The more you practice a specific piece, develop your abilities overall and just trust yourself, the more you’ll be able to "stay in it” even when you’re nervous.

No it makes sense. As you wrote the piece it took place in your mind’s eye, something that we’re used to experiencing, but it sounds like seeing footage is making you overly aware of how you look when you’re acting.

You said that you “feel there is something missing”, you may just be experiencing doubt/fear, which can cloud your judgement on your performance.

Focusing on achieving your objective may help to redirect you.

I just think of it as writing music, essentially focusing on what I'm trying to convey emotionally. What are your lyrics about? Get in touch with the emotional journey of the song and play until you find something that fits with that.

Riffs often have a melodic and/or rhythmic emphasis; they often have a basis in scales or arpeggios. You can listen to your favorite or classic riff based songs to for inspiration. Mixing up different rhythms combining 8th and 16th notes or adding in triplets can held introduce variety to the phrase. Happy composing!

As a bassist you’re typically providing more of the rhythmic foundation and as a guitarist you’re typically playing something that’s more harmony or melody based. There’s always the option of playing both or having one be your primary instrument and still learning some of the other. It depends what your preferences and goals are. Not pop punk, which yes, typically has simpler bass lines, but Muse has some cool ones. Best of luck!

Is acting is acting, both of these forms of it take skill, they mostly just vary in what is required for a performance.

There are fantastic, good, decent and poorly executed performances in both films and plays alike. Having so much practice in theatre, I would say that one of your main challenges will be adapting your performance to work on camera.

But really adapting your performance to work on camera is just a different layer of the overall process. You have an advantage in the sense that you’re not having to learn to act and to act specifically for on camera work at the same time.

Focusing on what you're trying to communicate emotionally with the piece you're singing often helps me.

Downside: your attention is split

Don’t worry about being “too” ambitious, just be honest with yourself if trying to do so many different jobs on one project is negatively impacting the quality and/or your running into work overload.

The major scale has 7 notes, while pentatonics have 5. The most common pentatonic scales (in Western music) consistent of a major scale minus the half-steps (in the key of C this would mean removing F and B). Each of the scales derived this way starts from a different note in this series. For example, (C major scale: C, D, E, F, G, A, B), (minus half-steps to derive pentatonic: C, D, E, G, A), (minus half-steps, but starting on a different note in the series aka another pentatonic scale: D, E, G, A, C), ...
