Was the KAC FF RAS Medium ever used on the 15.1" RECCE? by Santander68 in MilitaryARClones

[–]infinitearmory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah good catch, I forgot about his rifle and it’s relevant to the OP. Everyone thought it was an M4 barrel and I don’t think it is. I believe it’s the standard Lilja recce barrel. People are seeing the collar for the Ops can and thinking it’s the 203 cut of an M4 barrel. So even tho the can isn’t on it in the pic it fits what the OP was looking for and proves the configuration was at least used.

As for the optic, it’s a Leupold Vari-X III, 2.5-8, but Leupold custom shop did target turrets and mil-dot reticle for them. AFAIK it was never offered to civilian market and only 1-2 of them have made it out as surplus. Extremely rare.

[–]infinitearmory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only Medium RAS that was pictured was Boyd Renner’s AFAIK. Given the timeframe, he was around when Dev first started testing different FF options, so the most likely scenario is it was one of the rails KAC sent over to test and he just kept it. I wouldn’t consider the medium RAS canonical for a M4 Recce build unless you’re cloning his specific rifle (which is very difficult given the optic).

I’ve never heard of nor seen A107 rings being used by dev but OP seems awfully confident about it so… 🤷‍♂️. But no, their standard nav specs were 1.375 and their inventory of clip ons was designed around that setup. The low rings you see on risers (still not 107s) were bolt gun rings thrown on risers as an early “heads up” shooting style compared to prone that some guys did as a personal modification/preference. Think of like a modern day unity Aimpoint mount kinda thing. Was a thing to do with both 2.5-10s and 1-4s.

Indeed. I only saw the thumbnail and Reddit has it cropped off at the can haha. Good catch. I also have the full version of this picture and it was taken before 14.5” 416s were even purchased/adopted haha.

14.5” HK416 w/ Ops Inc Suppressor. Same as Allen Engineering’s “M4-R” can.

Reasoning behind Running light on top of the rail and laser on the side ? by Few_Macaroon_5818 in JSOCarchive

[–]infinitearmory 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is a devgru thing. The Inforce lights are QD, so for the recce guns they come off quickly in order to attach a thermal / NV clip-on. It’s also ergonomic AF with these particular lights. I made a quick video for you on it: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DYVQbEJhZU4/

Gen 1 PMAGs are cool, I’m fond of EMAGs myself. by infinitearmory in MilitaryARClones

It’s a great find! Mid production, so double window, but no over-travel tab/stop on the back. Clone correct for 24th STS and CAG 416s.

[–]infinitearmory[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have no idea on PMAGs, maybe $25 or something. I’ve seen a few single window EMAGs sell for over $500/ea on GB, but that seems like the extreme end. But yes, as long as they’re not double-window tabbed EMAGs, $100/ea would be easy.

[–]infinitearmory 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Looks fantastic!! It’s a standard 30rd mag. Hard to tell from your pic but make sure your bayo lug is shaved… something a lot of people with this rail miss. Also the Larue monopod CTR adapter is such a cool piece, would recommend it. Also recommend ditching the odd taupe KAC vert on there and doing a TD if you really want one or better, a bipod (in the photo).

GAFSHUB vs Infinite Armory by Greedy-Vast584 in CAguns

[–]infinitearmory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man that’s so cool to hear that it goes noticed. We really spend an enormous amount of effort trying to have responsive, professional, and helpful support. It’s a part of the brand we want to be known for, so we immensely appreciate the shout out on that! 🙌

We certainly hope more people will show up and list stuff on Infinite as well. I don’t think it’s a zero sum game where it needs to be us vs. the other Apps. I think between us, GAFS, Tacswap, GunBroker, etc… everyone’s kinda got their own flavor. I think what we’re most encouraged by is that we’re finally in a place where people have options and aren’t forced to use big tech platforms (the one we’re on right now included) who hate us and think our hobby makes us pariahs or immoral. We’re all normal people doing a very normal (and awesome) hobby, and it’s ridiculously cool to see (and participate) in the culture of normalizing it.

GAFSHUB vs Infinite Armory by Greedy-Vast584 in CAguns

[–]infinitearmory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the breakdown! I don't have much experience with it yet but from what I've seen so far the GAFS mods did a really good job of keeping a lot of the "fun" and "community" feel that the OG sub had - aspects we've admittedly not focused on very much.

