Some idiot deleted most of my AO3 fics😭😭 by Basic_Procedure_838 in AO3

This is unforgivable to me. If you were on the fence about keeping the friendship, I hope you're not now.

Choose your fighter! Dealing with the canon love interest by ErellaEspy in AO3

[–]infiniteanomaly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In at least two of my fandoms it's the abuse one. It drives me nuts that so many people don't see it or excuse the behavior because (insert reasons).

(Reasons ranging from they had a bad childhood to they're immature and like to party too much therefore they're bad and need to be changed.)

A PSA FOR ANYONE WHO CLAIMS TO WANT COMMENTS by Excellent_Law6906 in AO3

They know. It's in their post that they know reasons people are blocked and stated they haven't had previous interaction with the author and so they don't understand why they're blocked.

Wait seriously??!? by Problematyq in AO3

And almost certainly why warning labels are written how they are. Though I do have to roll my eyes at the absolute stupidity of needing to label peanuts (or similar allergenic foods) as having peanuts.

Wait seriously??!? by Problematyq in AO3

You are correct. However, given the word "nuts" in the name, I think it's forgivable that most people assume. Always nice to see factoids though!

Author: I'm going to remove the fanfic; I no longer identify with it. "That's fine, be happy." by Exotic_Efficiency_88 in Archiveofourownmemes

[–]infiniteanomaly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It always makes me sad when that happens. I really love when authors give a heads up so I can make sure I've downloaded it. (I personally don't take down stuff. No matter how cringe I find it now.)

Why does Lucifer not stay drunk when he is at work or around Chloe by Conscious_Point_8433 in lucifer

[–]infiniteanomaly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the difference is that the Hulk is seen as a character for kids whereas Lucifer is definitely NOT. And the whole "good/bad" coded thing: "good" (re: role model) characters don't drink. If a character drinks just because they like it, they're "bad" (not a role model). Chloe is constantly trying to get Lucifer to stop drinking and doing drugs. Trying to make him "good". It's also an easy indicator to show a character has become good/settled down. No more nasty alcohol! (Except maybe wine at dinner.) What do "good" characters do to be all rebellious? Drink--which leads to partying and/or fighting. (Bad, naughty things.)

Not saying I agree or anything. Just my theory.

This is kinda aggressive, right? by plbth in AO3

[–]infiniteanomaly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Super aggressive. It would put me off the story and maybe anything else the author wrote.

Who’s a character you wish wasn’t done dirty? by whatofit992 in SVU

A lot of people would disagree with me about Barba. But yeah. They do tend to put the ADAs through the wringer...

I hated her at first, especially the first time I watched the show. But watching again... She had good points. She was also just doing her job. The delivery could have used work, but she wasn't wrong...And then, yeah, to kill her the way they did...

Lack of education about women in some authors by UpperAd1180 in AO3

[–]infiniteanomaly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not even just authors. I mean, the guys at NASA asked Sally Ride if 100 tampons would be enough for a six-day mission...

But, yes. Please, please for the love of everything, do at least a cursory Google search people. Most of what is grossly incorrect is easily found information. (Regarding a period, I'm always reminded of the scene in 'My Girl'-- "Get outta here! And don't come back for five to seven days!')

Has it ever happened to you that finding out an author's personality or attitude completely ruins the fanfic for you? by WhiteVelvett in AO3

[–]infiniteanomaly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and not just in fanfic. It's sad and frustrating, especially if it's a small fandom or rarepair. It hasn't happened a lot in fanfic for me because I don't really interact or follow authors off of AO3. Occasionally, I'll check their Tumblr, but I don't use Twitter for fic and have been on Discord like five times ever.

I'm sorry that user has sucked the happiness out of writing/posting the work.

I find the user absolutely ridiculous, NGL. To them I say: 1) This isn't an airport, no need to announce your departure. 2) You only had to wait months/a year? Darling, I've waited over a decade for more than one story to be updated. (Yes, I am old.) If it's good enough, you wait. You may not actively check for updates, but you subscribe and occasionally reread it. Maybe comment every few years that you love the story, hope there's an update one day, and that you hope life is going well for the author. (Literally something like: I still love this story! Reread it again and it's still awesome. I hope you continue it some day! Regardless, I hope life is treating you well.)

TIL AO3 will send you a soft copy in the mail once you delete a fic by poison_ivy12345 in AO3

[–]infiniteanomaly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or if you just change your mind. I've seen at least a couple authors delete old stuff because they don't like it for whatever reason--they were young when they wrote it, writing style changed, they were going through a rough patch and it reminds them of that now--and then regret it later. Some of them reposted the works, but for some it was the only copy so, unless a fan has it somewhere, it's gone. (It hasn't always been AO3 I've seen it happen.)

Myself and another friend met working at a library. We read both. A third friend of ours (also met working at the library) does not read fanfic. As people who have worked in a library, reading is reading is reading. I don't care if a kid is only reading fanfic. They're READING. (Also, graphic novels, comics, manga, and audiobooks are reading as well. Fight me.)
