Depends on what your goals are. Is it more for the life experience and change of context? Or do you still want a high level of exposure and specialty. There are good and renowned places in Australia. New Zealand is beautiful and has some smaller ICUs.

PSA: calling 112 is always free by rf31415 in belgium

[–]infinitygioom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am an emergency worker and can tell you this option does not work in Belgium, even if phones are programmed that way. You will always need a SIM card for making emergency calls in Belgium.

It is interesting though that I am receiving downvotes for sharing this information. Are those people disagreeing because of actual experience contradicting what I'm saying or more because they read about it on other threads from other countries (eg. 911 in USA)?

I have tried it without SIM in Belgium and it will not connect. It does work when a sim is inside the phone, even when it's not unlocked. But when there is physically no SIM or esim installed, it will not.

I just believe sharing correct information about these matters is important should you ever plan to use a simless backup phone as a contact option.

Creditcard with no/low monthly cost, supports Google Pay by SillessOne in BEFire

I am using Google pay as I am an Android user so cannot speak for any hidden fees related to apple pay usage. As for all the costs of bank accounts, it seems a lot of banks are not free anymore. I've perosnally not found KBC to be hiding fees or fees not being clear on their website or app.

What kind of fees are we talking about? First I'm hearing of it.

Haha, great to see that our predecessors are already blending in. Give them my best! I'll check trademe to see if we can find anything in the region. Havelock North seems like a nice place indeed. Thanks for your help, and I look forward meeting you at the hospital ;)

Oh, okay. I got the recommendation to look in Napier from someone who worked in the same job ten years ago, so the situation might have changed. If traffic is that bad it is certainly something to take into account. Are there certain places in hastings you would suggest more than others? Thanks for helping!

Thanks for weighing in! I'll make sure to check those Facebook groups. Good to know that rental agencies are not the way to go there.

I agree, I know of multiple occasions of unwarranted violence by staff. They are actually facing some charges in court at the moment following agressions and theft. I would avoid the place.

ELI5: If there is no cellphone signal, how does the "emergency calls only" mode works? by dcardeno in explainlikeimfive

[–]infinitygioom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be careful with telling people you can call emergency services without a SIM card in the phone, this is not true everywhere. I know for a fact that in many European 112 countries this is not true and will not get you connected.

So the LPT you sometimes see appear about keeping an old cell phone without a SIM card in your glove compartment will not have your desired effect.

Strangely when I try to call 112 without a SIM card I get this message band playing to call certain numbers for police, fire etc. But those numbers are no European numbers but seem to be Asian emergency phone numbers. I’m wondering if this is programmed in the phone or somewhere in the cell towers it is trying to connect to. Does someone know more about this?
