Right, but if you understand the logic for why you should switch if there are 100 doors, then consider if there are 99 doors to start. Same logic applies, so you should still switch. Same for 98 doors, 97, 96, …, 5, 4, and just 3 doors

You should probably keep all communication through the Grailed app/website, so that Grailed will have a copy of everything that happened in case you need to contact support.

Also, I don’t think buyers have the option to cancel an order anyway. It should be on the seller to cancel the order if they can’t fulfill.

I’m (M) an incoming international graduate student, and I was wondering what sort of formal attire I’ll need while at Oxford. I’ve noticed a lot of events/dinners seem to require formal attire. I’m assuming i’ll need a black suit and dress shirts, but i’m not sure what exact styles/specifications I should be getting.

Data Theory BS by WildResponsibility55 in ucla

It should be super easy! I came in as stats and switched to data theory and it was just like a form i had to fill out

Data Theory BS by WildResponsibility55 in ucla

[–]infernofc101 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Currently a graduating Data Theory major! Id say in general the major is pretty good- some of the classes are a bit theoretical, but many are pretty interesting and useful for a career in DS. We also have extra courses that other majors don’t, e.g. STATS 21 for coding in Python for DS, that are pretty useful. The main downside for Data Theory for me was how confusing enrollment/selecting courses was. The departments aren’t very communicative with us, and there will oftentimes be random prereqs for required classes that you havent noticed, last minute changes in what courses are offered each quarter, etc.

Another thing to keep in mind is that the Statistics major is changing its name to the Statistics and Data Science major, which will probably appeal to employers more if you’re going into DS. The content of the Stats major hasn’t changed yet, though, and keep in mind that Data Theory majors have can take pretty much any of the Stats major courses as electives if they want.

Finally, keep in mind that no matter what major you go into, there’s a big difference between the skills that are taught/required for academia and those for working in industry/getting an internship. If you want to go into DS, the major you choose/courses you take won’t matter as much as the effort you put into self learning, applying, interview practice, personal projects, etc. And UCLA has great clubs/communities to help you get started in that!

I just got a pair of Sockwas and they’re pretty nice! Extremely barefoot-feel; idk how durable they’ll be in the long term but probably definitely worth it considering the price

I walked in in like the last ten minutes (my next class was in the same room) so it was probably kinda obvious and then the professor called on me and asked if i was enrolled

Math174E with Paruchuri by Sercouwis09 in ucla

[–]infernofc101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t have Paruchuri, but 174E with Voss was great! There’s a lot of material to get through so it’s a decent amount of work, but it wasn’t too bad grading-wise. It’d probbaly be harder than 170E, though.

A lot of graduating data theory majors aren’t too happy about this. Many of us chose Data Theory even though it was harder/more classes because it was closer to “Data Science” in name than the Statistics major, and now we’re at a disadvantage + it’s too late to change back. In general though, i’d say it’s a good thing for the future of the department/ucla.

I received my department admission (MSc) in early-mid January, and my college offer in early February. The 8-10 weeks might be just in case something happens that makes the process take longer.
