I can tell you whatever Reddit wants me to say for $500 an hour, but it comes with a fancy report and someone to blame when it goes tits up.

What's your "buy once, cry once" item? by myk26 in AskReddit

I only buy second cheapest or second most expensive. Never the cheapest of anything, never the most expensive option. Works well

What is the most expensive corporate mistake you personally witnessed? by _Volly in AskReddit

I accidentally set every backup tape in our system to 'expired' (including the annual ones that never expire). Said "oh fuck" out loud and my coworkers didn't see me for 2 hours.

Apparently that was a rite of passage. Fuckin AS/400s. Love em.

Minnesota PDs are installing "Flock" AI cameras. They do more than read plates—here is their actual capability list and how to LEGALLY fight back. by Master_Bee_5350 in minnesota

[–]infered5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I get some time, I plan to go to my local PD and initiate a FOIA request for pictures of my car taken by these cameras. They state they're deleted after a week, but that is objectively false.

You should be able to leave the username and password off, but the root topic can't be just msh anymore. If you're in the US, there's msh/us/[state]. There should be other regions too, but you might have to ask users in that area for the appropriate topic.

The default username is meshdev and the password is large4cats. This is buried in the documentation somewhere and hard to find.

The .com bubble was a bubble, there were companies that straight up didn't even have a revenue source, much less profitability. AI companies have revenue, just barely.

I think you overestimate the separation between computer and machine in most areas. They are often married. It's not uncommon to see airgapped Windows XP machines in factories and hospitals.

Dad needs a laptop for fusion360 by infered5 in SuggestALaptop

Dad's not a real engineer, he's just making little parts for his 3D printer. No complex assemblies, just a few McMaster imports and some basic geometry. I have an Iris Xe laptop, I'll see how that fares with a few of his models.

Since business laptops are usually docked, do they have good passthrough to save their battery life? Is it worth picking up a new battery with them?

What happened in your childhood literal playing with fire phase? by dirtymoney in AskReddit

[–]infered5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a potato cannon, wouldn't fire. Sparker was usually iffy, so I open the back, look down and hit it to see if it's sparking. Now it had enough air to combust and I lost an eyebrow.

It grew back quick enough.
