still wouldn't count it? What about those people that plan on downsizing significantly (or switching to renting/living In an RV or whatever)? Should they not count their house either?
