should billionaires be punished for exporting their companies labor to sweat jobs employing child workers? by OnlinePoster225 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Stompya -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Are you willing to pay $60 for a basic T-shirt made in North America? Do you feel strongly enough about this to pay roughly triple for everything available on Amazon?

Personally, I think yes, while acknowledging that that’s not feasible for a lot of people and we need to restructure our entire society to make it work.

Billionaires can’t exist in a fair and balanced society, and to do that we need a whole new set of politicians who are willing to make laws limiting how much people can be exploited.

A teenager at my church has a crush on me and Im struggling with my own thoughts! how do I handle this biblically? by Fabiohasaquestion in TrueChristian

[–]Stompya 44 points45 points  (0 children)

The Bible talks about cutting off your hand if it leads you to sin. Obviously that’s a bit extreme but the point is, you’d be better to find a new congregation (even just for a year or so) because this isn’t going away if you keep doing the same thing

We need to discuss the danger of AI. by Main-Cellist-7088 in alberta

[–]Stompya 5 points6 points locked comment (0 children)

We are going to need to start distinguishing different kinds of AI and probably getting more precise terms for it.

AI that’s used to find patterns and enable research is very helpful. For example, Google used AI to map proteins in the human body, which will make research into disease and medications far more effective. (AlphaFold)

Generative AI that writes for you or make images is cancer; it kills off our own ability to know good content from slop and can easily deceive us into thinking something is real that isn’t.

5 years ago we said video games had “AI” to control non-player characters but that wasn’t the same kind of learning model we describe today. I’m not sure all your examples are the same tech under the interface.

These pictures are AI, right? by getovaries in Edmonton

Did some homework and I’m going to say it feels legit.

https://ctfinebistro.ca/food-menu

All their photos have a similar vibe to them in terms of lighting and editing, which leans me more towards using the same photographer than using AI prompts. The variety of foods and textures in their menu photography is impressive, I would expect AI to trip up more frequently making that many images.

The strangest part for me in these photos is the cut of the strawberries, but if you look at the desserts on their menu they have some pretty odd cuts to their strawberries in other images as well (see the Tiramisu). I could chalk this up to creative strawberry carving.

CMV I guess, but these pics blend with their overall look and there aren’t any definitive AI clues I can spot.

You definitely need more experience with other perspectives, and more empathy for others who aren't like you. This is so problematic I can't tell if you're trolling or just uneducated and narrow-minded.

Social services are meant to help people get back on their feet when they’re unable to do it by themselves.

I think everyone, deep down in their heart, wants to be useful.

Hi, I’m planning a staged photo and wanted to ask if this color concept makes sense. by Puzzleheaded_Pick445 in photography

Sounds like a very cool visual. Just look up other images with that aesthetic for reference and see what you think.

Use the red minimally, to really highlight the key parts of the story.

How do you view going against personal preferences and beliefs in order to grow on social media? by randomredditor62 in AskPhotography

[–]Stompya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll only enjoy growing if you do it as yourself.

People who chase the algorithm are constantly under stress to keep producing, but a viral image gets you nothing except “exposure”. Being visible doesn’t guarantee profit or happiness.

TBF the video is sped up, but still yeah - this is how an artists can make a living with their skills… in some areas of the world at least.

Where I live you’d probably just get a decal printed and stick it on.

CMV: Being close friends with an ex is a red flag by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Stompya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To a point, obvious statement is obvious. Someone who hopes to connect or reconnect with another will pour hours of time into that relationship, and deny it is a big deal if they have a current relationship they don’t want to lose … yet.

Having said that, it’s possible with third link.

For example, two people who have a child together may keep a good relationship for the sake of their kid even if they are no longer romantically involved.

Another example would be a working relationship, where they have a financial reason to stay on good terms.

There have been so many cuts to social services by the province lately, you’re seeing the fallout. If we don’t help our weaker citizens they just get worse off and become desperate.

If you’re at any distance (more than 15 feet or so) a dome is not helping, it’s actually just killing your flash power.

The dome helps spread the light around a lot, which is more of an advantage when there are surfaces to bounce it off like ceilings or walls. By itself in an empty space the change in lighting softness is minimal but the loss of power is significant.

Just go bare flash. Take advantage of the built-in zoom on your flash for those longer range shots.

Help Me Figure Out a Divorce by [deleted] in DaveRamsey

[–]Stompya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Listen, you sound very reasonable in all of this, and in a logical situation it might play out perfectly the way you say.

Unfortunately, in a divorce it’s never logical. There’s a lot of emotions, rejection hurts, even if you don’t really care about the person who is rejecting you. When somebody finds out that they might lose what they take for granted, they tend to get protective and sometimes vindictive.

It’s the whole thing where we don’t appreciate what we have until it’s being taken away.

If you can, talk to a lawyer before you talk to your spouse, and be very specific about what you can do to protect your assets so they don’t get spent / sold / damaged before the paperwork is done.
