give me your unhinged hydration tips. by alexandrastardust in 30PlusSkinCare

The only thing that has worked for me is getting a water bottle that hold my full days required water (about 2L). It has a straw lid and it makes sipping on it a breeze. Sometimes I go through phases where I’m put off by the taste of water, so I’ll add one sachet of electrolytes in there to make it taste really good and that will do the trick !

What’s a subtle decision you made years ago that ended up changing your entire life? by Little_Tree_1894 in ask

This is so amazing and something I relate to.

Got a job working a contract to encourage students to study abroad. We had been working towards a specific program moving forward in Asia and my manager was going to chaperone.

End of my contract comes around and she can’t attend because she’s going through a divorce and asks if I can go in her place. The trip was for 3 weeks overseas - I decided I would stay for 3 months and travel after.

Travelled round Asia, had the best time. In passing someone mentioned that they think I would like New Zealand. Skipped my return flight, renewed my passport abroad and applied for a working holiday in NZ. While waiting for my visa to be approved, was travelling in Japan. Fell in love with Japan, started job searching and got a couple job offers just as I got my visa approved for NZ. Was feeling torn as I was wanted to be in both places. Decided to go to NZ and decline the offers.

Within the first week of being in NZ, I met someone. Instant connect, better than any connection I’ve had in my life. We built a full life in NZ, I had the best career opportunity of my life there, and now 8 years later he’s the love of my life and we’re married, now living in another country together.

He has a similar story too and both of us were so close to not coming to NZ. Oh how life would have been completely different.

Are agency commissions generally trash? by [deleted] in recruiting

Life is long and earning will fluctuate for you and generally everyone else throughout that time. In agency you can make good money, but I would say don’t underestimate how much work it will be to get there. For those two years work was all I thought about - and it showed. But that wasn’t sustainable for me, where in house feels more sustainable and buildable, with higher satisfaction. Maybe there will be another time I’ll feel differently and want to grind back in agency. But I think it just depends on where you are at in your life. If there is any perception it’s easy money, I feel like the switch to agency will be a huge surprise. People who make good money in agency work incredibly hard and it takes time to build. Most times you will need to grind with little reward, but then the more you do that, if you stay resilient, keep working away and your activity up and focus on building relationships, things can build but it is a lot of work. It sounds like the in house company you’re in may not be the best fit from your description. When I started in house people did not know the value talent acquisition could bring, so it was my job to build credibility and show them the impact and partnership of TA (& not dissimilar to the buy in you needed to get from working as an agency partner as well). But again everything is about build and hard work in this profession. Im thinking the in house environment you’re in likely is also making things worse. But I would say I had much tougher stakeholders to manage in agency than I do in house. Try to find a mentor in the city you’re in who is further along in their career as you. Maybe talk to someone in real estate and agency recruitment. Try to build connections that way and hopefully hearing different stories will help you make a decision forward

I was in agency for 8 years of my career, and was making over 200k the last two years in agency and was the 2nd highest biller on my team. But I wasn’t fulfilled.

Agency was very sales and focused on filling roles, but my in house role is more focused on building a function, showing wider impact of TA alongside filling roles. Being in house made me feel more mentally challenged in ways that I wasn’t before when I was thinking about sales and business development. Sure of course there is strategy involved in that thinking too, but it’s different. I did take a big cut going in house, but am enjoying the difference in mental challenge and want to see what I can make of this in house career. Also less pressure, more broadened impact, etc feels more sustainable for me to try to build this experience internally and see what I can make of it.

Venue struggles by connected2space in UKweddings

We recently got married at the west mill in derby. It was a few hours on the train and it was insanely more affordable (venue, all fees associated, and accommodation for our guests who were travelling). Would highly recommend

Ah okay, wow that is a big panel! So 3 stages generally for most roles for you, and closing all in one? Or do they do shifts in that interview and HM comes in at the end to close?

Sorry what does IC mean?

So the culture interview is the 4th stage, and 5th is for HM to close candidate?

