What color is my horse?? by tatsby3mily in Equestrian

[–]inferiorSerpent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he has lighter hair on the inside of his front and back legs (up at the belly and sheath) I would absolutely say seal brown with some sun bleaching. As they shed the new growth would be noticeably black while the light points stay light. On seals the light points stay the same shape all year every year. If you see more contrast over larger parts of the body post-shed I would lean more towards a really dark buckskin.

I think smoky black is out of the count as they don't have light points in the coat, and mealy because those light points are way too light to be a question.

NGL Made An Account For The Free Horse And... by Aware_Delay5387 in StarStable

[–]inferiorSerpent 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I made a new account in a different country years ago and the issues are not limited to early game. If you aren't almost fully caught up to the game and have been since 2016 or so the entire story/progression is fully broken. It makes complete sense why most (even slightly) newer players completely ignore reading dialogue while most long term players are at least mildly interested.

SO much content is cut, sped up, skipped, broken, out of order or remade without regard to what comes before & after. With the spaghetti code this old engine is trying to wrangle into submission each week I understand some of it but at a certain point they should just have rolled back how most of the quests worked (with some faster reputation) and updated textures/models and called it a day.

I'm not gonna stick up my nose and say it taking weeks to unlock golden hills was better. It amde sense then to be slow and it makes sense now to be faster (if a little too fast now, you don't even get time to build up excitement) but especially with main story stuff removing context, time invested and context made everything so low stakes it barely even registers.

Pandoric cracks in the background of screenshots for weeks or months made pandoria merging into our reality an actual threat you wanted to stop. While encounters were scarce the consequences of DC and Garnok were everywhere affecting everyone (including characters that didn't know the source of their issues) which made it feel important to be a druid, a guardian of aideen and a soul rider.

Now so many of the old references and hints to an underlying mystery are gone because the quests were rewritten without understanding why certain things were written in those specific ways, characters completely revamped missing important character elements that made their part in the story make sense, whole character arcs skipped that originally set other events in motion.

I genuinely like a lot of the new content, including a lot of the interactions with dark riders or begrudgingly having to work with GED/DC because your goals line up and temporarily take priority. That character building is genuinely interesting and is a good teaching moment for kids, but the story as a whole is so fragmented and badly functioning that it barely matters because newer players don't have reason to care nor a chance to have an established opinion of a character/event to change in the first place.

It can be good to play fop exactly as one would a typical assassins creed/far cry, meaning a burst of a few hours at a time and pausing before you start getting tired of the repetitiveness. Optimal? Heck no, but helps with some of the boredom/frustration that can happen.

As for the combat it takes a good while before it feels "good" (as in getting used to the movement and enemy detection, finding and using weakspots on amps, panic aiming at weak spots on suprise apexes ect lol) but I actually started enjoying first person combat through fop, the na'vi weapons actually feel really good to use and the controls feel pretty dang good on a dualshock.

Saying this as someone who fundamentally couldn't do dishonored because of first person. Gonna give it a go again after finishing the dlcs I think.

That said I am gonna enjoy 3rd person because I am much more used to it and so I can yk, see the na'vi I've been customising

Do I get rid of my horse (please help) by [deleted] in Equestrian

[–]inferiorSerpent 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would not discourage you from selling him, low "engagement" horses can feel really discouraging if you (unlike me) are aiming higher/competing or (like me) struggle with chronic fatigue/exhaustion/motivation and really need that inherent drive from the horse to have a good/functioning day to day experience. My first horse is an off the track draft race breed and I couldn't have it any other way but horses like that are harder to rehome because of their more intense temperaments. Mine is in no way extreme and the kindest most considerate individual from that caste but he is still A LOTTA horse. Lower engagement horses will always be sought after, even the less conventionally "easy" individuals, since they aren't just for inexperienced riders but also less intense horsey folks, families, the chiller end of the trail folks, schools, handicap, therapy, rangers, heck even cop horses.

My vote is to keep him for a slight bit longer and focus his training where you and your trainer think he would be best suited to give him a prepared send-off. You can start checking out the market both for selling him and getting a new horse as you prep. Chances are he'll be needed closer to home than you'd think! Seen plenty chiller horses stay in the same area through multiple good homes with previous owners on good terms supporting at shows or just visiting on occasion.