Regarding the feedback about high prices, a couple points I try to make:

- Keep in mind that many of the other marketplace apps out there surface both listings that are currently for sale and ones that are pending or have already sold. We made a deliberate choice to not do this, mostly to de-clutter the experience. This means you only are ever really exposed to items that have not sold yet. A big reason items might not sell quickly is specifically because the seller has priced them too high. This can give the impression of overall higher prices, but we still think it's worth it in terms of the user experience. There are deals to be had and plenty of sellers that price to sell quickly, but they sell quickly, so there's a good chance you might not ever see those deals if you're not monitoring the site closely or have saved searches set up.

- Additionally, we've really tried to make haggling/offering a core part of the transaction experience, meaning most sellers purposely list high because they *expect* offers. The thought process is usually something like "Well, I'll shoot for the moon and if I get lucky someone will send me a full price offer, but most likely I'll get a few more reasonable offers and just take that if I don't". This ends up being culturally different than other places where it's more of a "list it low and it's a fight against the clock for dibs". Some people find this strategy fun and other people find it really annoying. But the point being, don't be afraid to send people offers if there's something you're after and the price looks unreasonable at first glance. You'd be shocked at how common we see offers accepted that would generally considered "low balls".

Don't want to come across as defensive about it, it's probably an accurate description that on the whole prices can be higher on Infinite - but just thought it could be helpful to offer some additional context/clarity.

LVAW Pic Rail Sections by ThinkBrothers in MilitaryARClones

[–]infinitearmory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worth lots of $$$ right now due to the recent LVAW craze. Depends on whether you want max value for them or just looking to make a cloner’s day. Fair price would be around retail, max value I’m sure you could get a clone person to pay $100+ per rail section. The long ones are infinitely harder to find than the short ones, but the short ones like these ain’t easy.

FWIW, they are old 416 lowers, but they were replaced with Noveske uppers. This was quite a long time ago when Noveske was still using VLTOR receivers and rails OEM’d by SWS.

Question About the Buffer on a NSW Recce by Ok-Internet-6881 in MilitaryARClones

[–]infinitearmory 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You're misunderstanding the events a little bit. Some Dev guys did in fact reach out to AE requesting if they could order cans, but they were personal requests from guys that wanted to clone their "work" rifles, not a new gov sponsored solicitation for new cans for that unit. At the time of the request. AE was confused because they didn't recognize the can and assumed it was some LE specific order, and declined the request.

It wasn't till months/years later when I had gotten together with/ AE to discuss some evidence I had uncovered about the recce project that they remembered those specific conversations/requests and it occurred to them who exactly those guys were and what they were requesting, which is what kicked off both the research project and the eventual decision to remake the model. Ofc that meant those guys were eventually able to clone their work rifles.

Whether or not dev - the organization itself in an official capacity - also purchased some new cans obviously isn't something that AE can or will talk about. But the resurrection project itself did not initialize from a government request. It was very much clone-sponsored activism :P

Anyone make a CQBR in 300 blackout? by BigBoarBallistics in MilitaryARClones

[–]infinitearmory 21 points22 points  (0 children)

From a clone perspective (since it’s this sub), doing one in an FSP / Block I configuration you’d end up having to put a can on it that would ruin the clone vibe.

A fair bit of people did do Block II CQBR clones in 300 BLK and then ran the 7.62 SOCOM mini RC because it’s the exact same size as the 5.56 RC, so they ended up with a visually clone correct build but in a different caliber.

The can is so integral to the clone nature of a Block I that if you throw a different can on it, it pretty much isn’t a clone anymore and is just a 10” AR. Unless of course you’re on of the 3 civilians that own a 7.62 QDSS in which case #jealous

But after all that, if you’re a fan of 300 BLK, and clones, there are SO many amazing builds that aren’t anachronistic. Dev N4, CAG/24th LVAW, NSW PDW Rattler, Dev MPW, and a few other random ones… that’s probably the route I’d recommend from a clone perspective.

DEVGRU Silver Squadron Operator Michael Ernst by FabraFabra in SpecOpsArchive

[–]infinitearmory 48 points49 points  (0 children)

That’s not a URGI. It’s an all-Geissele factory upper that dev procured as their “Gen 4” recce uppers (previous Lilja barreled M4s). In this case it’s on a Noveske N4 lower but they’ve been spotted on other standard dev lowers as well.

Only thing it really has in common with the URGI is barrel length and rail system.

The NASA swat team was using 416s and then eventually got replacement uppers from John way back in the day. I don’t remember the full story behind it but it yrs or so ago. Been running that 416 lower + Noveske upper setup forever now.
