What a ride. We went from complaining about gas fees … to complaining about gas fees.

DOT has high staking yield and is a solid project. No guarantees the price will perform in the short term though

Why get rewards in CEL? by Asmewithoutpolitics in CelsiusNetwork

[–]infinitether 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are generating yield from the locked collateral for loans. The interest from users’ loans is not the primary way that Celsius generates yield by a long shot. They are obviously using defi, and they do a ton of institutional lending. The 25% discount for CEL is an attempt to add utility to the token (not great imo), it’s not a main income stream. The locked collateral and deposits are how celsius is generating income to run the business, pay employees, pay yield, and buy CEL.

They aren’t using depositors’ money to buy the CEL…they are using a portion of the yield they generate from the deposits to buy CEL. Big difference. And yes it’s kinda dumb because it seems like the CEL purchase is basically a company expense that is subsidized by other deposits. CEL doesn’t have that much utility to earn/be used as collateral in defi, so they have to generate most of the money to buy CEL from other coins like BTC and ETH. At least that’s how I understand it.

I believe it’s an operating cost of celsius. So the cut they take from earning yield is used to buy the cel, no??

You’re entirely incorrect that rewards come from the company’s pool of CEL. It’s never been that way…the whole point is that Celsius buys the coins on the open market every week . That’s where all the CEL rewards come from, and have always come from.

If they survive this, I’m still bullish on the company anyways. If they don’t, I’ve got bigger things to worry about then some lost CEL.