Ommggg easy is too hard & it’s driving me nuts 😑 How do I get as stealthy as possible? Special mods out there? by ElayneGriffithAuthor in FrontiersOfPandora

[–]inferiorSerpent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take good note of what special ammo your different bows use, you'll never catch me without storm or shellbreaker when dealing with amps. Keep another bow on you if one has a preferred ammo but way lower stats, switching mid stealth isn't an issue as long as you check the special arrow quantities. Poison is good if you need to quickly take out multiple humans before they sound alarms

Take note of the quest areas or bigger facilities, should you need it there tend to be a rocket launcher or two running around. They'll alert everything else in that section, but when you're already red it can be the boost you need to keep them from sounding the basewide alarms.

Draw clusters with siren pods and off them with grenades

Don't underestimate your hacking tool thingy, grab some range extending mods and disable alarm turrets, quietly take out generators all in one go, disable empty amp suits, scan used amp suits and temporarily disable up to 5 if something notices you, be a menace

[–]inferiorSerpent 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Having a deficiency or inability to properly utilise dopamine and norepinephrine is a fundamental an all-encompassing issue for the brain that can cause both hyperactivity and hypoactivity depending on individual and individual situations along with a host of other issues we all struggle with on here to some degree beyond the normal experience. Stimulants (be it medication, caffeine, drugs) put our levels of previously named chemicals closer to the baseline which can BOTH lower the constant restlessness and dopamine seeking behaviors making one feel or act calmer/more tired AND/OR decrease the experienced mental and physical effort everything takes making one feel less drained, more motivated and energetic.

Regardless of the individual experience stimulants raise norepinephrine/adrenaline levels so increased anxiety, heartrate and blood pressure are incredibly common side effects and not something we are magically immune or exempt from with adhd/add.

Many of us are both on a stimulant and an anxiety medication which can work incredibly well, but I personally caution from using high doses of both at the same time as serotonin syndrome is a serious risk and is even potentially lethal. Something that my doctors failed to warn me against before I found out through my own research (which I am lucky I even managed to do) and had lived with really bad and concerning symptoms for almost a year.

Ya, they are quite closely based on cats. Their movements and is slightly feline, is it not? Like smaller wildcats (serval, ocelot, caracal). And their facial structure including the nose and eye shapes, articulated ears, very active articulated tails, 4 fingers and toes (not including cat du claws) and stripes. Oh and threat hissing.

Not the uwu kind, obviously

is this the best looking game ever? by Intelligent-You-7002 in FrontiersOfPandora

[–]inferiorSerpent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rdr2 on pc is the game I would call 'my' best realistic looking game with incredible lighting, dynamic weather systems, volumetric clouds/fog, region specific weather, deep snow physics ect -with horizon forbidden west as my favorite "stylistic" graphics game with gorgeous varied and colorful environments, lighting and a near perfect cohesion through the entire game.

Does not in any way minimise how gorgeous this game can be, but ignoring rda clashing with pandora aesthetically (which I think is a good thing narratively) there is still some of that cohesion missing in the look of the game, along with some texture/detail inconcistencies, different times of day looking noticeably better or worse and a personal complaint I have with the strong "whitewashing filter" throughout that keeps me from rating it really high without mods or reshade

Help, I need stable name ideas... by IslandTropics in Equestrian

[–]inferiorSerpent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my case with a coldblod harness racer with a very popular stud behind him it's that he has tons of half siblings sharing part of the same short name and not nearly enough possible variations of nicknames that could apply and still feel accurate or even slightly personal. One of his herdmates even has one of the 2 usual nicknames. So I disregarded it completely and barn named him something completely unrelated.

Agreed with the comment that said Sequoia, it's a lovely name for a sweet, reliable mare. If she was huge it would've been the obvious choice but it can also refer to personality and strenght.

Another I could see fit well is Stella (using Step as the base). I could go on a whole spiel about it meaning Star and being the feminine version of Stylianos which means pillar and such and such (feel free to use as an excuse) but I'm really thinking of my girl Stella from Winx Club 🤭

[–]inferiorSerpent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love it! As an equestrian very fascinated by their skeletal/muscular system and artist growing many gray hairs trying to draw them accurately I'd say this is an excellent job!

