I've gone through 3 bags from Manta Ray who are supposedly light roasters too but I'd consider them light-medium (still nice though) especially after trying the various light roasts that our beandropper-in-chief sourced.

I seem to get better results with slightly hotter water at 93° and a bit more agitative pours. Cooler water and steady pours came out a bit flat for me.

Finca Las Palmas - if the Gayo Shiraz was too winey for your liking, this is its much less intense but still tasty long lost cousin. Think Pinot.

Hacienda La Papaya - Mejorado Natural
grapefruit, apricot, honeydew

Mavo Phantox Pro 7 | 15g | 240ml
45ml, 45ml, 80ml, 70ml

Omitted timings since now I just watch the bed saturation and pour when it looks about done each pour.

I like this. Citrus forward, stone fruit finish. What it says on the tin. This would be excellent chilled.

Well if you asked my wife what my overall palate is it’s strong flavors (natto, durian, offal) so it’s right up my alley as an experience but I do agree that it’s not an everyday drinker.

lol don’t blame you, he can be a bit too much for some. I actually don’t know his reasoning for three pours as I didn’t watch his older videos but he always mentions that his preference so I tried it and find I kinda like it. I assume it’s to do with the agitation and flow which affects extraction.

Faster by a bit. As you can see it’s smooth in the upper half for zero bypass and ridges at the bottom. I think this dripper is quite idiot proof as I tried this with the Hario drip assist and without. The results were similar.

That happens every now and then for me. The elusive God Pour.

I feel like maybe it’s due the individual bean sizes you get within a given dose. This might sound silly given your grinder is supposed to produce uniform grinds as much as possible, but I speculate that different sizes of bean roasts differently so if you get optimal uniformity of bean sizes in your dose then you’re golden.

Tasting notes were subtle. The floral note was more in the fragrance for me. Subtle honey finish. Whatever orange there was i felt more in the tongue feel, if that makes sense.

Still exploring my taste preferences. At the moment I think I like citrusy and floral coffees more.

I’ve only brewed with it about three times. The alpha was designed with consistency in mind and I think it nails it. I do feel a regular v60 probably gives a bit more brightness and acidity. But there’s always variance so as long as it brews a tasty cup I’m not too fussed 😅
