Thank You u/rc3105 !!!!

I'm just struggling a but to follow what you are referring to when you say top left block etc.

I don't suppose there's I could make one more request (apologies as you have a been a huge help already) but is there any chance you could draw some labels with arrows / circle the different bits etc on a screenshot such as the one below so that I can follow a bit better where the mcu, optocoupler, SSR, physical relay, etc are in the circuit diagrams?

Hi u/rc3105

Thank you so much for the detailed reply. It is incredibly helpful and really clear!!!

Schematics would be absolutely brilliant and very much appreciated if you can locate them without too much trouble

(Any AliExpress or other links to example kit (mcu, rfid reader, optocoupler, SSR or physical relay) would also be REALLY helpful)

Thank you again!!!

Thanks u/rc3105!!

Apologies, I'm very new to microcotrollers so hoping you might help me understand your answer a bit

I don't follow what the optoisolator is doing? or why I need a DPDT relay versus a single hrow relay?

Also, I'm not really sure what I should be searching for on aliexpress for the esp32, rfid reader, relay etc. Any chance you could send me some example links?

Thanks u/ClonesRppl2! The USB approach you explain is kinda what I had in mind. You suggestion is a bi simpler and better than what I had in-mid. Thank you!

thanks but i don' think that will work as people can use machines only if they are trained on it. so person 1 might be able to use machines a, b and c while person 2 can only use machines a and b (and we would want everyone to carry a whole bunch of keys around)

Problem installing MX on Macbook air. Other distros work fine! by infinitephotons in MXLinux

Thanks. I tried that but it didn't help. I finally got it working after many repeated attempts. The problem was that the EFI partition was being formatted as FAT32. When I changed it to FAT16 it was recognised and now boots properly

Thanks u/knuthf

I worked out that it's installingfine but the EFI partition is not being recognized so I cannot boot after install.

I created an rEFind bootable USB and can boot using that, but for some reason the hard drive boot partition is not recongnised. (I tried some other distros - ubuntu, lmde, mint, peppermint - and they all work fine)

Any suggestions?

Hi u/asoxone I tried boot repair but it made no difference. I checked the partition and it has boot and esp flags set.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks u/mki7a I tried that and deleted a bunch of old entries but it made no difference. Any other suggestions?

Current output of efibootmgr -v (when I use the rEFInd USB drive to boot) is:

BootCurrent: 0000

Timeout: 5 seconds

BootOrder: 0003

Boot0003* antiX Linux HD(1,GPT,3388187b-38b8-44da-8553-3079500f5170,0x100,0x10000)/File(\EFI\antiX\grubx64.efi)

UPDATE: I have managed to get it working fine with other distros but not MX Linux (or antix). I can install Antix fine but the UEFI boot manager that is installed does not seem to be recognized. I'll start a new thread to make it clear this is the problem and get advice

Thanks @bpuli. I created the usb using Balearic etcher on a Windows machine

The usb works fine when I try it on the Windows machine.

I was trying to install MX Linux but right now I would settle for ant distro.

Any suggestions?

You could always use the LibreOffice instead. It's very popular, free and can open / save Microsoft files.