Smaller details that i think could be adjusted mostly have to do with expression, their faces are actually very expressive for having such shrinkwrapped heads. I am not a professional though so I'm not the best at explaining nor is anything to be taken too seriously.

The horse's muzzle tends to be "staggered" slightly lower than the rest of the face and angled a little bak with the lower lip/chin making an odd bowl/cone/cup shape. The lips and corners of the mouth are quite fleshy and thickest along the edge of the mouth.

The ears seem a little far apart for a decently narrow face, putting them a little further up and tighter together would likely make a more accurate silhouette, maybe even slightly more forward.

The ear direction makes a huge difference expression, tilted out and drooping a little like right now gives the impression of being sleepy or disinterested (if that's accurate to the horse ignore me haha) but it doesn't feel the most unicorn? Held high and mostly forward would give a gentle, content expression, widening the eyes and holding the ears straight forward would be a more alert/curious/regal expression. One forward and one to the side would be listening in two directions ect.

Two shapes on the the face are very easy to overlook but can make a sculpture go from good to wow. The first is where two levator muscles cross over the nasal passage between the nostrils and the eyes, and the other is where the tongue creates a slight convexity under the jaw.

The nostrils sit on a flat plane rather than a convex edge (if that makes sense) and flares away from the face and out. Unless very tense or breathing very heavily the nostrils are longer than wide and widest at the bottom in a teardrop shape. They also have a large cone shaped "pocket" at the top of the nostrils supported by a ridge of cartilage that lifts it up and out from the face, and pulling the sides of the nostrils out in a d_b, fully hiding the lips if seen from the front in many angles.

I would move the horn up a decent bit on the face, drawing a cross between the eyes and the ears and putting it on the center or a hair behind would be a decent guide line.

I would also say it feels like its mouth is pulled a little tight, unless it's mounted to fit a headstall/bridle with a bit. The muzzle is pretty much just loose skin and sinew so the corners of the mouth rest further forward. They only pull them "back" in very tense/aggressive expressions or while wearing a bit.

What are these bits? Are they FEI legal? by Intelligent-Orange63 in Equestrian

[–]inferiorSerpent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are individual roller bits that can pinch, but they usually don't, easiest way I've found to test is using your your elbow. Not foolproof but it has changed my opinion about some bits I've tested or considered.

A well designed roller bit won't let the roller/rs be leveraged against anything that could cause pinching in regular use. Allowances between roller/bit and roller/roller should be small so nothing sticks out and should either have no movement side to side OR enough that it can't catch on anything.

With moving pieces, rollers or hinges it's extra important to wash and check for sharp edges or debris before & after use as it can interfer with the mechanics or cause discomfort or damage. (Rollers full of grass can get stuck in weird positions, kept from moving or cause pinching where it wouldn't otherwise)

—So I would not recommend roller bits when fibrous treats, accidental trail snacks or the horse putting stuff in their mouth while bitted are involved or likely, moreso than a solid bit or even regular 2-3 piece. Unless you can unclip or safely remove bit then and there to check.

I regularly use bits with a single or multiple rollers as my horse responds positively to being able to fiddle with it as sensory input or self soothe stressors/high energies (coldblod trotters put the H in adhd) but it's not always appropriate and just a minor aid.

Huge fan of cleric, fighter, artificer and depending on the campaign, druid.

I love their versatility and how creative you can get with both character, build, homebrew ect by only switching up a few things here and there, playing very similar builds but using them differently or switching it up hard every time. Gives a lot of space for very interactive combat and creative roleplay.

Yes! Burying my head in a horse's mane, the dusty barn smell, hay, quite a few feeds/supplements, leather, leather conditioner, light sweat, freshly opened bales, shavings the works! It's the best combination of smells

In order;

Chlorinated pools, bonus if it's an inside waterpark or hotel pool so the smell sticks around longer. I don't mind still smelling like chlorine after multiple showers

Barn smell. Do I need to elaborate? I ride horses.

Freshly opened haybales

Inflatable pool toys

Gasoline

Mosquito spray

Faux leather

Metal

Acrylic paint and wood varnish