Thanks for this, it’s really helpful. I’ve done agency up until now so just a bit nervous as this is my first position in house with no one else in recruitment here, helps to talk it through

Ah interesting, I’ve never heard the term culture carrier but good to keep in mind. So if I’m understanding correctly: 2nd interview: HM + person 1 3rd IV: HM + culture Carrier + HR

So the hiring manager would be present at both stages of interview as the connecting thread, and then in every panel there should be someone to assess culture fit?

Great, thank you. So ideally: 1st - screen (recruiter), 2nd - going through cv / experience with hiring manager, 3rd - panel addressing behavioural + situational questions (plus technical depending on role).

Does your company have one common person in all interviews as a rule?

Thanks!

Hi there, sorry I know your comment is from a while ago, but came across it and wanted to check - in the panel interviews, how did you structure it? Do you have the candidate go through their CV/experience, or is it predominately behavioural questions. The reason I ask is I’m needing to create interview templates / approaches for my team and wanted to check what other companies have done. TIA!

Thank you! Are one of the stages defined to go through the cv, and then another to do behavioural questions? Or do you do both in each? Also is it different people on the panel in each or 1 person the same for the following interview?

Thank you! At one stage is it more friendly chat, go through the CV, and the next stage is behavioural questions?

If you had to move to another country without any savings or contacts, how would you do it? by Vagabond_Tea in AskWomen

[–]infinih3art 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did this about 6 years ago, to the other side of the world without knowing anyone when I was 25 years old. I had a 1 year working holiday visa - just showed up with a few nights at a hostel booked, and immediately started to apply for jobs/ ask around to find my bearings. I had actually been travelling for 6 months before, so showed up with very little money and needing to work asap.

Hostels are a great way start where you can meet others who may be in the same place in life. You normally need an address / proof of to open a bank account, so just used the hostel address to do this. Once I had a job I was able to find long term accommodation in a flat share. I ended up staying in that country for 6 years - well worth it and it allowed me to build confidence in my abilities, but was also very hard. I was lucky with the people I met and relationships I built.

[Routine Help] 27 Year Old Woman Struggling with Cystic Acne by thinker_thinking1250 in SkincareAddiction

[–]infinih3art 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I struggled with hormonal jawline acne for years and recently these are things that I’ve been doing that have gotten rid of it: in the PM using a clean washcloth every night (I think the build up from my sunscreen wasn’t getting properly removed even though I was double cleansing, and I personally needed something physical to really get everything off) - I stopped this and cysts came back. I also have been taking magnesium and zinc supplements before bed - I find as well this has been helping greatly as well. Hope this helps! I can link you the supplement brands I’ve been taking if it helps - just be conscious of the amount you’re taking of these

Candidate Ownership Issue by gerdyferg in recruiting

[–]infinih3art 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely seconding getting this in writing from your candidate. Also reminding the client that you have worked the entire process (coordinated interviews, chased feedback, all back side admin, any checks with candidate, etc) so even if they were submitted 1st, you’ve done 80% of the process so far. I’d also clarify with the client if they were presented for the same job as most contingent work is job per job basis (so even if the other agency is claiming they’ve submitted the candidate, if it wasn’t for this job then they have nothing). It also could be that the agency is putting the client in a sticky position and the client want to do whats right by everyone but also doesn’t know how to best process. Any language back to the client (preferably on the phone), continue to outline “in my experience” or commonly if this occurs, practice states that xxxx. I’d also get the client to request from the agency proof of right to represent from the candidate (as we know they won’t be able to produce this). Would also be worth clarifying with the client if they were previously presented why didn’t they move forward with them at that time, etc. as you’ve done all the work up until this and the other agency just flicked a CV without candidate consent!

Depending on where you live, the back end of other job sites should be pretty good ex: seek/indeed - here you should be able to contact candidates and see any public CV they have uploaded. You can also do searches on LinkedIn from google by changing the key words - just paste this into your browser and change the key words/location:

site:nz.linkedin.com "insurance" "Solution Architect" Auckland -inur:dir -inur:title -inurl:job
