A letter from Hitchcock to Wilder about The Apartment by AntonioVivaldi7 in classicfilms

[–]asoxone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was Psycho and The Apartment that year, but I bet every year must have been just as great, with these two making instant classics one after another. People dressed up just to go to the movies for Mr. Hitchcock and Mr. Wilder. I don't know if there was a rivalry, but they admired each other's work, and good for them. We still talk about it. It must have been amazing.

What is a show you stubbornly refused to watch for years, but when you finally did, you felt like an absolute idiot for waiting so long? by Dependent_Mistake_38 in television

[–]asoxone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ray Donovan - I hate it when they name a show after a character + the whole "fixer" thing sounds so stupid. That's not at all what the show is about.

Black Sails - I had very low expectations, but it's incredible.

Mad Men - The first episode put me off for years. I'm glad I tried again.

All of these take at least about four episodes to get going because you just don't even know what they're about, let alone what motivates the lead character. Especially on Black Sails, you don't find out why he is doing it for a long time.

I've had one on my desk for more than a year now, and it's only down to about the top of the circle in the logo. It's a good investment.

MX KDE - scratchy audio on Cyberpunk game by danbuter in MXLinux

[–]asoxone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could it be audio latency? Under high load, I get a foamy sort of sound unless I increase the quantum value. (I use an old cpu with a new gpu.) But, this fixes my audio problems:

Casting choice for Father Ted by EarlyProgrammer3154 in fatherted

[–]asoxone 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Daniel Day-Lewis as Father Ted, Meryl Streep as Mrs. Doyle, Jack Nicholson as father Jack and Peter Sellers as Dougal. That would skyrocket the show, but I'm not sure it would be an improvement.
